1 Vorläufiges English Programme im akademischen Jahr 2015/2016 Preliminary English Programme in the Academic Year 2015/2016 *for English see below* Im akademischen Jahr 2015/2016 freuen wir uns Ihnen erneut ein Programm mit englischsprachigen Kursen anbieten zu können. Die weiter unten beschriebenen Kurse sind ein Angebot für Austauschstudierende, die sich ihrer Deutschkenntnisse nicht sicher sind oder die deutsche Sprache noch nicht beherrschen. Neben den Kursen aus den wirtschaftswissenschaftlichen Bachelor-Studiengängen haben die Austauschstudierenden die Möglichkeit ihre Deutschkenntnisse mit Hilfe folgender Kurse zu verbessern: Deutsch als Fremdsprache 1, 2 oder 3 sowie Wirtschaftsdeutsch. Es ist auch möglich Kurse aus den englischsprachigen und deutschsprachigen Angeboten zu kombinieren, da die deutschsprachigen Kurse offen für Austauschstudierende sind! Die Austauschstudierenden werden im Studiengang Bachelor International Business Administration (BIBA) eingeschrieben, aber sie dürfen auch Kurse aus den anderen Studiengängen besuchen. In the academic year 2015/2016 we are glad to offer once again a programme with courses taught in English. The courses detailed below are a proposal for students who do not feel safe in the German language or even for those who are not speaking German. Alongside courses of Business Administration the students have the opportunity to improve their German language skills by joining "German as a Foreign Language 1, 2 or 3" and "Business German. It is also possible to combine courses from the English and the German programme, which is of course available for everyone! The Incoming students will be enrolled in the bachelor course International Business Administration (BIBA), but they are allowed to attend courses in the other study programmes, too. 4 Principles of International Management IBS2PIME The aim of this course is to get an overview of general tasks of the International Management. Management and Organisation and Resource Management topics such as the development of the Management, challenges in an international environment will be discussed. The student will be enabled to understand and recognize business challenges and to discuss them in English. *Prerequisites: sufficient knowledge of English and basic knowledge of management issues required Examination: presentation and written assignment International Strategic Leadership HISME The purpose of this master course is to teach students to look at Strategic Change Processes from different viewpoints. 5 Crisis Management in International Mergers and Acquisitions HMAME The need to keep up with a changing environment often dominates the thinking about mergers and acquisitions. The early 1990s saw a wave of mergers in the automobile, brewery, pharmaceuticals, telecommunication, grocery retail sectors and many other industries in Europe and other parts of the world. Problems were encountered and will be accounted in the process of mergers and acquisitions for a number of reasons. This course combines analytic and process views to gauge the complexity of such strategic moves, gives the students an overview of the critical aspects that have an impact on M&As, encourages them to learn from past experience and provides them with a platform for finding solutions for crisis management in this field. Topics to be discussed include: Motives behind mergers and acquisitions Classification of mergers The history of mergers and acquisitions Pre-merger preparation The implementation phase Post-merger integration and management Due diligence Defence mechanisms Lessons to be learned *Prerequisites: Sufficient knowledge of English and good basis in general management theory required Examination: Written exam or presentation and written assignment Communication and Presentation Skills B4CPE This course aims to prepare students for employment by developing an awareness of the interpersonal skills required in the academic area as well as in the international business environment and addresses issues involved in successful career management. Besides providing a theoretical framework, the course entails practical and professional skills which are targeted at students to equip them with analytical and transferable social skills in order to enable them to function effectively at the workplace. Particular emphasis shall be laid on the acquisition of communication skills, facilitation and presentation techniques pertaining to delivering persuasive presentations and team working skills. Training shall also be conducted in order to enhance management competence, especially those personality characteristics such as social competence, organisational competence, emotional intelligence and rhetorical skills which are significant for conducting daily management tasks. 6 International Human Resource Management HIHRE This course focuses on the management of human resources on a global basis. The approach to international Human Resource Management often reflects an organization s international corporate strategy. International human resource managers participate in the international strategic planning process, but usually in a limited way. However, HR managers can and should provide essential advice and input at every step of the traditional strategic management process. An organisation s overall corporate strategy usually determines the approach to managing and staffing subsidiaries: recruitment and selection, training and development, performance evaluation, compensation and benefits, and labour relations are some of the areas that are encompassed within the topic concerned. Finally, because international managers have the ultimate responsibility for managing their human resources, complex issues involved shall be elaborated on and discussed. The importance of understanding International Human Resource Management for personal career development shall also be emphasised. *Prerequisites: Good English (written and oral) communication skills and basic knowledge of management required Examination: Written exam or presentation and written assignment

7 Computer-aided Management Accounting and Finance and Controlling B4CMAFE Learning objectives: The course deals with special issues of management accounting and financial control. The students will mainly use case-studies. They get reading assignments and templates. Solutions will be presented by the students. Students have to practice several tasks with standard software. General project management skills will be taught. 8 Management Control Systems M2MCSE Goals of Competency: The master course deals with managerial aspects of accounting. Using problems and cases, students will understand how management accounting is used as a management tool for decision making and control. The textbook used is: Zimmerman, J.: Accounting for decision making and control. There will be a sufficient number of copies of the textbook in the library. Please be aware, that either of the available editions is OK for use in class. 9 German as a Foreign Language 1 SPDE German for foreign students with basic knowledge. This course appeals to those international students who have little or no knowledge of the German language. The course is conducted with 4 LPW (60 lesson hours per semester) as Level 1 of the United European Frame of Reference for languages. The course offers the students the possibility to acquire basic knowledge of the German language to be able to communicate in everyday situations. The skills of auditory and reading comprehension along with written and speaking skills will be trained in the duration of this course. In the foreground of this course stands communication that is used in everyday life. Topics of this course will be: To greet and bid farewell to people, to make suggestions and express intent, ask for directions, go shopping, prepare for doctor visits, and to agree on appointments and meetings. Prerequisites: none Examination: exam German as a Foreign Language 2 SPDE German for foreign students with already basic knowledge in speaking and writing. Prerequisites: slightly advanced knowledge of German Examination: exam German as a Foreign Language 3 SPDE German for foreign students with good knowledge in speaking and writing. Es wird viel aktiv gesprochen und diskutiert und auch das schriftliche Deutsch wird verbessert. Prerequisites: advanced knowledge of German Examination: written exam (1 hour) Business English II Bachelor of Business Administration (BWL) SPE Contained in the course are select themes from four core areas of operations Production, Marketing, Accounting, Personnel with its corresponding technical terms and documents. This course places students in a position to verbally be able to work within companies with a foreign language and to be able to understand written text and to be able to express oneself within the context of the foreign language. Prerequisites: English test will be done at the beginning of the semester Examination: exam Business English II Bachelor of International Business Administration SPEW (BIBA) The module offers an initiation and subsequent deepening in the field of annual financial statements and in the underlying areas of management accounting. One should learn the terminology and linguistic possibilities for the representation and description of these fields. For this purpose, depending on the requirements, corresponding linguistic structures will be introduced and linguistic rules will be repeated.
