2 ODINCARSA MISSION To strengthen Ocean Data and Marine Information Management capacity in the Caribbean and Latin America in order to contribute to Ocean Sciences, Operational Oceanography development and Integrated Coastal management activities at the regional level ODINCARSA OBJECTIVES Activate a cooperative network on Ocean Data and marine Information management. Assess the current and potential state of development of national data and information centers. Provide capacity-building on Ocean Data and Marine Information management. Provide ocean data and information products and services which support Operational oceanography, Coastal Environmental monitoring and coastal management. Implement an integral Action Plan to improve the existent capacity on Ocean data and marine Information management.

Actually, we are 54 members, from 12 Latin- American countries: Argentina, Barbados, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Venezuela, Uruguay. Latin American IAMSLIC Group products: The New Latin-American Regional Union List of Serials, which includes more than 8,350 holdings, records from 17 libraries across the region. 11 ODINCARSA MAIN OUTCOMES To put the Ocean Data and Information Management as a relevant issue at National level in most of 60% of Member countries. To establish and keep active a huge regional network integrated by more than 60 National Institutions and 237 experts from different sectors related to Ocean and Marine activities. To contribute on improving the provision of ocean data and information products and services to different users by sharing of expertise, knowledge transference and Capacity Building. To become a useful partner/platform for other IOC programs and Organizations such as GOOS, GCOS, IAMSLIC, IAI, CPPS, WMO, CLIVAR JCOMM, ASFA and ICAM.

12 ODINCARSA Future actions in Latin America The next phase of ODINCARSA in Latin America should have two main outcomes: The consolidation of a regional network on Marine information that provides permanent and valuable services to a wide community and The provision of data and information services to the Operational Oceanography, Coastal Management and Disaster Reduction Programs in the regions. ODINCARSA Specific Objectives : 1. To submit project proposals, joint partners and enhance networking in order to start the process for implementation of a Regional Data and Information center in the Caribbean Region. 2. To contribute with GRAs on the development of data and information products and services. 3. To contribute on the implementation of SPIN-CAM Project (approved on March 24 th 2008) 4. To implement the first phase of Ocean Docs Latin America Project

29 IOC/IODE ODINCARSA AND GEOSS SPIN-CAM Project could be a good opportunity to enhance interaction Between IOC and GEOSS in the regions. GRASP is a good platform to contribute with GEOSS. NODCs from the region could be potential contributors with GEONET. SEA LEVEL RISE risk assessment is a current need in the region and must be conducted in the near future, then partnershio will be needed.
