Casy Carroll hom in March aftr h lost a fingr from a vhicl-born improvisd-xplosiv dvic. Howvr, his intntions wr not to stay thr. Robrt Rosa and Spc. Casy Oliviri witnssd th trribl car accidnt, and without thinking, crossd th mdian of th highway and startd to rndr assistanc. It was a quick dcision. Oliviri said. Th vhicl was flippd upsid down. All you could s was smok coming up and a foot sticking out. Onc on th scn, thy rmovd two of th thr tnag girls from th vhicl and bgan administring first aid whil waiting for mrgncy prsonnl to arriv. Whn th mrgncy tchnicians arrivd, th two hlpd carry th girls to th ambulanc. Fir Chif Woody Williamson of th Nolanvill Fir and Rscu was so imprssd with th Soldirs that h calld thir chain of command to lt thir ladrs know what th Soldirs had don. Rosa and Oliviri said thy did not tll anyon about hlping out with th accidnt and wr surprisd whn thy wr calld out in a formation th nxt day. Two days latr thy wr awardd th Army Achivmnt Mdal. Lt. Col. Kith Gogas, commandr of 6-9 Cavalry, said th actions of Rosa and Oliviri ar an xampl for othr Soldirs to follow. H said it would hav bn asy for ths Soldirs to look th othr way, but thy chos to assist and thir actions hlpd stabiliz [th girls ] injuris and xpdit thir transportation to th hospital. Th Soldirs said thy think any othr Soldir would hav don th sam thing. It was th right thing to do, Rosa said. W r Soldirs 24 7 and that s what Soldirs do.
