1 Sidewinder G 2 Security Appliance Version 6.1 Network Interface Upgrade About this document Thank you for ordering the quad port UTP (Unshielded Twisted Pair) PCI X Ethernet controller hardware component upgrade. This document provides information on adding the 4 port network interface card (NIC) to your Sidewinder G 2 Security Appliance on models 310, 315, 410, 415, 510, 515, 1100, 1150, 2150, or Before beginning the hardware upgrade, note the following restrictions: Š If models 310, 315, 410, 415, 510, 515, 1100, and 1150 have the SSL Accelerator upgrade installed, they will not accommodate the Network Interface upgrade. Š If the model 2150 has the SSL Accelerator or Tape Drive upgrade installed, it will not accommodate the Network Interface upgrade. Š If the model 4150 has the SSL Accelerator upgrade installed, you can only install 1 or 2 Network Interface upgrades. If the SSL Accelerator upgrade is not installed, you may install up to 3 Network Interface upgrades A Network Interface Upgrade 1

Denotes the second network interface upgrade. May not be present on all systems. 12. Press Esc and select Save changes and exit. 13. Boot the system. 14. Because the interfaces may have renumbered during the reboot, verify your cabling and connectivity by doing the following: a. Log into the system using the keyboard and monitor, then switch domains by entering the following command: srole b. Enter cf interface q to get the interface s information (you can also use the ifconfig -a command). Write down the interface name (for example, em0), IP address, and netmask for each interface. Also note if the interfaces are enabled. Note: If an interface is not enabled, then there may not be a cable in the corresponding port, the cable may not work, or the device at the other end may not work. Follow standard troubleshooting techniques to resolve the problem. c. Verify that each cable allows connection to the machine that matches its intended subnet and netmask. Once everything is cabled correctly, ping the IP address of each neighboring machine. If you receive a response, your interface configuration and cabling is correct. 6 Network Interface Upgrade A
7 d. If you do not receive a response and you have verified the other factors listed above, then your interfaces and your cables are not properly matched. Swap the cables until each port connects to the expected network. 15. Disconnect the monitor and keyboard. Use the Admin Console for future administration. Important: If you add more network cards and reboot, the em driver assignments will change. Always complete step 14 before reconnecting the Admin Console to your Sidewinder G 2 system. 16. Using the Admin Console, select Firewall Administration -> Interface Configuration and verify that the new em drivers appear in the Interfaces list. The window should be similar to Figure 4. Figure 4. Interface Configuration window with an active network interface upgrade 17. As needed, select Firewall Administration -> Burb Configuration and assign burb names to the new interfaces. If you need more information, see the online help. You are now ready to being using your new network interface card A Network Interface Upgrade 7
