3 David W. Beall Memorial : The David W. Beall Memorial was established to memorialize one of Maconaquah s most beloved teachers. The Students of Beall learned many lessons from Mr. Beall and not only in social studies and government. They learned to become patriotic, responsible citizens with good common sense. Residents of Miami County and graduating Seniors of Maconaquah High School who attended the school for at least 4 years. Must be planning to attend a college, university or trade school in the State of Indiana and show a financial need. A grade point average of a C or above is required and applicant must not be in the top 10% of the graduating class. Those applying should also be actively involved in school, work and the community. David W. Beall Mem. Essay Question. Claude S. and Marie M. Berger Foundation, Inc. : Marie was born in Akron Indiana and worked at the Akron and Rochester Telephone Company. Claude was born in the Gilead area, where he farmed until retiring in Their dedication to the education of students continues on through this scholarship. is eligible for renewal. Must be current graduates of North Miami High School or Tippecanoe Valley High School and have a B average or above. Applicants must also be deserving of financial assistance and show good character and citizenship. One letter of recommendation from an educator - sent to guidance counselor, not the student. Please list three (3) references who are not family members. Claude S. and Marie M. Berger Essay Question. Elaine Cultice Bright Memorial : Elaine was a graduate of Peru High School and covaledictorian of the class of She graduated with honors from Indiana State University and received a degree in accounting. Elaine was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1987 and succumbed to the disease in Her parents have chosen to honor her memory by providing an annual scholarship to a Peru High School female graduate who has been a good student and has been actively involved in school, work, and community. Female students who are residents of Miami County and graduates or past graduates of Peru High School. Must have attended for two years prior to graduating. Must be full time or part time students at an accredited Indiana college, university, trade or vocational school. Involved in school, work and community, display good citizenship and academic accomplishments. Student who are Lilly Endowment Community Scholars, 21 st Century Scholars or those who have a scholarship that pays for their entire tuition are not eligible to apply for this scholarship. The scholarship is eligible for renewal for one year. The Class Of 64 John McElheny Memorial : This scholarship was created by the first class to graduate from Maconaquah High School and memorializes John McElheny, a beloved teacher known as Mac, who inspired and motivated their class to become the First and Best. Graduating senior of Maconaquah High School who has attended Maconaquah High School for one full year before graduation. Must also be pursuing a degree in Elementary or Secondary education; have at least a 2.5 GPA based upon a 4.0 scale; graduating in the top 50% of class; active and involved in school, work, and community and display good citizenship in school, work, and community. Essay Question D. Marilyn Coppernoll Memorial : Graduating seniors of Peru, Maconaquah or North Miami High Schools. Marilyn was a former reporter for the Peru Tribune and community volunteer. She was a widely published free lance writer and AP correspondent who contributed to many publications and authored the Pictorial History of Miami County. For students enrolled in the study of writing or publishing. Must have a C average or above to apply. Letter of recommendation Marilyn Coppernoll Essay Question. Page 3

4 James R. and Bette J. Davis : James and Bette Davis were born and raised in Miami County and were firm advocates of higher education. Must be a graduating Senior at Peru High School. The scholarship will be awarded based upon good citizenship, leadership, and extra-curricular activities. Velma Derbyshire Art : Established in 1968 to provide scholarships to Peru High School students studying fine arts or art education. Must be a graduating senior at Peru High School. The student must show artistic talent and intend to major in art in college; have a GPA of 8.0 or higher on a 12.0 scale, plan to attend an accredited nonprofit college, university or vocational/technical school in Indiana, have successfully participated in Art Department at PHS, and Complete a one page essay with the topic of Art has impacted my life by.. Amanda Drudge Memorial : Amanda planned to become a missionary. She was not able to complete this desire but through the generosity of many Christian people, this scholarship has helped many students who have been able to reach many more people than Amanda could have alone. Students graduating from North Miami, Rochester, and Tippecanoe Valley High Schools. Also home or private school students in the Fulton or Miami County area who have completed the necessary requirements for high school graduates. Financial Need with first priority given to students pursuing a degree in the field of Christian ministry. Second priority will be given to students pursuing a degree in the field of nursing, education (teaching), or social services. 2 letters of recommendation o 1 from his/her pastor. o 1 from his/her school counselor. Amanda Drudge Essay Question LaVonne M. Eddy Nursing : Thomas Eddy established this scholarship in honor of his wife LaVonne in 2006 to benefit students planning a career in nursing. Must be residents of Miami County, who have attended North Miami, Maconaquah, Peru, or Oak Hill High School for at least 2 years prior to graduation, and pursuing a 4 year nursing degree at an accredited college or university. Must have a C or higher GPA and be in the top, 50% of their graduating class. Involved in school, work and community. Essay Question C. Eugene K. and Martha E. Fike Memorial : Created by Eugene and Martha Fike to benefit Peru High School Students. Graduates of Peru High School and likely to succeed in college in the curriculum or discipline of their choice. Tony Hare Photojournalism : Tony was a member of the National Press Photographer's Assoc. and the Indiana Press Photographer's Association. He was Outstanding Photographer of the Year and President of the National Press Photographer's Student Association. Graduating senior or past graduate from any Cass, Miami or White County High School, studying photojournalism at an Indiana college, university or trade school. Seniors in the top 5 of their class are not eligible. Must maintain a C or higher GPA. Essay Question C. Note* Must be a 500 word essay for the Tony Hare Photojournalism essay. Ray E. and Marie Rupp Hoffman Memorial Fund Ray and Marie were both born and raised in Miami County. Ray, on a farm south of Peru and Marie in Peru. They both graduated from Peru High School. Ray graduated from Purdue and Marie from IU. This scholarship is to celebrate and honor their lives. Seniors or past graduates from Maconaquah or Peru High School who are residents of Miami County and pursuing a degree in a technical or business field. The applicant must display good academic accomplishments and deserve financial assistance. Essay Question A Page 4

5 Ryan McCarthy Holmes : Ryan graduated from Peru High School and was a teacher and coach at Triton Central, Westfield High School and Center Grove High School. Students of all the schools listed including Peru High School are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Graduating seniors with a GPA of 2.8 or higher; accepted to a college, university, trade or vocational school. Financial aid will be important in the selection of recipients; member of a church and actively involved; community service; may hold a job during high school. Ryan McCarthy Holmes Essay Question. Two (2) letters of recommendation. o One letter from a staff member of your High School. o One letter from your High School Guidance Counselor Hoppes Memorial Fund Founded in memory of Marion Hoppes by his wife Rhea Hoppes. Rhea was the speech team coach for Maconaquah High School. This scholarship is to award scholarships to Maconaquah HS seniors who participated on the speech team. Maconaquah High School Seniors who participated on the Maconaquah speech team. Applicants must have a GPA of a 3.0 (4.0 scale) or above and must submit a letter of recommendation from a Maconaquah staff member. Preference given to students who have received awards for their participation on the speech team and/or number of years they participated. Letter of recommendation from a Maconaquah staff member Hoppes Memorial Fund Essay Question Randy Hughes Memorial : Awarded to the Valedictorian of North Miami High School. There is no application. J & J : Anonymously created; this fund helps students achieve their dreams of a college education. Seniors graduating from any high school in Miami County, Indiana (at least 4 years) or Whites in Wabash IN. Must have a financial need and GPA of at least a 2.0 (4.0 scale). Special consideration given to those who received the J&J Character Award as recognition of good citizenship for 5 th grade students at Blair Pointe School. May be renewed. J & J Essay Pat Keady Memorial : The scholarship was founded in memory of former Purdue University basketball coach, Gene Keady s wife, Pat. Graduating senior of Maconaquah High School, attending any Indiana college. Two scholarships given, one each to a male and female student. Consideration to students with good athletic accomplishments and those attending Purdue. Special consideration also given to members of the Maconaquah High School Kiwanis Key Club. Active and involved in school, work and community; deserving of financial assistance; Pat Keady Memorial Essay Question Leonora E. Kolb : Created by family of Leonora E. Kolb who passed away in The first scholarships were awarded in Graduates of Peru High School and likely to succeed in college in the curriculum or discipline of their choice. Harrie and Marty Lanning Memorial : This scholarship was established by Harrie and Marty s family. They resided on a farm west of Mexico, Indiana for 35 years and were long standing members of First Christian Church in Peru. The Family would like for Harrie and Marty to be remembered as a generous and giving couple. Resident of Howard or Miami County in Indiana who is graduating or graduated within the previous 5 years from any Howard or Miami County High School in Indiana. A GPA between 2.7 and 3.5 ( 4.0 scale); class rank of 87% or higher; good citizenship in school, work, community; deserving of financial assistance. Essay Question A. Page 5

6 Robert M. Larrison First Farmers Bank & Trust : Robert was a beloved Miami County resident and involved in his community. He was a retired CEO and board member of First Farmers Bank & Trust. His friends at First Farmers Bank & Trust created this scholarship to celebrate his life and love of community. Current resident and graduating senior from any Grant, Howard or Miami County High School likely to succeed as college, university or trade school students. Student s family income must be low to moderate as defined by Federal Regulation. GPA of 3.0 or higher based on a 4.0 scale, participated in athletics during high school, involved in community service, employed during high school career. 2 letters of recommendation from school officials. Copy of 2012 or most recent tax form (Form pages 1 & 2; Form 1040A-pages 1 & 2; Form 1040EZ-page 1). This must be your parents, (the family you live with) tax form not yours unless you are deemed an non-dependent student. John V. and Joyce L. Lewis : John and Joyce were natives of Miami county and 1943 graduates of Peru High School. Must be a graduating Senior at Peru High School. The student must have a GPA of 8.0 or higher on a 12.0 scale, plan to attend an accredited nonprofit college, university or vocational/technical school in Indiana, have successfully participated in the FACS program at PHS. Complete a one page essay with the topic of As a recipient of the John V. and Joyce Lewis, I will.. Virginia Anne Lewis Memorial : Established by her family in memory of Virginia Anne. Must be a graduating senior at Peru High School. The student must plan to attend an accredited nonprofit college, university or vocational/technical school in Indiana. Complete a one page essay with the topic of In my life I have been successful at overcoming Miami County Historical Society Richardson : Honoring Walt and Betty Richardson and Norma and Bill Richardson. Supporting those pursing a degree in the field of history related subjects. Miami County residents graduating seniors accepted into a 2 or 4 year institution enrolled in a history related subject, museum studies, or non-profit administration with a history-related goal. Good citizenship, involved in extracurricular activities. Have a C average. Special consideration given to 1 st Generation College Students. 2 Letters of Recommendation from the following: o 1 letter from a teacher, preferably a history teacher, coach, principal, athletic director, or faculty member. o 1 letter from any other community leader. Miami County Historical Society Essay Question Celia Miller : Created to assist those students who are pursing a degree in Education. Graduating senior from Peru High School accepted into an accredited 4 year college or university pursuing a degree in the field of education, except music education. Ranked in the upper 10% of the graduating class; have talent; display good attitude; deserving of financial assistance; who is a good prospect for completion of a college or university course of study. Essay question D Alice Moon : Alice Moon was a Guidance Counselor at Peru High School. She was a mentor to many students and this scholarship was established by her son George to continue to help the students at PHS. Graduating from Peru High school, have an 8.0 on a 12.0 GPA or the equivalent of a B or higher and show good citizenship in work and community. One Letter of Recommendation Essay question B North Miami Alumni Fund, created by the Class of 1965 : The North Miami class of 1965 was the first class to complete four years of high school at North Miami. The alumni of this class established this scholarship as a legacy to their time at North Miami High School. Graduating senior of North Miami High School Miami County resident. Have at least a 3.0 GPA (4.0 scale); active and involved in school, work and community; display good citizenship and good academic accomplishments. Essay Question A. Page 6

7 Janice Nowling Memorial : Created by family and loved ones to honor this beloved teacher, friend, mother and wife. Jan was involved in the community and a mentor to her students at PHS. Graduating seniors of Peru Senior High School, who have an 8.0 on a 12.0 GPA or the equivalent of a B or higher; show good citizenship in work and community. Janice Nowling Memorial Essay Question. Letter of Recommendation from a teacher. PHS Class of 1995 Memorial : Created by the Peru High School Class of 1995 to honor classmates who have passed away. Graduating seniors of Peru High School attending an accredited college, university, trade or vocational school in Indiana. 2.0 or higher GPA, active and involved in school, work, community and have financial need. Consideration to students whose parent(s) graduated in PHS Class of One Letter of Recommendation Family Contribution) number must be included Peru High School Class of 1995 Essay Question Ashley Rusie Memorial : In the memory of Ashley by family, friends and classmates. She loved to dance, listen to music and spend her time with family and friends. She is remembered as a loving daughter, sister and friend. Residents of Miami County and graduating seniors of North Miami High School. Have a 2.5 or above GPA on a 4.0 scale, active and involved in school work and community. Essay Question A. Randy Steg Memorial Fund: Created by family and friends to honor his memory and benefit local charities in Miami County. Randy graduated from Peru High School and Indiana State University. He spent his short career as an officer of the Indianapolis Police Dept. Graduating seniors of Miami County High Schools and residents of Miami County. Preference given to any student with a relative that graduated from PHS class of Pursuing a degree in one of the following fields of study: criminology, criminal science, criminal justice or law enforcement. Display good citizenship in school, work and community. Financial need is preferred but not required. Letter Randy Steg Memorial Essay Question. FAFSA's Student Aid Report (SAR). Mary Lee Temple Memorial Essay Question. Lynn Smith Tharp Memorial Nursing : The family of Linda Lynn Tharp wishes to honor her love for geriatric nursing. They would like Lynn s life to serve as a model for those individuals who seek to further their education in the field of nursing. Resident of Miami County in Indiana and graduating from North Miami High School pursuing a degree in the field of nursing. Involvement in school, work and community; display good citizenship and good academic accomplishments are important. Essay Question A. Howard C. Unger Memorial : Students of Muncie Community Schools, Angola Public Schools and Peru Community Schools are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Must be a graduating senior of Peru Community Schools, Muncie Community Schools or Angola Public Schools and pursuing college and graduate training in string music. GPA of 2.8 or higher; Page 7

Include your name on the top left of the page and the name of the scholarship you are applying for on the top right of each page. Respond with insight, good grammar and English usage, and clarity of thought. Essay question A. Describe your plans for the future and the importance of receiving a post-high school education. Essay question B. Briefly describe the person that has been most influential in your life and how they assisted you. Please also express your personal reasons for desiring a post-high school education. Essay question C. Describe your desire to pursue a career in your selected field. Please also express your personal reasons for desiring a post-high school education. (if applying for the Tony Hare Photojournalism, the essay must be at least 500 words) Essay Question D. Why have you chosen to pursue a degree in education and what are your career goals? David W. Beall Memorial Essay Question. A 100 word typed essay describing how they have overcome a specific hardship in order to achieve their personal and educational goals. Claude S. and Marie M. Berger Essay Question. A one page letter stating why you should receive this scholarship. Minimum of 250 words. Marilyn Coppernoll Essay Question. Briefly describe your vocational objective in the field of writing, publishing or journalism. Please, also, express your personal reasons for desiring a post-high school education. Amanda Drudge Memorial Essay Question. Write a paragraph for each of the following: 1. Describe your relationship to Jesus Christ. Include in your statement how you came to make such a commitment. 2. How do you plan to serve Christ during and after completion of your education? 3. If you have not personally accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior why should you be considered for this scholarship? Ryan McCarthy Holmes Essay Question. Write a short essay on how you have contributed to your community and the importance of their faith in your life. Hoppes Memorial Fund Essay Question. Explain the influence that speech competition has had in your life. J & J Essay Question. A three-paragraph essay entitled, These Are My Aspirations. In addition to the essay, on a separate sheet of paper, briefly describe your educational plans as they relate to you and your career goals. Also include some of the points you would like the Foundation to remember about you when reviewing all the scholarship applications. Pat Keady Memorial Essay Question. In 500 words or less. How has your involvement in athletics impacted your performance as a student at Maconaquah High School and how would you help the Maconaquah Alumni Association? Miami County Historical Society Essay Question. 100 word essay on how this schooling will enhance your career pursuit. Janice Nowling Memorial Essay Question. Where do you see yourself in 10 years? PHS Class of 1995 Memorial Essay Question. In 500 words or less, describe your extracurricular activities (athletic, leadership, academic, civic or other) and how those are important to you (i.e. what they mean to you, how they helped shape you, or how you anticipate them helping you in college and beyond). Any recognitions or awards should be clearly stated along with your commitment to excellence, leadership and achievement.
