Copyright Discernity, LLC 2008 Americans Loving Their HDTV, Study Finds The United States is leading the high definition pay-tv market with more than six million homes receiving HD content as of 2007.* More than six million more homes are expected to jump on board by the end of In the U.S., pay-tv operators are increasingly using high-def content as a way to distinguish themselves from the competition, SNL Kagan said. "As competition between cable, satellite and IPTV intensifies, HD programming becomes increasingly important," said SNL Kagan senior analyst Ben Reneker. "At this point, operators are looking for any possible means to get an edge on the competition. In addition to providing a new revenue stream, a strong HDTV lineup offers a powerful bragging right." The comments include strong evidence that so-called "professional" installers are installing satellite dishes outside the parameters of the FCC Order, putting residents and others in serious danger, damaging apartment properties and creating tremendous liability for apartment owners. Despite these purported safeguards, however, NMHC/ASHA/NAA submitted a photo exhibit to the FCC documenting that many apartment residents are ignoring the restrictions, and that illegal and unsafe installations done by so-called "professionals" are widespread, many of which also violate local fire or safety codes...
