3 Papirbredden Drammen Knowledge Park Papirbredden Drammen Knowledge Park was officially opened on March 2, At Papirbredden, you will find a diversity of organisations, project work groups, private companies and public institutions, all of them focusing on education, knowledge-based innovation and development.

4 From Industry to Innovation By the riverside, on the site of one of the old paper mills, you will find Papirbredden, a modern construction in steel and glass, well integrated with the old, partially refurbished factory buildings. Traditional industry has been replaced by new knowledge-based institutions and businesses, as well as cultural arenas and a new residential area. The name Papirbredden refers to both the industrial production of paper and writing a paper for research purposes (Norwegian: papir). The name also refers to the location at the river bank and the diversity of institutions (Norwegian: bredde). Papirbredden Drammen Knowledge Park marks the transition from industry to innovation, thus uniting the past with the present for the future.

5 Drammen: City Development that Inspires NORWAY Oslo Drammen SWEDEN DENMARK FINLAND The city of Drammen (pop ) is located 47 km south-west of Oslo, the capital of Norway. The city centre lies between low hills on the banks of the river Drammenselva where it meets the Drammensfjord. During the last twenty years, Drammen has continuously initiated city development projects to generate change and growth. The municipality of Drammen has invested heavily in renovating the city centre. The agreed overall vision of Drammen is of a green town distinguished by knowledge and innovation.

8 An Arena for Learning and Innovation At Papirbredden you will find a unique environment for learning and innovation. Papirbredden enables its inhabitants, students, private businesses, and local government institutions to take advantage of the combination of the intellectual, physical and economical resources of three university colleges, a library serving as a Learning Resources Centre, a variety of local research and development activities, and a number of knowledge-based companies.

9 Study at Papirbredden Papirbredden comprises three different university colleges offering various undergraduate degree programs, as well as postgraduate programs and diploma courses: Buskerud University College, BI Drammen Norwegian School of Management, and Telemark University College students in all enjoy first-class practice-rooms, auditoriums and labs. Student accommodation is available in walking distance to campus. Next door to campus, students can enjoy a variety of shows, theatre plays and concerts at Union Scene.

10 One Library from Childhood to Old Age The-state-of-the-art library at Papirbredden is the first joint library in Norway. Even if it looks like one library, Drammen Library is in fact the result of close co-operation between three different libraries: City Library of Drammen County Library of Buskerud, and Buskerud College Library. The idea behind this joint library is to provide a centre for life-long learning a single library to accompany a person throughout life, from childhood to old age. As a learning centre, Drammen Library also reflects the insight that learning is very much a social process.
