2 Business Studies for Echange Students in English - (undergraduates) I 1 International Economics This course aims to provide with a theoretical & empirical understanding of how countries f t into the modern, inter-connected global economy. It will be concerned with the etent to which national governments can influence the terms of their integration into the world economy. Introduction to ongoing process of European integration. Balance of payments, trade theory, contemp. patterns of trade & the international division of labour, WTO & the debate over free trade, multinational corporations & Foreign Direct Investment, Echange rate systems, IMF & World Bank, regional blocks: EU, NAFTA, APC/ASEAN, developing countries in the international economy, the globalisation controversy 4 6 special designed for echange I 2 International Management International business environment and its main features. Global, regional and emerging Markets Organizational cultures and diversity. The strategy of international business. Entry strategies and strategic alliances in international business. Analysis of international competition Global Human Resource Management. Global materials management. Impact of ebusiness on internationally active forms 4 5 special designed for echange I 3 Managing Organizations Targeted competences: ability to understand and differentiate between the tasks and the content of management from both institutional and functional perspectives. Acquaintance with conceptual fundamentals required to fulfill management functions various management roles, individual areas Planning and Control in order to differentiate between and understand operative vs. strategic perspectives. 2nd focus on: Organisation and Leadership, various leader- ship styles and their underlying theories, discussion of process and person centered leader- ship techniques in order to facilitate understanding of the scope and direction of their effects. Recognise corporate, economic and social challenges and conditions and their developments. Estimation of their epected effects taking factors of interdependence into account. Case studies are supplemented with suitable online learning programmes for interdependency analysis 4 6 special designed for echange I 6 Innovation Management Topics: product innovation, process innovation. Innovation & industrial evolution. Strategic impact of innovation. Research and development, organization and controlling. IT systems in in- novation processes. Creativity methods. It not only imparts and deepens business knowledge but promotes team work in the participating groups since they have to justify their decisions as managers or owners of the company and bear responsibility for the consequences resulting from their decisions. Students will be trained to deal with the assessment of information in decision-making processes under time pressure. Interpretation and analysis of information contained within the annual accounts as well as application of principle and rules of eternal accounting 6 5 regular BIB courses B 9 Macroeconomics Learning outcomes and Competences: eplanation of a company s entire economic environment and interaction with corporate activities, abstract thinking through the application of models. Students eplain central aspects of European integration (re European Central Bank). Understanding and Eplanation of news and straightforward specialist articles on all aspects of economics. Ability to compare continental legal systems and common law. Knowledge of the most important methods and instruments used for strategic analysis, planning, implementation and evaluation of marketing measures (Marketing Mi) in order to transfer theoretical models to practical eample applications. 8 Business Studies for Echange Students in English - (undergraduates) I AWE 1 Culture, Politics & Economic Development Course Objectives: - To provide with an understanding concerning the general role of government in business, including the potential positive and negative impacts of state-owned enterprises on broader economic and social development. - To discuss the historical eperience with government f rms in different environments such as in capitalist developed countries, in the former socialist planned economies and, in particular, in the developing countries. - To understand why large-scale privatization efforts often fell short of the public s epectations. - To analyse the most recent trends of a rather unepected renaissance of nationalization activities and state involvement in business of rms and banks in various parts of the world. - To draw conclusions concerning the potential future role of the state as an entrepreneur and active player in markets. - To get used to concrete academic research activities as well as to the oral and written presentation and discussion of research results (intended to prepare for the 2 2 Additional supplementary subjects applicable for echange I AWE 2 Globalisation To provide with a basic understanding of the phenomenon of globalization and its impact on the social, economic and political situation in both, developed and developing countries. To discuss the various challenges faced by societies and national economies in coping with a wide spectrum of globalization-related consequences. 2 2 Additional supplementary subjects applicable for echange I AWE 3 Service Learning - Intercultural learning and eperience Service Learning - Interkulturelles Lernen und Erleben The class provides an introduction to intercultural theories and practical eercises, and serves to intermi domestic and foreign at the HTW. The class will take place all 14 days with theory-units, single working-group-coaching and two ecursions to selected places of interest in Berlin or Potsdam. The achievement test will consist of a presentation of a free-elective subject connected to culture in a small working group. The class will be held in English and German language. 2 2 Additional supplementary subjects applicable for echange German/English Die Veranstaltung enthält ein erstes Kennenlernen von interkulturellen Theorien, praktischen Übungen und dient der Vernetzung von in- und ausländischen Studenten an der HTW. Neben 14-tägigen Theorieeinheiten und Einzelgruppen-Coachings werden zwei gemeinsame Ausflüge zu ausgewählten Zielen in Berlin bzw. Potsdam stattfinden. Der Leistungsnachweis wird aus einer Präsentation eines freigewählten kulturnahen Themas in einer kleinen Arbeitsgruppe bestehen. Die Veranstaltung wird in englischer und deutscher Sprache durchgeführt. Echange Students
