8 Types of asbestos materials Friable Any material containing more than 1% asbestos that, when dry, can be crumbled, pulverized or reduced to powder by hand pressure Non friable Any material containing >1% asbestos that, when dry, cannot be crumbled, pulverized, or reduced to powder by hand pressure (includes Category I and II ACM)

31 Accepting ACM waste PBR Demo Cannot accept ACM! Demo LDF Before accepting ACM Demo LDF must have an MPCA-approved ISWMP stating how asbestos will be handled/managed

32 Before taking ACM waste landfill must... Be approved by MPCA Receive prior notification from the waste generator (time to prepare) Prepare area; create a sufficient depression near toe of working face Have enough cover ready 6 minimum over ACM

33 When ACM waste arrives you must... Ensure containers are marked Ensure vehicle is marked Ensure containers are undamaged before burial Minimize handling

34 When placing ACM waste you must... 1 Dump into prepared area 2 Immediately cover with 6 of non-acm 3 Compact AFTER covering

35 After you bury ACM Waste you must accurately... 1 Locate/record quantity & vertical/horizontal location field copy phase plan 2 Transfer info to official plan ASAP 3 Record on final contour plan (and property plat after closure)

36 When disposing of ACM waste you must... Certify shipment properly described in shipment records Report discrepancies to MPCA

37 When disposing of ACM waste you must keep records! 1 Keep shipment records on site for 2 years 2 Keep mapped records of the location, depth and quantity of ACM until closure

38 If you must intentionally disturb or excavate areas containing ACWM/RACM Notify the MPCA 45 days prior to excavating or otherwise disturbing in writing, including.. Schedule for starting and completion Reason for disturbance Location of any temporary storage and final disposal site And
