1 1 Storage and Backup Infrastructure 1.1 Objectives and Requirements The Tenderer should provision the storage and backup infrastructure and other accessories as required for the systems that would be hosted at the NIC/NICSI s Data Centre. While designing the solution the tenderer should also keep in mind that this Data Centre will also act as Disaster Recovery Centre for all the State Data Centres. The solution proposed should cater for an optimal approach wherein multiple storage requirements over different States/primary sites are addressed in an effective manner and the solution also addresses the requirements with minimum technical changes as well as minimal commissioning issues over these different primary sites. Requirement of major components and accessories has been identified by NIC/NICSI and is mentioned in the following clauses. In case the Tenderer feels that any additional components are required to make the proposed solution complete, the same should be proposed by the Tenderer and included in its Bid. The following is an indicative list of Components and Software that should be provided as part of this tender. Enterprise Class Storage System, Unified NAS Enterprise Class Core FC Switch, Aggregation FC switch and Edge FC Switches Enterprise Tape Library & Virtual Tape Library Software o o Native Device Management Software along with Storage System SAN Fabric Management along with SAN Switches SAN Fabric should have 2 Core Switches, two Aggregation FC switches of minimum 40 Ports in each PoD and one/two Edge FC Switch in each Rack. Following is the indicative logical schematic of the SAN Fabric showing only the main components that are to be provisioned for NIC/NICSI. The diagram is for indicative purposes only and the Tenderer should feel free to make improvements wherever required. Tenderer must consider this model, take into account the ICT infrastructure proposed to be hosted at the Data Centre and accordingly propose a suitable Storage Solution as part of its bid response.

It is estimated that initially in phase-i around 200 Server racks shall be hosted at the Data Centre. Each rack would host approximately 15 Servers of 1 U Form factor on an average. The number of racks is estimated to scale to a total of approximately 400 Server Racks in future. Some Servers that may require dual-pathing for achieving high availability should be provisioned with redundant connectivity through 2 different Edge Switches in the Racks. Each Edge switch must be connected through redundant paths to both the Aggregation SAN Switches in a PoD. Each Aggregation switch must be connected through at least 2 redundant paths to both the Core SAN Switches. The SAN Core, Aggregation & Edge Switches should necessarily be from the same OEM. The Edge, Aggregation & Core Switches should have capabilities for connecting over multiple inter-switch links (ISL) trunks. Tenderer must propose the solution such that the ISL trunks allow aggregation of multiple ports on each Switch in order to achieve higher bandwidth. Necessary licenses to support this feature must quoted along the switch. The ISL trunks between Switches should be configured in load balancing mode. The Switches must be proposed along with all necessary software/licenses required to achieve this functionality. This requirement is an estimation considering connectivity of edge SAN Switches, Storage System, Tape library, NAS gateway, Backup server, etc. with each Core SAN Switch.
