1 Curriculum The PhD-candidates that fulfill minimum requirements in economic formation are required to participate in PhD modules equivalent to 24 ECTS-credits in the fields of methods, specialization and key qualifications. They are also request to participate in interdisciplinary courses in Talca equivalent to 12 ECTS-credits. They also have to provide an annual progress report and participate in an additional bridge-module in statistics and econometrics. 2 Introduction We offer Ph.D. Courses in Graduate perspective The PhD-Program Agricultural Economics is jointly offered by the Georg-August-Universität of Göttingen (Germany) and Universidad de Talca (Chile). These universities have a long partnership history as they have offer a joint MSc-Program since During the first year, Ph.D. students in the program take courses in a well-established PhD-Program in Agricultural Economics in Göttingen ( Promotionskolleg Agrarökonomik, The second or third year the students spent time at the Universidad de Talca to take interdisciplinary courses at the Doctorado en Ciencias Agrarias and carry out their Ph.D. research in a dynamic scientific environment. The program contemplates enough flexibility to carry on the research topic where it is more convenient for the student objective. The program is supported by eight cooperation partners from the fields of science, agribusiness and public administration; these partners provide ideas, and contribute to the supervision of Ph.D. research projects. Since 2002 many of our MSc-Alumni have pursued successful careers in enterprises such as Concha y Toro and Cargill Spain, as well as in international organizations such as the FAO, the Ministry of Agriculture in Chile, Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and FLO International. Objectives of the program - Application of the economic theory to problems in international agribusiness, international trade, market and policy, farm management, marketing and rural development. - Carrying out relevant applied agricultural economic research in cooperation with leading research institutes and key agricultural stakeholders in Latinoamerica and Europe. - Providing training in cutting-edge methods of quantitative and qualitative. - Imparting the skills required to publish results in international journals. - Training participants in communication with policy makers and other stakeholders. - Developing solutions and strategies to fight again hunger, poverty and resource depletion. 3 CHILEAN SCHOLARSHIPS FOR JOINT PHD PROGRAM IN AGRICULTURAL ECONOMICS (JPPAE) UNIVERSITY OF TALCA (CHILE) UNIVERSITY OF GÖTTINGEN (GERMANY) The University of Talca (Chile) and the Georg-August-Universität of Göttingen (Germany) are offering an English-language Joint PhD program in Agricultural Economics (JPPAE). During the first year, students in the program take courses in the Doctoral Program in Agricultural Economics in Germany, ( PromotionskollegAgrarókonomik, From the second year, students spend their time at the University of Talca, Chile, to take interdisciplinary courses under the academic framework of the PhD in Agricultural Sciences and carry out their PhD research in a dynamic scientific environment. The University of Talca will award scholarships to three outstanding applicants to participate in the Joint PhD program in Agricultural Economics beginning in October The scholarships will cover monthly expenses and one plane ticket (Chile Germany Chile or equivalent). German tuition per semester (250 euros for WS 12/13) and Chilean registration fees (650 euros totally) are not included in the scholarships. The academic requirements and the process for the application to the Joint PhD program in Agricultural Economics can be found at Knowledge of Spanish and/or German is an asset, as is a proven record of interest in research on the development of the agricultural area in Latin America and pertinent interactions with Germany / the European Union. Applications for scholarships are in parallel with the application to the Joint PhD program. We will use the information that you submit with your application to the Joint PhD program to select the scholarship holders. The application form for the University of Talca Scholarships can be downloaded from Applications for scholarships will be evaluated by the Academic Committee of the Doctorate program of the Agrarian Science College in Talca and will cover the following criteria: Academic performance and publications: 60% Research proposal, motivation and letters of recommendation: 40%

4 Application deadline: April 23, 2013 Results communication: May 27, 2013! Scholarship requirements: Thesis topic should be relevant for Chile, and there is a special interest in topics related to sustainable agriculture, productivity and efficiency, impact evaluation, rural development and competiveness of supply chains. Scholars must spend at least 18 month in Chile.
