You can obtain this certification in conjunction with a UTS Master of Engineering Studies (C04097) majoring in Telecommunication Networks (MAJ03385) or in Telecommunication Engineering and Telecommunication Networks (MAJ03431). 3 The certification is ideal for those wanting to work with the most advanced carriergrade IP networks in the world, including the National Broadband Network company in Australia. The program is based on the Alcatel-Lucent 7750 Service Router family, which are a carrier-grade IP/MPLS router currently being deployed by most ISPs in the world. The 3½ hour NRS2 lab exam is conducted by Alcatel-Lucent and can be arranged through UTS at no additional cost Timetable Most subjects will be offered in block mode format in Each subject consists of three two-day blocks, run over a six week period during March, May, August and October. with the exception of Integrated Service Networks which will run the entire Spring semester. 5 COURSE INFORMATION C04097 Master of Engineering Studies Study load: 8 subjects (48 credit points) Duration: 1 yr full-time, 2 yrs part-time The Master of Engineering Studies (MEStud) is a flexible postgraduate course that will enable you to both deepen the technical knowledge gained in your first degree and expand your managerial and policy knowledge depending on the major chosen. The degree offers 19 majors to choose from, including a no specified major. Design and analysis techniques are studied, as well as particular technologies such as ISDN, ATM, SONET, SDH, HFC, ADSL, FTTC, FTTH, PON, GigE, MPLS and IP-VPNs, with the emphasis being on IP and the Next Generation Networks Communication Protocols Offered: Autumn Semester (March April session) Spring Semester (August to September session) Short Course 1 offered: in April and September You will gain an understanding of the theory of communication protocols, its application to popular protocols in particular TCP/IP and the analysis of performance and troubleshooting protocol issues in large carrier-grade networks. A significant laboratory component allows you to gain a deeper insight into the theory through the use of the wireshark packet sniffing application Interior Routing and High Availability Offered: Autumn Semester (May Session) You will examine the intricacies of standards-based routing protocols, such as open shortest path first (OSPF) and intermediate system-to-intermediate system (IS-IS). Analyse and compare these routing protocols, highlighting their valuable insights into the design decisions necessary for the successful implementation of these protocols in large-scale, service-oriented networking infrastructures for mobile, managed communication and triple play networks Multi-Protocol Label Switching Offered: Spring Semester (October session) You will learn multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) concepts, terminology, signalling protocols, design considerations such as resiliency, and the implementation, monitoring and basic troubleshooting of an MPLS network. Gain a good understanding of MPLS and the establishment of label switched paths (LSPs) using either label distribution protocol (LDP) or resource reservation protocol (RSVP) and resource reservation protocol with traffic engineering (RSVP-TE).
