Although he was addressing these differences from a personal relationship point of view, the insights he provides can apply to professional relationships as well. In the corporate world, organizational politics and the development of influencing skills is an important component of leadership and is vital for a woman s career advancement. The ability to effectively influence your organization, your peers, and your management, starts with solid and productive work relationships. For a female in a male dominated industry, it is essential to understand how men approach issues and build support for their ideas. By gaining this understanding, you will be better able to approach your male counterparts to influence and build support for your own ideas. We aren t going to tell women to speak up, don t take it personally, use strong words to describe themselves, don t be afraid to take a risk. NERC develops and enforces Reliability Standards, annually assesses seasonal and long-term reliability, monitors the bulk power system through system awareness and events analysis, and operates the Electric Sector Information Sharing and Analysis Center. This session will take a look at the various roles and responsibilities of NERC as it works with owners, operators and users to identify and address risks to reliability, through standards, assessments, alerts and guidelines. - Janet Sena, Senior Vice President and Director of Policy and External Affairs, NERC Cybersecurity as an Organizational Culture Energy companies have traditionally evolved with silos that have distinct sets of objectives, vocabularies, and professional cultures. But the number of women serving on these boards has barely budged in the past five years. Women still hold less than 20% of the board seats in the Fortune 500 companies and fewer than 14% of the seats among the Russell 3000 companies. Even worse news for us, in industry-by-industry comparisons, the energy industry comes in last with a six-year average of only 10.9% women board members.
