3 OUR MISSION Lead the transformation of the built environment to create buildingsand communities that are environmentally responsible, profitable and healthy places to live, work and play.

4 WHO ARE WE? 1. A non profit organisation. 2. Nearly 600 members in Québec. 3. Members are mainly professionals in the building industry including architects, engineers, designers, general contractors, manufacturers, financial institutions, trades, municipalities, government and corporate end users, etc. 4. About 20% of the members are EGB s or Emerging Green Builders. They represent the students and young professionals. 5. One of 8 Chapters of the CaGBC which is the national organisation. 6. We promote LEED programs, Green UP, Living Building Challenge and sustainable construction in Québec with workshops, seminars, conferences and continuing education.

10 BUT Standards and Codes are interesting tools but they are not mandatory. Our legal framework in construction and energy efficiency is outdated and need an in depth revision.

12 Considering the cost of energy Incentives to invest in Energy Efficiency Measures With the existing low cost of energy (electricity and gaz) in Qc, building owners and managers have difficulties investing in existing buildings. The return on investment is too long. To encorage building owners as well as institutions to implement energy efficiency measures:

13 Governments and Energy Providers Programs Quebec Natural lresources: BEIE Diverse programs to reduce and eleminate the use of oil products in buildings, g, to encoragethe use of biomass or other green technologies, to implement energy efficiency measures in Buildings, encorage replacement of CVC equipments, etc Those programs reimburse part of the costs associated with work being done to improve the energy performance ot buildings.

14 Hydro Quebec Programme Bâtiments (administered by ÉnerCible) This program aim at encouraging efforts to improve energy efficiencies i i in buildings: thermal envelope, lighting, ventilation and control equipment are the main measures eligible. New and existing building can qualify. Recommisioning of Mechanical Systems This program provide financial support to 5 phases of execution of a project: planning, investigation, implementation, transfert and follow up, annual report and technical support

17 CONCLUSION What can be done: Increase sensitazation of buildings owners and mangers to the importance of energy efficiency to improve operationcosts Implementation of continuous maintenance and monitoring programs Periodic recommissioning mandatory for institutional buildings Modernize legal and regulatory framework in order to implement green building principles into the day to day obligations of the industry.
