Two-Year MasTer s PrograMMes King s is expanding its range of two-year master s specifically designed for international students. These programmes provide you with clear routes into a range of prestigious MA and MSc programmes across the College. The first year functions as a type of pre-master s programme and leads directly into your master s programme in year two. These new programmes offer you a unique opportunity to take an integrated approach to your master s study. They combine study in your academic area with an explicit focus on developing your academic English, analytical and research skills over two years. These programmes are taught jointly by School and English Language Centre (ELC) academics. The ELC is accredited by the British Council. The 2009 inspection awarded the ELC points of excellence in six general categories, the highest score achieved across all Colleges in the University of London. These programmes are suitable for you if you want to study your master s at King s and develop your subject, English and critical thinking skills. The programme is aimed at international students who need to develop their subject, academic English and critical thinking skills. School of Social Science & Public Policy This programme is coordinated by the Department of Political Economy on behalf of the School of Social Science & Public Policy. We are looking for a background which demonstrates excellent academic potential and will consider applications from students with a non-social science background. You must have a minimum IELTS score of 6.0 (with no skill below 5.5) or TOEFL 80 ibt (visit our website for minimum skills levels). I took this programme as I knew the War Studies MA is very popular and a competitive entry programme. This programme has been very useful in helping me improve my academic English and subject knowledge in preparation for my MA. All the tutors were very supportive throughout the programme. 5 Humanities & Academic English This interdisciplinary programme is aimed at international students from a wide range of academic backgrounds who wish to study with our world-renowned School of Arts & Humanities at graduate level but who do not yet qualify for direct entry. THE MAUGHAN LIBRARY The programme supports students who need to develop their humanities, academic English and critical thinking skills prior to graduate study. It draws on the expertise of academics working across King s and offers a unique integration of humanities and academic English tuition. It introduces you to core humanities theories and research from a variety of different perspectives, using a range of analytical tools. It develops key humanities skills in the careful management and interpretation of sources and guides you in developing confident and independent research methods and forms of critical address.
