14 Asbestos occurs naturally in certain geologic settings in Washington but is most common in the ultrabasic/ultramafic rocks shown in the map below. There have been no commercial deposits or asbestos mines in Washington but there are many occurrences. In addition to the location of the ultramafic formations, the map shows other known occurrences of asbestos in Washington State. Note: There is much work to be done on this topic and further study is necessary to understand naturally occurring asbestos in Washington.

20 1973 EPA bans spray-applied surfacing asbestos-containing material for fireproofing/insulating purposes.

21 1975 EPA bans installation of asbestos pipe insulation and asbestos block insulation on facility components, such as boilers and hot water tanks, if the materials are either preformed and friable or wet-applied and friable after drying. Friable: Can be crumbled, pulverized or reduced to powder by the pressure of an ordinary human hand.

22 1977 The Consumer Product Safety Commission banned the use of asbestos in artificial fireplace embers and wall patching compounds.

24 1989 EPA issued a final rule under Section 6 of Toxic Substances Control Act, (TSCA) banning most asbestos-containing products.

25 1991 The 1989 TSCA rule was vacated and remanded by the 5 th Circuit Court of Appeals. As a result, most of the original ban on the manufacture, importation, processing, or distribution in commerce for the majority of the asbestoscontaining products originally covered in the 1989 rule was overturned.

37 If your home was built before 1978, there is a good chance it has lead-based paint. In 1978, the federal government banned consumer uses of lead-containing paint, but some states banned it even earlier. Lead from paint, including lead-contaminated dust, is one of the most common causes of lead poisoning.

38 This recall involves Captain Cutlass Pirate Pistol toys with a brown plastic grip, a black metallic stock and barrel, and a muzzle with an orange cap. The doublebarreled toy pistol has one trigger and two hammers. A skull and crossbones motif is engraved on the grip.
