Remember, you can access the internet at your local library. If you need more detailed course information, or if you are not sure which is the right course or level for you, contact our advice and enrolment team on FREEphone and we will be happy to help. What if I can t afford the fee? If you are in receipt of certain benefits or a low income, you might be entitled to pay the reduced fee listed in our brochure, and some benefits entitle you to attend the course for free. This may also mean you can receive help from our Learner Support Fund, which can help you pay for childcare, travel, course fees, exam fees and resources relating to your attendance of our courses. If you feel that you might struggle to pay your course fee all at once, you might be able to pay the fee in instalments if it is above 50. Please note that if you have not been a resident of the UK/EU/EEA for the previous three years you will have to pay double the full fee of the course. If you have any further questions, please ask them at enrolment. We hope you find the new brochure layout easy to browse and find a course you would like to join. We welcome new and returning adult learners - all ages and abilities - to our classes which offer a friendly, inclusive and enjoyable place to learn. Some courses lead to valuable qualifications that could impact on your life with job progression, a new career, confidence building to help your children at school, or improve your general health and wellbeing with a new interest or increased fitness. Additional courses start throughout the year as well as those listed in this brochure so please contact us; visit our website or new Facebook page for more information and news. We are delighted that outcomes for our Traineeship programme were rated Outstanding by Ofsted and we were awarded an overall service grade of Good by inspectors. We have also recently achieved matrix accreditation for our excellent information, advice and guidance given to learners. So, if you need help to achieve your learning or career goals, we promise to work hard to support you. Courses are available at the reduced fee, or may even be free if you are in receipt of certain benefits or on a low income. They run at a range of venues and at different times to help fit around work and family commitments. Also, some of our Skills for Work and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) courses will now run for two sessions per week to help learners progress more quickly. This is an ideal qualification to improve job performance, find a new job or learn how to use today s technologies more efficiently. Carl s tutor, Caroline Freeman, is thrilled with his progress, saying Carl s English and confidence have improved hugely throughout the course, and it s great to see how his progression is benefitting him personally. Coming to class has given him confidence in his abilities. Now he wants to help other people who are like him and to help them achieve their potential by sharing with them his learning experience. Carl does have additional learning needs but he has the necessary support and equipment he needs, in class, to help him achieve the learning goals he sets himself. Carl is also studying maths functional skills and hopes both will stand him in good stead in his search for employment, and is currently working on his second book! 22 ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) We offer courses for learners whose first language is not English and who need to learn or improve their English for life, community and work in the UK. 38 want to... kick start your career? TRAINEESHIPS I really enjoyed the programme and gained a lot from it. It helped me to learn a lot about myself and career progression. I gained confidence, knowledge and skills. I really enjoyed being part of a large team at Loughborough University in the IT Services Department. Kamar Kamar is a well-respected member of the department. He should be extremely proud of the work he has done during his time with us. I am sure he will go far in his chosen future career. Sharon ICT Department, Loughborough University Traineeships are a new initiative specifically designed for 16 to 24 year olds who are keen to find work or an apprenticeship, but so far haven t been successful during the application stage. A traineeship consists of work experience with a local employer as well as time in a classroom, where you will be taught subjects such as English, Maths, work preparation skills, interview skills, CV writing, team building and employability skills. The programme is designed to fit in with DWP guidance and will not affect your benefits. The programme could be extended to include ICT, first aid, food safety and health and safety, should this be appropriate to the type of work you are seeking. All trainees must be committed to the programme as well as seeking employment or an apprenticeship. Leicestershire Adult Learning Service will offer information, advice and guidance throughout the programme to support your applications. I ve been on the course for a year now and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. The on-going support that I have received from my tutor and assessor has been phenomenal with clear plans and guidance there has never been a point in time where I have felt unsure or unable with my work. The experience of working as a Learning Support Assistant at the Meadows Community Primary School has been truly insightful and exciting, with my confidence always growing and my skill set continually developing thanks to the support and training I have received. I have just completed my level 2 qualification and I am about to start my level 3, which I am very much looking forward to. I would highly recommend this course to anybody who is looking for a career in education! It has opened up a lot of doors for me.
