8 Enter the user alias/nickname of the backup device. This name means nothing to the actual operation of the LONE-TAR backup. Enter the device name. This is the actual device name of the backup device at the operating system level or the filename of the backup file. Enter the Block Factor. This is how many 512Kb of data get backed up in one segment. For example: If I set my Block Factor to 20, then my backups will be backing up twenty 512Kb per segment. The larger the number, the faster the backup. Do not exceed a Block Factor of 128. Enter the capacity of the backup. Enter the GB of total available space on your backup device. Use native capacity. Enter what software compression you would like to use. For quicker backups use no compression. For the best compression rates, use Bzip2 compression. Option #2. Would you like to make this the default device? Please answer yes to this question if you wish to use this backup device for a disaster recovery scenario Testing backup device Please always test to make sure LONE-TAR can backup and verify your device after adding any new backup device. A quick test can be executed right from the LONE-TAR main menu by typing the word test. This will perform a small backup of just the /usr/lone-tar directory and bit-level verify the data to insure its integrity. If it is successful, you have a good backup device. This is an automated process which will only require the user to press <RETURN> a couple of times. When it is complete you can now test your AIR-BAG recovery media. 2: Make a Bootable.ISO image on the server for later burning This option is for users who do not have a working CD burner on their system and need to make an ISO image for later burning. This image can be taken to any system including Windows to burn to CD. Lone Star Software Corp. Quick Start Guide Page 10
12 First go to the AIR-BAG Main Menu by running the following command: # /usr/air-bag/ab Do you have a CD-R/RW drive on your system? (y/n) Please answer NO to this question. Select option #2 (Image Administrator) Select option #1 (Bootable CD image only) The ISO image will be stored in the directory: /usr/air-bag/images/saved_img.dir Filename: abboot.iso 5.8. Testing AIR-BAG Make sure you have your Recover disk in the drive and your backup device is accessible. Proceed to boot off the AIR-BAG Recovery disk until you get to the System Crash AIR-BAG Main Menu. To execute a Test to make sure the hard disk and backup device is accessible, please select option #7 from the Main Menu 7 Test Backup and Hard Drive Accessibility If the hard disk accessibility and backup accessibility pass with a success, the AIR-BAG recovery media is reliable. If you get any failure message, please recreate AIR-BAG recovery media and call Lone Star Software for technical support if you are still within your support contract. Lone Star Software Corp.
