12 12 Chapter 2 NetVault: Backup Architecture Overview The NetVault: Backup Server must be deployed first, followed by the individual Clients. This arrangement of a single NetVault: Backup Server and its associated Clients constitutes a NetVault: Backup Domain Architecture Components A NetVault: Backup deployment consists of the following components: NetVault: Backup Server The NetVault: Backup Server is the main component of the NetVault: Backup solution. It provides for the job management, media management, device management, client management, reporting, notifications and logging. The NetVault: Backup Server maintains a history of backups in the NetVault database, enabling users to quickly identify which file, database instance or storage group they want to restore. Stand-alone tape drives or tape libraries may be attached directly to the NetVault: Backup Server. The NetVault: Backup Server software is installed on each of the machines designated as a NetVault: Backup Server. NetVault: Backup Clients NetVault: Backup Clients are basically the file servers, database servers, or mail servers you need to protect. NetVault: Backup Clients are managed by the NetVault: Backup Server and transfers the backup/restore data across the LAN/WAN. NetVault: Backup Clients can be any number of Windows, Linux, Mac OS X, or UNIX machines. NetVault: Backup Client software is installed on each of the machines designated as a NetVault: Backup Client. Additionally one or more Application Plugin Modules or Plugins can be installed on any of the NetVault: Backup Client machines. NetVault: Backup SmartClients NetVault: Backup SmartClients are NetVault: Backup Clients with one or more locally-attached tape drives or tape libraries which may be physical or virtual. SmartClients can share tape drives with a NetVault: Backup Server, NAS Device, and other SmartClients. SmartClients speed up the backup process by allowing the data stream to flow directly to the attached storage device rather than being slowed down by traveling across the network.

13 NetVault: Backup 13 Installation/Upgrade Guide Figure 2-2: NetVault: Backup Clients and SmartClients Figure 2-3: NetVault: Backup VTL Virtual Tape Library A Virtual Tape Library (VTL) is a user configured tape library on a disk subsystem to allow Disk to Disk (D2D) backups, and ultimately Disk to Disk to Tape (D2D2T) backups. Virtual Tape Libraries allow users to run simultaneous backups from multiple clients to the same disk device which reduces backup windows. Additionally, a Virtual Tape Library speeds up restores because the backup is stored on random access drives as apposed to reading the backup from sequential tape. Shared Virtual Tape Library A Shared Virtual Tape Library (SVTL) allows multiple NetVault: Backup Clients of varying operating systems to share same raw disk for LAN-free backups via Fibre Channel or iscsi.

14 14 Chapter 2 NetVault: Backup Architecture Overview NDMP The Network Data Management Protocol (NDMP) is designed to efficiently transfer large blocks of data across a LAN or SAN to a storage device. For Network Attached Storage devices utilizing NDMP, backups are performed via a high performance protocol rather than using less efficient file sharing method such as NFS or CIFS. NetVault: Backup can send NDMP data directly to a locally attached SCSI device, a SAN-attached storage device (tape or VTL) or to a storage device elsewhere on the network. NetVault: Backup offers advanced NDMP features such as Browsable Volume and Direct Access Restore (DAR) support, which helps restore files quickly by fast positioning to the required data on the storage device (tape or VTL). Files can be selected and restored at the directory level. NDMP is the only truly serverless backup technology. Dynamically Shared Devices Dynamically Shared Devices (DSD) is LAN-free backup at its best by allowing more than one system to utilize a tape drive connected to a Fiber Channel SAN, IP SAN using iscsi. Tape drives (Physical or Virtual) are dynamically assigned on demand to any SmartClient, NDMP device, or NetVault: Backup Server for duration of the backup/restore. Application Plugin Modules NetVault: Backup supports Application Plugin Modules (APMs) for online backups for a wide variety of database and messaging applications - such as Oracle, SQL Server, Exchange, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Lotus Notes/Domino, DB2, Informix, and Sybase. With the APMs, NetVault: Backup servers and clients can be enhanced to perform application specific backups. Interfacing with the native APIs, NetVault: Backup draws data from the applications and catalogs backup data according to application type: all in a simple point-andclick manner, within NetVault: Backup's GUI.

15 NetVault: Backup 15 Installation/Upgrade Guide Chapter 3: PRE-INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS This chapter describes the pre-installation requirements for the NetVault: Backup system. The information in this chapter is organized into the following topics: Planning New Installations Determine NetVault: Backup Server and Client Machines Determine NetVault: Backup Database (NVDB) Location Determine NetVault: Backup Machine Names Prerequisites Platform Specific Prerequisites Additional Requirements on Linux-based Systems Additional Notes 3.1 Planning New Installations Review this section when planning a new NetVault: Backup system Determine NetVault: Backup Server and Client Machines Installation of NetVault: Backup involves installing a NetVault: Backup Server and any number of NetVault: Backup Clients. The NetVault: Backup Server must be deployed first, with the Server version of NetVault: Backup installed there, followed by each individual Client. Therefore, the first step in the operation is to determine which machine will serve as the NetVault: Backup Server, and which machines will be NetVault: Backup Clients: NetVault: Backup Server - This machine will house the Server version of NetVault: Backup and it will accessed to manage all NetVault: Backup operations (i.e., administer backup and recovery operations for any number of NetVault: Backup Clients). NetVault: Backup Client(s) - Each of these machines will house the Client version of NetVault: Backup and each will serve as backup/restore targets.

16 16 Chapter 3 Pre-installation Requirements Important: Once established, a NetVault: Backup Server can serve as a Client unto itself (i.e., the Server can be accessed and backups/restores of its own local data can be performed) Determine NetVault: Backup Database (NVDB) Location With the machine that is to serve as the NetVault: Backup Server determined, the next step is to choose a directory on a drive/volume with enough free space to house NetVault: Backup and its database. The typical NetVault: Backup Server installation requires about 50MB of free disk space. However, the NVDB will grow as operations are performed in NetVault: Backup (e.g., backups, restores and reports generated). It is critical that space considerations be made for the growing of this database. NetVault: Backup operations could halt if its database can not be updated due to space limitations. When the NetVault: Backup Server software is installed, the installation includes a NVDB directory (db or nvdb) containing four sub-directories: Install - Very small directory. Contains the modules binary file detailing which modules are installed). Keys - Very small directory. Contains license key files for the main software and any plugins or APMs installed. MediaDatabase - This directory grows to be rather large with use of NetVault: Backup. Holds records for media and backups performed. ScheduleDatabase - Small directory (generally less than 10 MB in size) Holds records for all backup and restore jobs). The only portion of the database for which size requirements are an issue is the MediaDatabase. The NetVault: Backup Administrator of a particular NetVault: Backup domain must estimate the anticipated size of the database to allocate adequate disk space for growth. To calculate these requirements, the following information is necessary: The Approximate Number of Files and Directories Being Backed Up in the NetVault: Backup Domain (i.e., on the NetVault: Backup Server and all NetVault: Backup Clients). Important: Each file and directory backed up requires an average number of bytes for an index entry in the NVDB. This average is based on a formula of 71 bytes plus the average number of characters contained in the files that make up a target file system. How Many Generations of Each File are Being Kept - Each generation is a separate instance of a file or directory backup. For example, if the same file is backed up seven times, using default backup settings, there are seven

17 NetVault: Backup 17 Installation/Upgrade Guide generations of the file held on media and indexed in the NVDB. By default, backups have an infinite life (i.e., the number of generations increases for every backup, causing the NVDB to continuously grow in size). Most systems cannot handle this amount of storage requirement, so one of the NetVault: Backup Administrator's tasks is to ensure that a suitable Backup Life is applied to each backup (a setting found in the Advanced Options tab of the Backup window). For more information on Backup Life, refer to the NetVault: Backup Administrator s Guide a Example Calculation With an average file/directory name of eight characters for a target file system, if 200,000 files and 15,000 directories were backed up once, approximately 17.5 MB will be required for NVDB indexing. If the same files and directories were backed up three times, 52.5 MB would be required. If backed up 5 times, 87.5 MB would be required, and so on. Database Size Calculation Formula Approximate number of files and directories backed up per machine Multiplied by Approximate number of generations to be kept using Backup Life options a Multiplied by Number of machines backed up Multiplied by (71 bytes + average file name length b ) b NVDB Index Entry Size Limitations A single NVDB index entry is generated for each NetVault: Backup backup job created/submitted. It is important to note that NetVault: Backup must adhere to a maximum size requirement of four Gigabytes (4 GB) for each of these individual index entries. Index entries of this size will only occur with very large jobs (e.g., a backup job that contains a few million files and directories). If a backup job is run that requires an index entry larger than this maximum, it will most likely fail. Therefore it is recommended that large jobs requiring the backup of a few million files be broken down into multiple jobs to avoid this. For complete details on backing up data, refer to the NetVault: Backup Administrator s Guide Determine NetVault: Backup Machine Names During the installation process of the NetVault: Backup software (regardless of installation type (e.g., Client vs. Server) or Operating System platform), it is necessary to input a NetVault: Backup name for the machine. This name is used in NetVault: Backup for the purpose of recognizing it over the network. Hence, each NetVault: Backup Client must have a unique name. At default, a value will be displayed matching the machine s Operating System-tied name. With this in mind, the following should be taken into consideration:

18 18 Chapter 3 Pre-installation Requirements Important: It is of critical importance that the following points be reviewed in order to properly name a NetVault: Backup Server/Client for complete use. Illegal Characters in a Machine Name - Although the core software will still function regardless of how the machine is named, certain aspects of NetVault: Backup may not function properly when the NetVault: Backup machine name includes any of the following characters: Non-Number/Letter Alpha-Numeric Characters - This # $ % ^ & * ( ) as well as the colon ( : ), and hyphen ( - ). Japanese/Korean/Chinese Characters Important: It is highly recommended that only the following characters be used when generating a NetVault: Backup machine name: standard uppercase characters (e.g., A - Z ), standard lowercase characters (e.g., a - z ), and standard numerals (e.g., 0-9 ). Underscore Character in a Machine Name - It is possible to use an underscore ( _ ) in the name of a NetVault: Backup machine (e.g., as a substitute for a space -- NVBU_Server, or to replace any of the illegal characters named in the point above). However, conflicts will arise when referencing a machine named in this manner in NetVault: Backup s Command Line Interface (CLI). The CLI sees the use of an underscore in its syntax as a replacement for a space, because a space is not recognized. For example, if a machine whose actual name is NVBU_Server is included in a CLI command, NetVault: Backup will, in reality, search for a machine named NVBU Server. Not finding a machine named this, the CLI request will fail and return an error. Therefore, if the CLI is to be used with the target machine, it is recommended that the machine be given a name that does not include any underscore characters. NetVault: Backup Client Systems must be Given Different Names - When performing a Client version install of NetVault: Backup, you must assign a unique name value for each Client system a Best Practice When performing an installation to establish the NetVault: Backup Server, it is recommended that the NetVault: Backup name used be different than the machine s O/S-tied name. As a recommended example, use a name value signifying that the machine is the NetVault: Backup Server. This is recommended in case it is ever necessary to relocate the NetVault: Backup Server to a different machine (e.g., because of hardware failure). In relocating a NetVault: Backup Server, a backup of the NetVault: Backup Server Database (NVDB) is required.

19 NetVault: Backup 19 Installation/Upgrade Guide The NVDB is integral to NetVault: Backup operations and is tied to the NetVault: Backup Server via its NetVault: Backup name. If relocating, a fresh installation of the Server version of NetVault: Backup would be required on the new machine, followed by a restore of the backed up NVDB to this new machine. During the installation, the NetVault: Backup name assigned must be the same as the name used for the original installation, in order to successfully proceed to the restore of the NVDB. Therefore, if the original NetVault: Backup Server was named using the default setting of it s O/S-tied name, the relocation target s installation of NetVault: Backup would have to be named using this same O/S-generated name, even though its actual machine name is something different. This could result in confusion when performing future backups and restores, especially if the machine previously set up as the NetVault: Backup Server is ever brought back on line. For details on relocation of the NVDB, refer to the NetVault: Backup Administrator s Guide. 3.2 Prerequisites The following requirements must be met before starting a NetVault: Backup Server or Client installation. Review Release Notes and Supported Platform Matrix Prior to initiating an installation of NetVault: Backup, it is of critical importance that you thoroughly review the Release Notes. This document may contain important information regarding installation and use of the NetVault: Backup software. You must also review the NetVault: Backup Supported Platform Matrix to verify the platforms, operating system versions, devices and application versions supported by the current release of NetVault: Backup. NetVault: Backup Graphic Requirements To properly use the NetVault: Backup GUI, it is recommended that you set your system s screen resolution to 1280 x 1024 or higher. Low resolution settings may result in display issues when using the GUI. Permissions All target machines must have O/S permissions set that will allow the user to install software components. System Memory Memory requirements on a target system can vary based on the intended use: User Mode (Runlevel) On Linux/UNIX platforms, boot into runlevel 3 (multi-user mode). Disable Anit-virus Software While it is possible to leave anti-virus software running on a target machine, it is recommended that you disable this software, before attempting to perform an installation or upgrade of NetVault: Backup. The NetVault: Backup installation process may conflict with antivirus software during installation and various NetVault: Backup operations may not function properly after the installation.

Check Backup Device Mapping/Connections It is necessary to determine what backup devices are to be used (e.g., tape libraries and standalone drives) and map them out. Generally, the NetVault: Backup Server is set up to contain one or more of these devices (i.e., they are directly attached to the machine acting as the NetVault: Backup Server). However, this is not required and a usable backup device can be attached to a machine configured as a NetVault: Backup Client. This is referred to as a NetVault: Backup SmartClient TM. It is also important to ensure that these devices are connected and functional and that backups can be performed to them (e.g., through the use of any native O/S tools used for minimal backup operations on the device. If these native backup tools can't see an attached backup device, then neither will NetVault: Backup) Configure ulimit Variables (Linux/UNIX Platforms Only) UNIX-based O/Ss utilize a default setting for various size limitations that may create a conflict when attempting to install NetVault: Backup (e.g., the file size (blocks) and virtual memory (kbytes) settings, which may use a default setting that is too low). Failure to increase these values from their default may result in a core dump error message and a failed installation of various NetVault: Backup components. A recommended setting of unlimited is suggested to remedy this issue. To accomplish this, launch a terminal session and perform these steps: 1. Issue the command: ulimit -a

If the values for either of the following settings are anything other than unlimited, issue the following command to change the setting accordingly: File Size (Blocks) ulimit unlimited Virtual Memory (Kbytes) ulimit -v unlimited 3. Issue the command ulimit -a to re-list these statistics after modification to verify that they are properly set. 3.3 Platform Specific Prerequisites AIX On AIX load the NetVault SCSI Driver contained in the file image as described below: On AIX 5.x, use the SMIT utility to load the NetVault SCSI Driver. On AIX 6.1, issue the following command to install the AIX5changer (assuming the binary is in /tmp): installp -acqd /tmp/aix5changer netvault.chm Then, issue the following command to automatically search and configure the media changer: /usr/lpp/netvault/addchm Asian Linux 3 (64-bit) To install and run NetVault: Backup v8.2 on a 64-bit Asian Linux 3 machine, you must create the following symbolic link as Asian Linux 3 does not use libxm.so.3 anymore ln -s /usr/lib/libxm.so /usr/lib/libxm.so Debian 4.0 (64-bit) Before starting the installation, perform the following steps: 1. Install ia32-libs and then issue the command ldconfig on this system 2. Download the i386 version of libmotif3 from and then use dpkg -x libmotif3 to extract. 3. Copy all extracted files in usr/x11r6/lib to /usr/lib FreeBSD 7 (32-bit) To install and run the FreeBSD NetVault 8.2 distribution on a FreeBSD 7 platform create two symbolic links on your target machine using the following commands: ln -s /lib/libcam.so.4 /usr/lib/libcam.so.3

The NetVault: Backup installation script tries to delete the existing contents on the mount point (which isn t allowed in a UNIXbased environment) and the installation will fail. To work-around this issue, create a sub-directory below the mount point, and install NetVault: Backup to that directory RHEL 4 Itanium The openmotif rhel4.4.ia64.rpm package located on disc 4 of the RHEL 4, U1 ia64 installation CDs, must be installed on all DR Client machines running this O/S. A standard installation of this O/S may not request this CD, so the component may not be present. To install the component, follow the steps below: 1. Insert CD 4 into the drive on the target DR Client, and launch a terminal session prompt. 2. Note that the requirements mentioned in this section of the guide are not prerequisites to installing NetVault: Backup. The installation script will run without interruption, installing the software to the specified directory, even if these required packages are not available on the system. However, the NetVault installation will not run if these dependencies are not present on the system.

A standard installation of RedHat or SUSE Linux will include the packages containing the required files by default. For customized installations of Linux, however, the availability of the following files must be ensured. Important: The various distributions of Linux might have slight differences. As a result of which the list given here is only representative a b X Window System Shared Libraries These libraries provide the GUI functionality. On Linux systems running NetVault: Backup, the following X Window System shared library files must be available. libice.so.6 libsm.so.6 libx11.so.6 libxext.so.6 libxp.so.6 libxt.so.6 Shared C Libraries These libraries provide the standard library functions, including the system calls. On Linux systems running NetVault: Backup, the following shared C libraries must be available. libc.so.6 libdl.so.2 linux-gate.so.1 (a virtual shared library that is exported by the kernel to provide a way to make system calls faster) Finding the Missing Packages As mentioned earlier, on systems that do not have the above-mentioned packages NetVault: Backup will not start after installation. Decompress this file to the desired directory, navigate to this directory and locate the following file: <Decompressed Files Directory>\install.exe Important: The decompressed files directory will contain two executables, setup.exe and install.exe. To support the use of all language formats, ensure that the install.exe file is used to initiate the installation. For English version, select setup.exe. Using what was established during the prerequisite phase, process each window s request and click on the Next button to continue. 4. When confronted with the window asking for the type of installation, select the Server radio button and click on the Next button to continue with the installation process.

40 40 Chapter 4 NetVault: Backup Server Installation Important: For a detailed explanation of the windows offered in this wizard, refer to the section Example Installation on a Windows-based System on page Platform Specific Post-installation Requirements Debian 3.1 and Ubuntu 7.04 The following steps must be performed on these operating systems after installation: 1. While logged in as the root-level user, initiate a terminal session prompt. 2. Issue the following commands in succession: # update-rc.d netvault defaults 99 mkdir /var/lock/subsys Solaris 10 Important: This procedure is only required for Solaris 10 machines that have a backup device directly attached to it. If performing an installation of NetVault: Backup to a machine that does not control a device, this process can be skipped. Library devices directly attached to a Solaris 10 system require that you configure/ use the sgen driver utility in order to completely add the library device to the NetVault: Backup Server (e.g., in order for the NetVault: Backup Server to access the library device s robotic arm when a user adds a library). It is strongly recommended that you accommodate for this issue, prior to installing Follow the steps below to accomplish this: 1. Log in to the machine to which the device is directly attached and launch a terminal session. Ensure that the device is recognized by the operating system, by inputting the following commands: cfgadm -al cfgadm -al -o show_fcp_dev XX:WWN cfgadm -o force_update -c unconfigure/configure XX or XX:WWN or XX:WWN:LUN 2. From the terminal session prompt, navigate to the following directory: /kernel/drv/ 3. In this directory, locate the file sgen.conf and open it for editing. Ensure that the sgen driver is configured to attach to the target device (e.g., the sgen line of this file should look similar to the folowing:

Editing the sgen.conf file may require that you reboot the target system 4. Validate that the sgen driver has successfully created the necessary device files by: Step 1: Checking to ensure that the /devices directory exists: /devices/pci@7c,0/pci1022,7458@2/pci1077,1401/fp@0,0 /sgen@w cc4c8m0 Step 2: Check to ensure that the /dev/scsi/changer directory contains the appropriate files and these files have been properly associated to the target device: /dev/scsi/changer/c2t cc4c8m0d0 5. Create a symbolic link in the /dev directory for the NetVault: Backup device file associated with the hardware path used in the /dev/scsi/changer directory: ln -s /devices/pci@7c,0/pci1022,7458@2/pci1077,1401/ fp@0,0 /sgen@w cc4c8m0 /dev/nv0 6. Validate that the symbolic link was successfully created, and that it has the correct permissions, by issuing the following command from the prompt: /dev/nv0 -> pci@7c,0/pci1022,7458@2/pci1077,1401/fp@0,0 /sgen@w cc4c8m0,0:changer Windows Important: This procedure is only required for a Microsoft Windows system that has a backup device directly attached to it. If the installation target does not control a device, this process can be skipped. On Windows, the locally-attached backup devices must not be under the control of the Windows Removable Storage service. You must disable the Windows Remote Storage Manager on the machine. To remove devices from this service, perform the following steps:

Boot the Windows machine and log in as an Administrator-level user (i.e., logged on as the standard Administrator account or an account with this same level of access). 2. From the desktop after successful boot, right-click on the My Computer icon and choose the Manage command from the pop-up menu that appears in order to access the Computer Management window. 3. Navigate through each level of the tree until the desired device is displayed. 4. Right-click on the device and choose Properties from the pop-up menu. 5. In the Properties dialog box that is revealed, and the General tab selected, click on the Enable library checkbox in order to de-select it. 6. Click Apply to set the change, and then OK to exit the dialog box.

43 NetVault : Backup 43 Installation/Upgrade Guide 4.10 Example Installation on a Linux/UNIX-based System The section below details the prompts that will be offered once an installation of NetVault: Backup has been properly executed on a Linux/UNIX-based operating system (O/S). This example pertains to the following supported O/S: AIX HP-UX Itanium Linux (all versions) MP-RAS Solaris Important: This section only details the prompts that are offered once an installation has been executed on a Linux/UNIX-based machine. For complete details on the steps required to initiate an installation, please see the relevant operating system s section outlining this procedure in this chapter. Figure 4-4: The first prompt revealed when performing an installation of NetVault: Backup 1. The first prompt will ask for acceptance of NetVault: Backup s License Agreement. The following selections can be input: Y - for Yes, the agreement is accepted. The installation process will continue (i.e., the license agreement will not be displayed). N - for No, that it is not accepted and the installation process will quit. D - for Display of the license agreement information so that it can be read. This is the default for this prompt. If this option is selected, the NetVault: Backup License Agreement will be displayed in sections with a percentage value shown at the bottom of the screen. This value accounts for how much of the agreement has been displayed. Each time the Enter key is pressed, more of the agreement will be displayed and this value will increase. Continuously holding down the Enter key will scroll through the entire agreement, and end with the next prompt.

The following selections are available: C (Default Selection) - This refers to a Client installation of NetVault: Backup. With this type of installation the machine will be set up to serve as a client of the NetVault: Backup Server (i.e., its data can be backed up under the control of a NetVault: Backup Server). This machine will either need to be added to an existing NetVault: Backup Server or use its GUI to access the Domain Management window and select an existing NetVault: Backup Server to act as its domain manager. This installation offers for the quickest install and requires a lesser amount of space on the target machine. S - This refers to a Server installation of NetVault: Backup. The recipient machine can then be configured to regulate the backup of all NetVault: Backup machines that are later added to it (i.e., NetVault: Backup Clients). With this installation a little more space is required as the NetVault: Backup Server software requires a directory to house the NVDB -- a database that contains all relevant information pertaining to NetVault: Backup operations.

With the installation type selected, the next prompt requests the user to input a desired installation directory for NetVault: Backup. The default installation directory [/usr/netvault] ( [/opt/netvault] on Solaris machines) can be selected by hitting the Enter key. This directory will be automatically created and the installation will reside there. Otherwise, a directory can be manually input for use. Important: If selecting a directory other than the default, this directory must exist prior to installation. The installation software will not automatically create a directory. Figure 4-8: The NVDB location prompt 4. If a Server ( S ) installation of NetVault: Backup was selected, the next prompt will request a location for the NVDB. The default directory, /usr/netvault/db ( /opt/netvault/db on Solaris machines) can be used by pressing the Enter key. The directory will be automatically created, and the NVDB file will be created therein. Otherwise, a desired directory can be manually input. Important: As with the installation directory, when selecting a directory other than the default for the NVDB, this directory must exist prior to installation. The next prompt asks for a NetVault: Backup name for this installation. The name is how this machine will be recognized by other NetVault: Backup machines on the network. The default value offered is the current machine s actual system name. This can be used by simply hitting the Enter key. Prior to selecting a name, refer to the section review the section Determine NetVault: Backup Machine Names on page The next prompt requests that the user input a password value for this installation of NetVault: Backup. This password value is associated with the given NetVault: Backup name and is used to allow/limit access to it by other NetVault: Backup machines (e.g., if this machine is to be added to

After input once, a second request will appear asking the user to input this same password a second time for verification. 7. With all necessary values properly input, the installation process will begin as files are extracted and installed. Upon completion, the last displayed message in the terminal will state this fact and return the user to the directory prompt which contains the installation files. NetVault: Backup is now successfully installed and ready for use Example Installation on a Windows-based System This section cover the installation wizard that appears once the install.exe file has been properly launched on a Windows-based operating system. Important: This section only details the actual installation wizard and not the steps required to initiate a Windows-based O/S install. For complete details on these steps, please see the relevant operating system s section outlining this procedure. The Setup Wizard, described in step 2, is the first window that appears when setup.exe is run. With the License Agreement accepted, the next window to appear is Choose Installation Type. From this window select the desired type of installation (e.g., Client vs. Server) and click on the Next button to continue (for more information on the differences between a Client and Server installation, see Step 2., of the section Example Installation on a UNIX-based O/S on page 44).

The next window to appear is the Select Installation Folder window. Here, the desired directory for the NetVault: Backup Installation can be set. In addition to a field that allows for the manual input of this information (e.g., the Folder field), various other options are made available:

The next window to appear is the Select NetVault Databse Folder window. In this window, type the name of the directory in which NVDB will be stored, or navigate to the directory name using the Browse button. Click on Next to proceed. Important: 1. If a directory other than the default is selected as a location to house the NVDB, this directory must exist prior to installation. If a non-existent directory is input in this field, NetVault: Backup will not automatically create it and the installation will fail. 2. The Select NetVault Database Folder window only appears when installing NetVault: Backup on the NetVault: Backup Server. You will not be prompted to select a NVBD folder if you are installing NetVault: Backup on a client. 63 5.10 Platform Specific Post-installation Requirements Debian 3.1 NetVault : Backup 63 Installation/Upgrade Guide The following steps must be performed on these operating systems after installation: 1. While logged in as the root-level user, initiate a terminal session prompt. 2. This is required because the /var/lock folder resides on a temporary file system on Ubuntu and gets emptied each time the operating system is shut down. 1. Open the file /usr/netvault/etc/startup.sh. 2. 64 64 Chapter 5 NetVault: Backup Client Installation Solaris x86-x86-64 If the Client machine has a locally attached library device that will be added to the NetVault: Backup Server for use (i.e., the Client is to be configured as a NetVault: Backup SmartClientTM), you must follow the process outlined in the section, Solaris 10 on page 40 in order to properly configure the library s robotic arm changer device Windows On Windows, the locally-attached backup devices must not be under the control of the Windows Removable Storage service. You must disable the Windows Remote Storage Manager on the machine. For details on this post-installation requirement on Windows, refer to Windows on page 41.

65 NetVault : Backup 65 Installation/Upgrade Guide Chapter 6: UPGRADING NETVAULT: BACKUP This chapter describes how to perform an upgrade. Post-upgrade Requirement on Solaris 10 NetVault: Backup Server Known Upgrade Issues 6.1 Upgrade Overview Upgrading is a relatively simple procedure, but a few general rules apply to all version upgrades: A NetVault: Backup Server can only support Clients of the same version as itself, or older. It can not, however, support Clients running a newer version of the software. When upgrading, it is critical that the NetVault: Backup Server be upgraded before upgrading any NetVault: Backup Clients. If using NetVault: Backup s Domain Management functionality to remotely manage an instance of the NetVault: Backup Server, the machine controlling it will require an upgrade as well.

66 66 Chapter 6 Upgrading NetVault: Backup Important: Of the points made above, all are important, but it is critical that the NetVault: Backup Server be upgraded first, before any Clients. 6.2 Pre-upgrade Procedures To protect from an upgrade failure, it is very important to first perform the following operations in the existing installation of NetVault: Backup Backup the Existing NVDB The first step in preparing for an upgrade is to perform a backup of the existing NVDB. In the event that an upgrade is unsuccessful, the previous version of NetVault: Backup can be reinstalled, and this backup of the database can be recovered to allow for troubleshooting of the failed upgrade (i.e., without interfering with an existing backup schedule). For details on a backup of the NVDB with the NetVault Databases Plugin, refer to NetVault: Backup Administrator s Guide. Important: After the successful recovery of the NVDB, all details pertaining to all previous logs will be stored in the logs_restored_<yyyymmdd> library (i.e., where <YYYYMMDD> pertains to date information, in the format YearMonthDate ) Stopping NetVault: Backup Processes Before upgrading, it is necessary to close the NetVault: Backup Configurator. If NetVault: Backup detects that any of its processes are running during an upgrade, the upgrade will fail and the user will get an error message referring to the output of a pre-install script. If this occurs, close the NetVault: Backup Configurator and re-attempt the upgrade Removing Extraneous NetVault: Backup Installation Files Important: This pre-requisite only applies to upgrades from version NetVault: Backup v7.1.1 included a file entitled pchxxxx.npk that was used to properly update earlier installations (where XXXX will vary based on the O/S in use on the target machine). When v7.1.1 is installed, this file is placed in the following directory (where... refers to the complete path to the NetVault: Backup installation directory):.../netvault: Backup/packages During an upgrade, NetVault: Backup will attempt to automatically add any previously installed.npk files, as it locates them. As a result, this file will be loaded and NetVault: Backup will appear to upgrade successfully. However, when

67 NetVault : Backup 67 Installation/Upgrade Guide attempting to launch the NetVault: Backup GUI, an error message will be launched and the NetVault: Backup GUI will be inaccessible. Therefore, it is necessary to manually remove any files entitled pchsxxxx.npk from this directory before attempting an upgrade to version Disabling Anti-Virus Software While it is possible to leave anti-virus software running on a target machine, it is recommended that you disable this software, before attempting to perform an upgrade of NetVault: Backup. The NetVault: Backup installation process may conflict with anti-virus software during installation and various NetVault: Backup operations may not function properly after the installation. 6.3 Upgrade Procedure The following sections detail the procedures involved in upgrading NetVault: Backup. Important: If the current version of NetVault: Backup is already installed on your machine, running the install.exe again will result in NetVault: Backup being completely removed (i.e. important NetVault components such as the NetVault Database) Upgrading from v7.x and Later Versions Based on the operating system in use, run the install program as usual. The installation software will scan the system for an existing installation of NetVault: Backup and once found, a prompt will appear noting that NetVault: Backup is already installed. The install program will ask to upgrade the existing version to the latest version. Once confirmed, the upgrade procedure will begin and use the existing directories for the current installation (e.g.,.../netvault: Backup6/ for older upgrade installations, and.../netvault: Backup/ for 7.x and later installations) Upgrading from Earlier Versions If using a version of NetVault: Backup earlier than 7.x (e.g., versions 6.5.x and earlier), it is not possible to perform a straight upgrade to the latest version. It is first necessary to successfully upgrade the system to either version or 7.3.1, and then perform a second upgrade to the latest version. Contact BakBone Technical Support for information on obtaining the necessary software to perform a successful upgrade. Important: If an additional upgrade to version or is required, all of the previous pre-requisite procedures must be performed prior to performing this upgrade, and again when performing the second upgrade to the latest version.

68 68 Chapter 6 Upgrading NetVault: Backup 6.4 Post Upgrade Procedure A backup taken of an earlier version of the NVDB cannot be restored to the new version because the database will have changed format after upgrade. However, all pre-existing data contained within the database, pre-upgrade will still be present after a successful upgrade. Therefore, it is highly recommended that a backup of this newly updated version of the NVDB be the first job performed, so a valid fail safe will be available Post-Upgrade NVDB Summary 1. Backup the NVBD To preserve its contents in the event of a failed upgrade (i.e., this backup can then be re-applied to a repair installation of the old version of NetVault: Backup). 2. Run the Install Program to Perform the Upgrade 3. Backup the New NVDB To create a fail safe backup image of the newly created version of the database Does the System Require a Reboot After Upgrade? Once all of the preceding procedures have been completed and NetVault: Backup is opened, if it starts successfully, the upgrade can be assumed to have been successful. If NetVault: Backup will not start then a reboot should be performed Post-upgrade Requirement on Solaris 10 NetVault: Backup Server Important: This section is applicable only if you are upgrading from or an earlier version. The newer versions of NetVault: Backup use the Solaris supplied SGEN device driver to connect to all library changers robotic devices. Older versions (ver and earlier) of NetVault: Backup use a native component, nvdriver to perform this communication. After upgrading from or previous builds you must complete one of the following additional processes to convert your existing devices to the new SGEN Drive. Important: BakBone Software recommends that you employ Method 1, as this provides a more resilient and future proof solution. Method 1: Remove Existing Devices and All Jobs that Target the Removed Devices - As the title states, you must remove any devices in use, and then delete any existing jobs that target these devices. While this method presents the most overall work, it offers the best overall solution to the issue. It offers the easiest method for adding additional backup devices in the future

69 NetVault : Backup 69 Installation/Upgrade Guide (i.e., once you have converted to the SGEN device driver in place of NetVault: Backup s driver, you will be able to easily add new devices using the NetVault: Backup GUI). To properly use this method, follow the steps outlined below: 1. Perform a complete backup of the existing NVDB on the Solaris 10 NetVault: Backup Server that is to be upgraded. 2. Access the Job Management window and thoroughly review all pertinent jobs that target any devices that are currently under the control of this NetVault: Backup Server. Make note of all settings and options. 3. With all settings noted, delete all existing jobs that target devices controlled by this NetVault: Backup Server. 4. Access the Device Management window of the GUI. Remove all devices that are currently under the control of this NetVault: Backup Server. 5. Upgrade to latest NetVault: Backup Server software on the target Solaris 10 system. 6. Stop NetVault: Backup services (i.e., using the NetVault: Backup Configurator). 7. Navigate to the following directory on the Solaris 10 system (where... refers to the complete path to the installation of NetVault: Backup):...\NetVault: Backup\config 8. Locate the scsi.cfg file and open it for editing with a text editor. Locate the [SCSI] stanza, and edit it to appear as follows: [SCSI] Use NV driver=false Important: If the [SCSI] stanza is all that exists in the scsi.cfg file, you can simply delete this file to obtain the necessary result. However if any other entries exist in this file, it must remain in the...\netvault: Backup\config directory (and you must edit the file to appear as outlined above). 9. Navigate to the following directory: /kernel/drv/ 10.Locate the sgen.conf file and open it with a text editor. Edit the file to appear as follows. Lines shown below, prefaced with a # are existing lines in the file. Locate each and preface it with a # in order to leave it in the file, but have NetVault: Backup ignore the entry. Method 2: Edit the sgen.conf file to Include Applicable Devices - Overall, this is the shortest method to employ. However, it only accommodates those devices that are currently under the control of the NetVault: Backup Server (i.e., if you need to add additional devices to the NetVault: Backup Server at a later date, they will not be automatically recognized by the software, and additional configuration steps would be required). This method also presents a potential risk because if the machine is re-configured, the links that are manually created here may be lost, preventing NetVault: Backup from detecting the devices. 1. Log in to the existing Solaris 10 NetVault: Backup Server, using an account with at least super-user level access. 2. Stop NetVault: Backup services (i.e., using the NetVault: Backup Configurator) 3. Open a terminal session and issue the following command to list the current NetVault: Backup driver entries: ls -l /dev/nv* 4. The resulting output will appear, similar to the following for each device: /dev/nv42 ->../devices/pci@1c,600000/scsi@2,1/ nv@5,0:42 The last segment of information reveals /nv@5,0:42. This information consists of the SCSI ID - 5, the LUN value - 0, and the device instance number Record all of these values for each device revealed. 5. Determine which of the identified devices are actually in use by using the prtconf command: prtconf grep nv, grep <device instance number> If a value of nv, instance <device instance number> is returned, the device is in use, and should be re-configured using the remaining steps illustrated here. Otherwise, it can remain unchanged. 6. Remove the existing NetVault: Backup driver by issuing the following command: rem_drv nv 7. With the driver removed, ensure that it s related configuration file is renamed, in order to remove it, but also preserve this file for future access, if necessary. This can be accomplished by issuing the following command:

Important: If further changers are to be added in the future, it may be beneficial to add 'name' entries for all of the currently unused target and lun combinations (i.e., in order to distinguish a specific device). 12.Update the SGEN driver to use the new configuration, by issuing the following command: update_drv sgen There will now be a new link created to the SCSI device using Solaris 10 s native SGEN driver, and saved in the format c<x>t<scsi ID>d<LUN value> (e.g., c2t5d0 ), in the directory, /dev/scsi/changer/. Navigate to this directory, and make note of this link name (i.e., using the SCSI ID - t<x> and LUN value d<x> to identify the file). 13.It is next necessary to identify the device to which the created link file applies. Issue the following command to accomplish this (where c<x>t<x>d<x> applies to the link file identified in /dev/scsi/changer/ : ls -l /dev/scsi/changer/c<x>t<x>d<x> The command should return a result similar to the following: /dev/scsi/changer/c<x>t<x>d<x> ->../../../devices/ pci@1c,600000/scsi@2,1/sgen@5,0:changer 14.Note all of the resulting information that occurs (e.g., in the above example, the resulting information consists of /devices/pci@1c,600000/ scsi@2,1/sgen@5,0:changer ). 15.Navigate back to the directory housing the NetVault: Backup driver entry for this specific device -- /dev/nv<x> (i.e., the path revealed for the

73 NetVault : Backup 73 Installation/Upgrade Guide selected device back in Step 4 -- /dev/nv42 in that example), delete the entry in this directory, but leave the directory itself intact. 16.Re-link the new SGEN driver device, by issuing the following command (i.e., where the variable <path information for device> refers to the resulting information recorded from Step 14, and the variable <x> refers to the device s instance number -- as noted in Steps 4 and 15). ln -s <path information for device> /dev/nv<x> 17. Restart NetVault: Backup services (i.e., via the NetVault: Backup Configurator). The device will be available in NetVault: Backup, using the SGEN driver. 6.5 Known Upgrade Issues This section describes the various issues with upgrading NetVault: Backup, its symptoms, causes and solutions. Three Way Windows-based O/S Upgrade Issue Symptoms When a three stage upgrade on Windows is performed as follows, two NetVault: Backup entries will appear in the Add/Remove programs list: Start with ver. 7.0 and Upgrade to a 7.1 build prior to Dec 23, 2003 Upgrade to the latest build Cause This occurs because NetVault: Backup version 8.2 was installed permachine, but NetVault: Backup data was installed per-user. With the new Windows Installer, products cannot upgrade products that were installed differently in terms of per-machine vs per-user installation. NetVault: Backup should only support per-machine installs, but an error in earlier 7.1 builds meant that upgrades were installed per-user. When this occurs, the upgrade will be successful and NetVault: Backup should function correctly. However: Removing either entry from the Add/Remove programs list will cause NetVault: Backup to stop functioning. Depending on which order packages are removed, NetVault: Backup shortcuts may not be correctly removed. Error appears when upgrading NetVault: Backup to 7.4 on NCR MP-RAS and Solaris operating systems Symptom The following error message appears when upgrading from NetVault: Backup version to 7.4 on MP-RAS or Solaris systems: Current Administration requires that a unique instance of the <nv6server> package be created. However, the maximum number of instances of the package which may be supported at one time on the same system has already been met.

74 74 Chapter 6 Upgrading NetVault: Backup Error appears when upgrading NetVault: Backup to 7.4 on NCR MP-RAS and Solaris operating systems Cause Solution The line instance=unique in the file /var/sadm/pkg/install/admin/default causes the upgrade failure. Open the default file located at: /var/sadm/pkg/install/admin/default using any text editor (e.g., vi) and change the line instance=unique to instance=overwrite If the file is not found in the specified location, issue the following command to locate it: find / -name default -print Error appears when launching an installation from a mapped drive letter on a terminal server Symptoms Cause Error 2755 appears after launching an installation from a mapped drive letter to a terminal server. Windows 2000 does not support passing mapped drive letter information between terminal server sessions. Since the Windows Installer service runs as a service in the console session, mapped drive letters established in remote sessions are not visible to the Windows Installer service, resulting in this error. This only applies when running the service in Application Server mode, not Remote Admin mode. This limitation does not exist in Windows XP and later operating systems. NetVault: Backup Libraries Locked by Non-NetVault: Backup Processes Symptoms Upgrade failure occurred because winnt\system32\lib files could not be deleted due to sharing violations. Cause The DB2 APM causes this problem. After the DB2 APM is installed, DB2 has the NetVault: Backup hook library loaded. Loading this library also causes DB2 to load the dependent NetVault: Backup libraries libnv6.dll, libnv6plugin.dll and libnv6os.dll. Because these libraries are in use, NetVault: Backup cannot overwrite them during an upgrade. This causes NetVault: Backup programs used in the upgrade to fail as they end up trying to link against the old versions of the libraries. Solution Stop the DB2 APM, re-attempt the upgrade, and re-start the DB2 APM. If the Oracle RMAN APM is Installed, Oracle Instances Running on the Oracle Server Must Be Shut Down at NetVault: Backup Upgrade Symptom (Windows-based systems only) NetVault: Backup upgrade fails if the Oracle RMAN APM is installed and Oracle instances are running on the Oracle Server during the upgrade.

75 NetVault : Backup 75 Installation/Upgrade Guide If the Oracle RMAN APM is Installed, Oracle Instances Running on the Oracle Server Must Be Shut Down at NetVault: Backup Upgrade Cause Solution The Oracle instances use the orasbt.dll that uses NetVault: Backup core libraries. When NetVault: Backup is upgraded, the upgrade process attempts to remove these NetVault: Backup core libraries, but cannot do so because they are in use. The OracleServiceSID must be stopped on the Oracle Database host machine, or the orasbt.dll must be unloaded. Otherwise, the upgrade may lose all configuration settings, and it may be necessary to remove NetVault: Backup.

The information in this chapter is organized into the following topics: Installing NetVault: Backup Plugins Installing Optional Plugins and APMs Installing NetVault: Backup Core Plugins Removing a Plugin or APM 7.1 Installing NetVault: Backup Plugins NetVault: Backup offers a selection of components that are used in conjunction with the NetVault: Backup GUI to perform specific backup and recovery operations -- either to backup specific types of data or to add more functionality to the GUI itself. These are broken down into two families: Optional Plugins and Application Plugin Modules (APMs) - This pertains to any number of optional components that are licensed separately from the NetVault: Backup Server Editions (WorkGroup, DataCenter, Enterprise) and include the NDMP, VMware, SnapVault, SnapShot Manager, Snap Mirror to Tape Plugins and the Oracle, SQL Server, Exchange, SharePoint, MySQL, PostgreSQL, DB2, Lotus Notes/Domino, Sybase, Informix, and TeraData Application Plugin Modules. Core NetVault: Backup Plugins - This consists of the plugins that are automatically installed with a default installation of NetVault: Backup. The following sections offer information and instructions on the installation of these APMs and plugins Installing Optional Plugins and APMs Due to specific pre-installation and post-installation instructions that are required on a per-apm/plugin basis, individual user s guides have been generated that offer complete installation instructions. 77 7.1.2 Installing NetVault: Backup Core Plugins NetVault : Backup 77 Installation/Upgrade Guide Separate installation procedures are not required for NetVault: Backup s Core Plugins, which are automatically included with a standard installation of the software. Core Plugins include the following: File System Plugin Consolidate Incremental Backups Plugin Data Copy Plugin NetVault Databases Plugin Raw Device Plugin a Re-Installing a NetVault: Backup Core Plugin In the event that a NetVault: Backup Core Plugin was removed from a target system, the instructions that follow can be utilized to re-install it. 1. Open the NetVault: Backup Client Management window by clicking the Client Management button on the command toolbar (or by selecting Client Management from the Administration pull-down menu). 2. In the Clients frame, right-click on the machine serving as the NetVault: Backup Server and choose Install Software from the pop-up menu. 3. A window will launch allowing you to navigate to the desired directory to select the file for installation. Navigate to the following directory (where... represents the complete path to the installation of NetVault: Backup on the target machine):.../netvault: Backup/packages/standard 4. A list of files will be displayed. Based on the plugin that is to be re-installed, select one of the following files: con<####>.npk - Consolidate Incremental Backups Plugin cpy<####>.npk - Data Copy Plugin nvd<####>.npk - NetVault Databases Plugin nvf<####>.npk - File System Plugin raw<####>.npk - Raw Device Plugin Important: The <####> variable revealed in each file name above refers to version information for the selected plugin. As new releases of the NetVault: Backup are offered, these number values may change for new versions of these plugins. However, the first three characters of each file will stay constant.

When the installation is complete, a successful installation message will appear in the Install Software dialog box. 6. The sections that follow outline the removal of the two types of NetVault: Backup APMs/Plugin (i.e., NetVault: Backup Core Plugins vs. Optional Plugins and APMs). Important: Prior to attempting to remove any NetVault: Backup APM/Plugin component, it is recommended that you consult BakBone Technical Support to ensure that removal will not negatively affect NetVault: Backup and its functionality a b Removing NetVault: Backup Core Plugins It is strongly recommended that all of NetVault: Backup s Core Plugins be left installed and not removed. Only remove a NetVault: Backup Core Plugin at the recommendation of, and under full guidance of a BakBone Technical Support representative. To request a NetVault: Backup License Key, it is necessary to contact BakBone Software Licensing Support and provide the following information: Machine ID of NetVault: Backup Server and any APMs - Provide the Machine s ID gained in the process detailed above for the NetVault: Backup Server as well as any applicable Application Plugin Modules installed on that machine. Machine ID of NetVault: Backup Clients and any APMs - A NetVault: Backup Client system (one on which the Client version of the software is installed), is not licensable, although any NetVault: Backup APMs installed on the system are. Provide the Machine ID(s) for these NetVault: Backup Clients as well as the name(s) of the Application Plugin Module(s) installed a Contacting BakBone Licensing Support To obtain a license key from BakBone Licensing Support, submit the request via BakBone s on-line product licensing form at: Installing a License Key A NetVault: Backup License Key is valid only for the Machine ID for which it is issued. The information in this chapter is organized into the following topics: Uninstalling NetVault: Backup Uninstalling from a Linux/UNIX-based O/S Uninstalling from a Windows-based O/S Uninstalling from a Solaris (SPARC/x86/x86-64) or NCR MP-RAS O/S 9.1 Uninstalling NetVault: Backup This section offers complete uninstallation instructions for each operating system supported with this release of NetVault: Backup. Instructions are given for both Client and Server versions. Important: Using the complete procedures listed below, NetVault: Backup Database entries will be deleted. It is important to note that the loss of this data may result in the loss of records recorded by NetVault: Backup which pertain to specific backup jobs. However, the actual backed up data will remain intact Uninstalling from a Linux/UNIX-based O/S The instructions offered in this section apply to the removal of NetVault: Backup from the following supported Operating Systems: AIX HP-UX Itanium Linux x86/x86-64 Linux Itanium Follow the steps below to successfully remove NetVault: Backup from any of the above-named operating systems: 1. From a terminal session, navigate to the root prompt. 2. Review the points below and select the appropriate uninstall command, based on the installation history of NetVault: Backup for the target machine: 7.x Upgrades/New Installations - If the original installation of NetVault: Backup on the target machine was a 7.x version, issue the following command at the prompt:

Follow the on-screen instructions to remove the software Uninstalling from a Windows-based O/S 1. Access the Control Panel window in Windows (e.g., via Start > Settings > Control Panel). 2. From this window, locate the Add/Remove Programs icon and double-click on it to launch this utility. 3. In the list of installed programs, navigate to the NetVault: Backup item. Select it and click on the Remove button. A dialog box will launch requesting confirmation of the remove request. Click on Yes to continue (or No to abort). 4. The removal process will begin, and several dialog boxes will be launched, monitoring its progress. 5. Not all NetVault: Backup files are removed during the previous process. Therefore, it is necessary to manually remove the NetVault: Backup installation directory and all of its contents. This directory will be located as follows (where... represents the path to the installation):.../netvault 6. With the directory deleted, NetVault: Backup has been uninstalled a Completing the Uninstall: Editing the Windows Registry With the previous process complete, all files pertaining to NetVault: Backup have been removed from the target system and it can be used as normal. However, a NetVault: Backup installation records various entries in the Windows Registry that are required for its use (and only NetVault: Backup s use). These entries can be left in the Registry with no negative effects to the target system. However, if it is ever necessary to re-install NetVault: Backup on this system, these entries must be removed from Registry, otherwise reinstallation of NetVault: Backup will not be possible. The procedure that follows can be used to successfully remove these Registry entries. Important: This process requires the editing of the Windows Registry. Therefore, it is strongly recommended that only a system administrator attempt to remove NetVault: Backup from a target Windows-based system.

Log into the target system using a Windows Administrator-level account. 2. From the Start menu, select the Run command. In the window that appears, type the following command, followed by clicking on the OK button: regedit 3. The Registry Edit utility will be launched. In the left-hand pane of this window, a tree-structure will be revealed beneath the My Computer parent item. 4. Locate the HKEY_CURRENT_USER key and click on its accompanying + icon to expand it (or double-click on the item). 5. Locate the Software key and expand this item. In the tree structure that is revealed, locate the key entitled NetVault: Backup Ltd and click on it to select it. 6. Delete this key (e.g., by either pressing the Delete key or by right-clicking on it and selecting Delete from the pop-up menu). 7. In the dialog box that appears, confirm the delete request by clicking on the Yes button. 8. Close the HKEY_CURRENT_USER key (e.g., by double-clicking on it or clicking on its accompanying - icon). 9. Repeat steps 4-8, using the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE key, in order to delete the NetVault: Backup Ltd folder that exists there. 10.With both NetVault: Backup Ltd folder items deleted, this process is complete and the Registry Edit window can be closed.

85 NetVault : Backup 85 Installation/Upgrade Guide Important: Windows Registry entries pertain to the use of Windows itself as well as any other installed applications. Therefore, it is strongly recommended that the NetVault: Backup Ltd entries outlined in the previous procedure be the only entries accessed. Deletion or manipulation of any other Windows Registry entries may negatively affect the use of other applications or even Windows itself Uninstalling from a Solaris (SPARC/x86/x86-64) or NCR MP-RAS O/S The sub-sections that follow, illustrate how to successfully remove an installation of NetVault: Backup, based on installation type (i.e., new installation vs. an upgrade). The instructions offered are to be used regardless of NetVault: Backup version installed (i.e., Client vs. Server) a b New Installations (version 8.x) 1. Launch a terminal session. 2. Regardless of NetVault: Backup version installed (i.e., Client vs. Server), issue the following command to initiate the uninstallation process. pkgrm netvault 3. Upon successful completion, a message will be displayed in terminal session window indicating this. Older Upgrade Installations (from 6.5.x) If your system at one time ran a 6.5.x version of NetVault: Backup and has been upgraded ultimately to current version, the uninstall must be performed in two separate phases. Each of these phases is covered in the following sub-sections. Important: If your original installation of NetVault: Backup was a 7.x version, and you have upgraded to version 7.4, the process covered in the section, New Installations (version 8.x), above is all that needs to be used to remove the software. Phase 1: Remove the Upgrade Installation 1. Launch a terminal session. 2. Regardless of NetVault: Backup version installed (i.e., Client vs. Server), issue the following command to initiate the uninstallation process. pkgrm netvault 3. Upon successful completion, a message will be displayed in the terminal session window indicating this.
