1 BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN ENVIRONMENT AND NATURAL RESOURCES Envirnment and Natural Resurces (ENR) is a jint degree between the Faculty f Frestry and Envirnmental Management and the Faculty f Science. Deleted: stry/ General Infrmatin The Bachelr f Science in Envirnment and Natural Resurces (BScENR) prgram gives students degree ptins in the interdisciplinary fields f envirnmental studies and natural resurces. The prpsed degree ffers three areas f specializatin: Envirnmental Management, Water Resurces Management, and Wildlife Cnservatin. The specific educatinal gal f the new BScENR undergraduate prgram is t create tmrrw s prfessinal envirnmental and natural resurce managers, scientists, and advcates. The graduates will be trained t slve envirnmental and natural resurce prblems frm a hlistic, systems perspective incrprating their knwledge f land, water, air, plants, animals, and peple. Furthermre, they will have the skills required t characterize, analyze, predict change (real r ptential), and synthesize infrmatin int a cmprehensive slutins that respect multiple perspectives and demnstrate apprpriate stewardship f natural resurces. Prgram specific bjectives are utcmes-based, fcusing n a multidisciplinary respnse t current trends and needs in natural resurces and envirnmental stewardship. Managing natural resurces has becme significantly mre cmplex since Rachel Carsn and thers sparked the envirnmental awareness mvement f the 1960 s. Tday, the reciprcal relatinships between human scial systems and biphysical systems are f critical imprtance t practitiners, plicy-makers, and scientists. Answers t questins abut pattern and prcess in the eclgical and human wrlds are nw cnsidered t be fundamental cmpnents fr understanding relatinships amng eclgical, ecnmic, and scial systems. Mst human activity has ptential relevance t lcal, reginal, and glbal envirnments; likewise, envirnmental cnditins influence human decisins, actins, and well-being. As the knwledge f ur natural envirnment evlves and grws, there is a pressing need fr prfessinals wh can take a systems apprach t understanding resurce management prblems and wrk twards reslutin f envirnmental prblems frm bth biphysical and sciecnmic perspectives, based n a strng grasp f the underlying science. A minimum f 137 (Envirnmental Management majr), 138 (Water Resurces majr) r 142 (Wildlife Cnservatin majr) credit hurs is required fr the BScENR degree. 2. Students must cnsult with the Assistant Dean, r ther faculty as apprpriate, t receive advice n curse selectin. A full curse lad is nrmally 15 credit hurs per semester. Students may nly register fr 18 credit hurs r mre in a semester if they have a GPA f 3.0 r higher in the previus assessment perid and btain permissin frm the Assistant Dean. 3. Students will take curses in nrmal sequence; exceptins require a minimum B average in the preceding assessment perid, permissin f the Assistant Dean and the instructr f the curse. Curses in which a student is deficient must be taken nt later than the next academic year, except by special permissin f the Faculty. Deleted: >= 1 Deleted: >= 4. Transfer students will have the time limit prrated n the basis f advanced credit granted. 5. A minimum sessin grade pint average (g.p.a.) f 2.0 is required at the end f each year. Assessment is in May fllwing the cmpletin f the spring examinatin perid and includes the preceding intersessin, Summer Schl and Spring Extensins. 6. A student wh has been required t withdraw frm the prgram fr academic reasns nce, and wh reapplies fr admissin fllwing the withdrawal perid, may be re-admitted t the prgram. If re-admitted, the student will autmatically be n academic prbatin. Failure t meet the nrmal academic requirements at the next time f assessment will result in final dismissal frm the prgram. Further applicatins fr re-admissin will nt be cnsidered. 7. C grade minimum is required fr all prerequisite and cre curses used fr credit twards the BScENR degree. Curriculum Page 2 f 9

3 The cre prgram fcuses n a wide range f envirnmental studies with a blend f curses in basic, biphysical, scial, and management sciences. In additin, students select ne majr frm three areas f specializatin: Envirnmental Management, Water Resurces Management, and Wildlife Cnservatin. Opprtunity fr students t pursue an educatin f substantial persnal chice is prvided by elective curses that can be rganized in areas f cncentratin leading t minrs. Students may als elect t fllw minrs ffered by ther faculties, r they may take a general variety f curses that des nt lead t a minr. Twenty-fur credit hurs are required fr a minr in the BScENR prgram. Hnurs Prgram Students intending t take the Hnurs Prgram must declare their intent t the Assistant Dean prir t the end f the third year f their prgram and have a CGPA f at least 3.0. All students in the Hnurs Prgram are required t cmplete ENR4991 Hnurs Prject. T graduate in Hnurs, students must meet certain minimum standards in the curse wrk beynd secnd year. 1.
