1 English Programme im akademischen Jahr 2013/2014 English Programme in the Academic Year 2013/2014 *for English see below* Im akademischen Jahr 2013/2014 freuen wir uns Ihnen erneut ein Programm mit englischsprachigen Kursen anbieten zu können. Die weiter unten beschriebenen Kurse sind ein Angebot für Austauschstudierende, die sich ihrer Deutschkenntnisse nicht sicher sind oder die deutsche Sprache noch nicht beherrschen. Neben den Kursen aus den wirtschaftswissenschaftlichen Bachelor-Studiengängen haben die Austauschstudierenden die Möglichkeit ihre Deutschkenntnisse mit Hilfe folgender Kurse zu verbessern: Deutsch als Fremdsprache 1 und 2 sowie Wirtschaftsdeutsch. Es ist auch möglich Kurse aus den englischsprachigen und deutschsprachigen Angeboten zu kombinieren, da die deutschsprachigen Kurse offen für Austauschstudierende sind! Die Austauschstudierenden werden im Studiengang Bachelor International Business Administration (BIBA) eingeschrieben, aber sie dürfen auch Kurse aus den anderen Studiengängen besuchen. The courses detailed below are a proposal for students who do not feel safe in the German language or even for those who are not speaking German. Alongside courses of Business Administration the students have the opportunity to improve their German language skills by joining "German as a Foreign Language 1 or 2" and "Business German. It is also possible to combine courses from the English and the German programme, which is of course available for everyone! The Incoming students will be enrolled in the bachelor course International Business Administration (BIBA), but they are allowed to attend courses in the other study programmes, too. 4 Selling and Sales Management B4SSME The focus is on international sales activities and organizations and the management thereof. *Prerequisites: sufficient knowledge of English and basic knowledge of marketing required Examination: Assignments/tba International Management: SMEs HGSME The aim of this course is to get an overview of strategic issues that affect international management, especially focusing on the involvement of small and medium-sized enterprises in such processes. Strategic management is imperative if international organisations wish to maintain success and hence it is of great significance to consider alternative approaches to strategy formulation in complex environments, to examine the options and challenges that the international firm is confronted with, and to design an appropriate strategy for the implementation of the same. Since SMEs play an important role in Germany s economic growth, emphasis shall be laid on companies participating in the international arena. The course will be supported by lectures/workshops which will entail analyses of case studies and discussions pertaining to the same. *Prerequisites: sufficient knowledge of English and basic knowledge of management issues required Examination: presentation and written assignment

5 Intercultural Management B4IME For a better understanding of foreign culture this course is dealing with international questions about culture in companies and business communication. *Prerequisites: sufficient knowledge of English and good basis in general management theory required Examination: presentation and written assignment or written exam Organisation and Personnel B2BW4E 4.0 / 5.0* 3 The course will provide an understanding of organisational and personnel management as an important part of the corporate strategy. Several implementation approaches with their risks and opportunities will be discussed within the framework of international case studies. Specific topics to be covered are: Basics of corporate strategy planning; Models of organisational and personnel behavior in (international) organizations), distinctions within operational and organizational structures, general approaches towards personnel requirement planning, personnel development, Personnel management, personnel reduction *Prerequisites: sufficient knowledge of English and basic knowledge of Organisational Behaviour required Examination: * 4 ECTS Credits: assignment and presentation; 5 ECTS Credits: assignment and presentation + extra assignments

6 International Project Management HIPME This course will provide the students an understanding of project management techniques when used as a generic management tool. The main philosophy of this course is to enable the students to organize small projects and work on a project. The student will have a general knowledge of project management terms and techniques such as the triple constraint, the project life-cycle understand the basics on how to deal with occurring problems on a project understand how to give successful presentations know how to use visual aids to maximum effect be able to use MS-EXCEL, MS-Visio, MS-Project understand and use techniques for evaluation, planning and management of projects be able to cooperate with colleagues The course has limited capacity for students *Prerequisites: sufficient knowledge of English and knowledge of Excel, Power Point, basics in financial accounting and bookkeeping required Examination: tba Project Management B4PRME 4.0 / 5.0* 3 The course will provide the framework for working in a project team environment or engineers who are faced with an increasing management component in their work. General project management skills will be taught. 7 ERP-Advanced (SAP) HERP3E SAP architecture, sales- and adaption-concepts as well as partner strategies SAP introduction models/ implementation-guide Acquirement of a independent topic of the ERP-environment (SAP, Navision) Prerequisites: only for students from higher semesters who have basic knowledge of an ERP-system, Students with good knowledge of an ERP-System should contact the lecturer prior to lecture to check their skills Examination: tba Business German SPDW Business German for foreign students with good knowledge of German. In diesem Kurs werden Sie über das aktuelle Wirtschaftsgeschehen in Deutschland sprechen, etwas über Business Etiquette lernen und Themengebiete wie Dienstleistungen, Werbung, Banken und das Thema Wie bewerbe ich mich für einen Job in Deutschland etc. sprechen. Es wird viel aktiv gesprochen und diskutiert und auch das schriftliche Deutsch wird verbessert. Prerequisites: advanced knowledge of German Examination: written exam (1 hour)

8 German as a Foreign Language 1 SPDE German for foreign students with basic knowledge. This course appeals to those international students who have little or no knowledge of the German language. The course is conducted with 4 LPW (60 lesson hours per semester) as Level 1 of the United European Frame of Reference for languages. The course offers the students the possibility to acquire basic knowledge of the German language to be able to communicate in everyday situations. The skills of auditory and reading comprehension along with written and speaking skills will be trained in the duration of this course. In the foreground of this course stands communication that is used in everyday life. Topics of this course will be: To greet and bid farewell to people, to make suggestions and express intent, ask for directions, go shopping, prepare for doctor visits, and to agree on appointments and meetings. Prerequisites: none Examination: exam German as a Foreign Language 2 SPDE German for foreign students with very good knowledge in speaking and writing. Inhalt: Gedenken und Gedenktage, Feste und Brauchtum, Ess- und Trinkgewohnheiten, Typisch Deutsch, Menschliche Beziehungen in der Familie, Verwandtschaft, zu Freunden, Nachbarn, Redensarten zu den Themen Charakter, Kleidungstücke, Farben, Bildliche Vergleiche: Menschen-Tiere, Redemittel für Sprechabsichten in einer Diskussion; Streitgespräche über verschiedene Inhalte (z.b. 9 Business English I Bachelor of International Business Administration SPEW (BIBA) The module offers an initiation to the world of business, its legal and organizational structures, to the tasks of management and such elementary questions as operation funding. One should learn the terminology and linguistic possibilities for the representation and description of these fields. For this purpose, depending on the requirements, corresponding linguistic structures and linguistic rules will be repeated or newly trained. Prerequisites: English test will be done at the beginning of the semester Examination: exam Business English III Bachelor of International Business Administration SPEW (BIBA) The module will be performed in seminar form with demanding fundamental texts and applicable publications as well as practical language exercises. 10 Business English II Bachelor of Business Administration (BWL) SPE Contained in the course are select themes from four core areas of operations Production, Marketing, Accounting, Personnel with its corresponding technical terms and documents. This course places students in a position to verbally be able to work within companies with a foreign language and to be able to understand written text and to be able to express oneself within the context of the foreign language.
