2 In the midst of a period of unprecedented growth for global insurance, with the industry predicted to swell to $659 billion by 2017, the world s top insurance brokers, fleet companies, auto OEMs and financial companies, IT companies, consultancies and all the top players in the vehicle insurance industry met for the 3rd China Vehicle Insurance Summit 2014 in the Crowne Plaza hotel in Beijing. Telematics, Usage-Based Insurance and other recent technological advances were under close scrutiny with industry experts explaining to delegates how they could be applied to vehicle insurance in order to run more efficient and profitable businesses. Representatives from the China Insurance Regulatory Commission were present and gave thorough analyses and interpretations of China s recent reforms that have led China s vehicle insurance industry towards a more market-based approach with market-orientated vehicle premium rates. In addition to this, seasoned industry veterans such as Andrew Byrne from AIG were present to offer those present the insight from their experience of the market and described how foreign insurers can enter, integrate and thrive in the Chinese market. Not only receiving market information in the form of traditional presentations, delegates also participated in more open panel discussions in which they had the chance have their questions answered directly by industry experts. During these sessions, delegates were able to have their ideas discussed and improved by their peers. All the delegates went home contented and brimming with prospects. The networking opportunities were abundant and varied with gourmet buffet dinners and lunches, a cocktail party, and many breaks for coffee and ice breaking. Delegates all-round found the event fulfilling to the utmost, and were enthusiastic to return next year.
