On this page you will find a list of software and hardware products which were tested by IBM and other vendors, using certain configurations of the following list of IBM storage networking products. This is a list of software and hardware products, which were tested by IBM and other vendors, using certain configurations of the following list of IBM storage networking products: The NAS 200 includes the 5194 Model 200, 201, 225 and 226. The NAS 300 includes the 5195 Model 325* and 5195 Model 326*. The NAS 300G includes the 5196 Model G00, G01, G25* and G26*. The IP Storage 200i includes the 4125 Models 100, 110, 200 and 210 * The following are dual clustered configurations. "Yes"- indicates that IBM has tested the specified software with the corresponding IBM storage networking product. "No"- only indicates that testing by IBM has not yet occurred. Please note that most, if not all of the software listed is expected to perform normally in conjunction with the corresponding storage networking products, it just may not have been tested by IBM as yet. This chart will be updated on an ongoing basis as further tests are performed. Please refer to the more detailed information that follows these summary charts for specific product information. 4 IBM TotalStorage? IP Storage 200i One of the benefits of iscsi technology is that the protocol functions in a way that is transparent to the client operating system, database, middleware or applications. Hence, any environment that operates on a supported operating system should work with the IP Storage 200i. To date the following software has been tested in conjunction with the IP Storage 200i. We will update the list on an ongoing basis as more tests are completed. 5 Software Interoperability Details Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) Provides backup / recovery management for logical volume and files, including LAN-free support. Tivoli Storage Manager client version 4.2 (or later) Version 4.2 client is pre-loaded on the NAS 200, NAS 300 and NAS 300G Version will be made available on the web client for the support of LAN-free backup support. Contact IBM support IBM-SERV The Tivoli Storage Manager Server function must be installed on a server on the network in order to use the TSM client function that is pre-loaded on these NAS products. Before using this TSM function, licenses must be purchased for both the TSM Server and for each pre-loaded TSM client code. To purchase TSM server or client licenses contact IBM Tivoli (in the US call TIVOLI ( ) -or or see VERITAS NetBackup Datacenter for Windows NT/2000 Backup NAS operating system partition or the user data partitions to tape VERITAS NetBackup Datacenter for Windows NT/2000 Version 3.4 (or later) Client Normal Windows 2000 software installation procedures on any of the above models. This software is not pre-loaded. Contact the software vendor ( The optional barcode reader on the IBM 3581 LTO tape library is not supported with NetBackup Datacenter 3.4. VERITAS device drivers should be installed for tape devices instead of the manufacturer's drivers or Microsoft Windows drivers. 6 VERITAS Backup Exec Backup NAS operating system partition or the user data partitions to tape VERITAS Backup Exec 8.0 (or later) Client Normal Windows 2000 software installation procedures on any of the above models. This software is not pre-loaded. Contact the software vendor ( VERITAS device drivers should be installed for tape devices instead of the manufacturer's drivers or Microsoft Windows drivers. Therefore, during the software installation, select VERITAS drivers instead of the OEM drivers. For all NAS products -- There is a known conflict between the VERITAS Open File Option and the IBMsupplied software; therefore the Open File Option should not be installed (nor used). IBM is aware of this conflict and every attempt is being made to correct it in a later release of the software for these products. For and 5196-G25 -- if Backup Exec is running on a cluster engine that fails, IBM's testing indicated that Backup Exec must be restarted manually on the other engine. Legato Networker for Windows NT/2000 Backup NAS operating system partition or the user data Legato Networker for Windows NT/2000 Version 6.0, and 6.11 Clients Normal Windows 2000 software installation procedures on any of the above models. This software is not pre-loaded. Contact the software vendor ( Legato Networker Version has been tested with the , , , 5196-G00 and 5196-G25. Legato uses OEM drivers for the tape drive but uses its own driver for the media changer. Therefore, the OEM driver should be loaded for the tape drive. If the OEM or any other driver is loaded for the media changer, it should be uninstalled before the Legato software installation. For , , and 5196-G25 and 5196-G26 only: Creating a PSM Persistent Image of the NAS operating system volume (C:\) while a backup is in progress may cause the backup to stop. This issue is under investigation. In the meantime, do not create a Persistent Image on the NAS C:\ system volume while tape backup is in progress. 7 CA ARCserve 2000 Backup NAS operating system partition or the user data partitions to tape Version 2000 (or later) Client Normal Windows 2000 software installation procedures on any of the above models. This software is not pre-loaded. Contact the software vendor ( , or 5196-G25 - At the time of IBM's testing, if a clustering failover occurs during a backup, the backup is not restarted automatically on the new node. CA ARCserve uses its own drivers for the tape device(s). If any other drivers are loaded for the media changer, they should be uninstalled before the CA ARCserve software installation G01, or 5196-G26 - Registry edit is needed. First stop Tape Engine, got to: HKLM->software->Computer Associates ->ARCSERVE IT-> BASE -> TAPEENGINE. Add key "CONFIG", leave class blank. Add key DWORD "EnableSharedDevices" and set data value to 1. WQuinn StorageCentral Provides advanced storage resource management (disk quota, disk usage reporting, others) StorageCentral SRM Active Directory 5.0 or above StorageCentral SRM Standard 5.0 or above Use keyboard, mouse and monitor directly attached to the NAS appliance Contact the software vendor ( IBM has successfully installed and demonstrated StorageCentral program suite on the above IBM NAS products. W.Quinn StorageCentral SRM may consume large disk space for the work area (2GB), thus it is recommended to be installed to user disk space rather than C: drive. 8 IBM DB2 IBM TotalStorage TM Network Attached Storage As a foundation of e-business, DB2 is a multimedia, Web-ready relational database management system. NAS products:db2 UDB 7.1 on IBM AIX 4.3.3, Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, SUN Solaris 8 or Red Hat Linux IP Storage 200i products: DB2 UDB 7.1 on Red Hat Linux or Microsoft Windows NT/2000. Windows environments require IBM's iscsi Client for Windows 2000, and Windows 2000 Service Pack 2 or Windows NT 4 Service Pack 6. DB2 must be installed on an application server, NOT on the NAS or IP Storage 200i appliance. No additional client code is necessary to be installed on the IBM NAS or IP Storage 200i. IBM TotalStorage NAS and IP Storage 200i product support DB2 UDB database files can be created on the IBM TotalStorage NAS and IP Storage 200i products. NAS products: DB2 UDB database files can be created on the IBM TotalStorage NAS products. DB2 UDB running on an application server must be connected to the IBM TotalStorage NAS products via either the CIFS or NFS network protocol. If DB2 UDB is running on the Microsoft Windows NT operating system, CIFS protocol is recommended. If DB2 UDB is running on a Unix platform that includes IBM AIX, SUN Solaris or Linux, the NFS protocol is recommended. IP Storage 200i: DB2 UDB running on an application server and must be connected to the IBM TotalStorage IP Storage 200i products using IBM's iscsi Client for Windows (or equivalent). This client is shipped with the IP Storage 200i unit and must be installed on each server that requires access to the iscsi device. This code may also be downloaded from: Click here Important notice for Solaris and Linux DB2 users: DB2 Linux and DB2 Solaris require known configuration modifications. A configuration tool has been included with Product CD shipped with IBM NAS. More information can be found at Select "Hints and Tips" from "Information" group. From the list, find out the document entitled "IBM DB2 UDB Server (for Solaris and Linux) Support Enablement Utilities. You may also search using the keyword "DB2". For Solaris users: in order to support DB2 over NFS v3, please make sure to apply Solaris 8 patch " ". This information can also be found in the link indicated above. Important notice for IP Storage users: 1. Configure the logical drives in write-through mode. 2. While using the Linux client (i.e. DB2 running on a Linux server), if the IP Storage 200i terminated abnormally, the iscsi module should be unloaded and reloaded on the Linux client (i.e. DB2 server machine) prior to restarting or bringing the database back online. 9 Oracle One of leading relational database management systems in the industry. Oracle 8.17 on IBM AIX 4.3.3, SUN Solaris 8 or Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Oracle RDMS must be installed on an application server, NOT on the NAS box. No additional client code needs to be installed on the IBM NAS. For Oracle product support, contact Oracle Support Services at or by phone at numbers listed by geography on this website. Contact IBM TotalStorage NAS product support for hardware-related or configuration modification issues. An Oracle database file can be created on the IBM TotalStorage NAS products. Oracle RDBMS running on an application server must be connected to the IBM TotalStorage NAS products via either the CIFS or NFS network protocol; however, the NFS network protocol is recommended. In clustering configuration (NAS 300 and NAS 300G), Oracle can fail over to secondary node if primary node is down. However it does not automatically fail over from secondary node even when the primary node has been fixed. Oracle suggests fail over by manual operation. Contact Oracle support for further information IBM Director TM IBM Director? is a highly integrated systems management software solution built that can manage individual or large groups of IBM non-ibm PC-based servers, IBM NAS appliances, desktops, workstations and notebooks on a variety of platforms, including: Microsoft Windows and Linux to name few. IBM Director version 2.0 or above IBM Director Agent is preloaded on all NAS appliances. 10 MS SQL Server 2000 One of leading relational database management system in Windows environments. Microsoft SQL Server 2000 on Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 MS SQL Server 2000 must be installed on an application server., NOT on the NAS box. No additional client code needs to be installed on the IBM NAS. Contact the software vendor ( Microsoft SQL 2000 Server running on an application server must be connected to one of these IBM NAS products via the CIFS network protocol. Before creating the database file on the IBM NAS product, the registry file on the Windows operating system must have the Trace Flag set to If this is not done one of the following error messages will be encountered: 5105 "Device Activation Error" or 5110 "File 'file_name' is on a network device not supported for database files". Lotus Domino Integrated software for , calendar, group scheduling, Web serving, and information management Lotus Domino on IBM AIX or Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Lotus Domino must be installed on an application server. No additional client code is necessary to be installed on the IBM NAS. Contact the software vendor ( Lotus Domino running on an application server must be connected to one of these IBM NAS products via either the CIFS or NFS network protocol. If Lotus Domino is running on the Microsoft Windows NT operating system, the CIFS protocol is recommended. 11 MS Exchange As foundation software, it enables users to exchange messages via customer's network or Internet. Microsoft Exchange 5.5 MS Exchange must be installed on an application server, NOT on the NAS box. No additional client code needs to be installed on the IBM NAS Contact the software vendor ( MS Media Server Media sever distributes multimedia contents to clients via HTTP protocol Microsoft Media Player 7 and Internet Explorer for client MS Media Server and IIS must be installed to application server, Microsoft Media Player 7 and Internet Explorer should be installed at client Contact the software vendor ( IBM TotalStorage NAS products serve multimedia data streaming to clients. Multimedia data files and HTML Files written for calling Media Player 7 ActiveX Control can be placed on IBM TotalStorage NAS products. Clients can receive data streaming by opening the HTML file via the Web browser. 12 WebSphere Application Server (WAS) As e-business infrastructure, WAS provides the core software needed to deploy, integrate and manage e-business applications WebSphere Application Server 3.5 or 4.01 on IBM AIX or Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 WAS must be installed on an application server. No additional client code needs to be installed on the IBM NAS. IBM WebSphere product support at WAS has been tested in configuration with IBM DB2 UDB. Both WAS data and DB2 UDB database files can be created on IBM TotalStorage NAS products. WAS running on an application server must be connected to an IBM TotalStorage NAS product via either CIFS or NFS network protocol. If WAS is running on the Microsoft Windows NT operating system, the CIFS protocol is recommended. If WAS is running on IBM AIX, it must be connected via the NFS protocol. Lawson Recommended version: Lawson Software delivers enterprise software solutions developed and designed to serve the specialized needs of service industries. Large to mid-sized organizations in professional services, healthcare, financial services, retail, public sector and other strategic markets rely on their systems to automate and integrate critical business processes and to facilitate collaboration among customers, partners, suppliers and employees. Lawson applications at version (or higher) running the Lawson environment at version (or higher) Windows / NT or Windows / 2000 with IBM's iscsi Client for Windows 2000 Service Pack 2 and Windows NT 4 Service Pack 6. No changes were required to either the Lawson environment nor Lawson applications. 200i was used to store the Lawson application suite and the DB2 V7 was used for the application data. IBM's iscsi Client for Windows (or equivalent) needs to be installed on each server that requires access to an iscsi device.
