Leased Line + Remote Dial-in connectivity Client: One of the TELCO offices in a Southern state. The customer wanted to establish WAN Connectivity between central location and 10 remote locations. The customer also wanted to provide RAS connectivity at the central location to allow about concurrent dial-in users. The IP based network design would primarily be used for commercial and FRS connectivity (Fault Resistant System). The required bandwidth for connectivity between central location and remote locations was of 2 Mbps. All the locations needed direct termination of leased line into a high-end switch instead of a router. There were 2 servers in the central Location. The performance level required for the application was 100 Mbps. The connectivity speed between the switches needed to be of 100Mbps and connectivity to server was of 1000Mbps. The remote locations had about 5 nodes each. The customer preferred Layer 3 switch supporting routing and BGP (Border Gateway Protocol) in the central Location and Layer 2 switches at the remote locations. The connectivity needed to be from the central location to the remote locations. The customer needed additional provision in the central location to connect 1 more remote location in future Summary of Dax Solution Dax proposed an IP based interconnectivity solution, which could be used to commercial and FRS connectivity. At the central location, Dax recommended the customer to opt for a 24-port Layer 3 Switch, which allowed termination of 2 Mbps leased line for remote connectivity. High speed 64/32 bit Gigabit Ethernet cards were recommended for servers. At the remote locations, Dax recommended the customer to opt for 8-port Layer 2 unmanaged switches for connecting the said 5 nodes and also for terminating the leased line with the help of appropriate Interface converters. For remote dial-in connectivity, Dax recommended the customer to opt for Server based ISDN PRI RAS to allow as many as 30 concurrent dial-in users. At the remote locations, Dax recommended the customer to dial out using Analog or ISDN External modems (since the remote end was a standalone PC). Dax recommended the use of G.703 to Ethernet Interface Converter to terminate the leased line directly in the LAN switch, both at central and remote locations.
Details of Dax solution : At the central location, Dax recommended DX BT1 0524T, which has 24# 10/100Mbps ports and 2 inbuilt 1000T ports and 2 unpopulated minigbic modules. The 2 servers were recommended to get connected to 1000T ports of the Dx BT1 0524T switch. The Switch supports Layer 3 routing protocols such as RIP, RIP-2, DVMRP, OSPF and BGP. Thus, the user could effectively segment their network based on IP address through several routing protocols. All the remote locations needed to be in the same IP range as that of the central location to enable connectivity. High speed Dax Dx 2064T, 64/32 bit Gigabit Ethernet cards were recommended for the servers. At each remote location, Dax recommended DX508PS - Layer 2 unmanaged switch for connecting the said 5 nodes. As per the customer requirement, since the DLC was falling within 1.6KM, Dax recommended the use of Dax Maipu DXNB110B G.703 to Ethernet converter that has one E1 interface and one 10M Ethernet port. This converter would terminate the leased line directly in the switch, thereby eliminating the use of routers at both central location and remote ends. The Layer 3 switch at the central location was recommended for routing and transfer of data with the said remote locations, while the G.703 to Ethernet Interface converter and the 8 port Layer switch combination at the remote ends allows transparent bridging and access to information at central site via same range IP addressing. To allow concurrent dial-in users, Dax recommended Dax Eicon Diva Server PRI-30M ( 1 Port Server based ISDN PRI / R2 PCI RAS) that supports as many as 30 Analog and ISDN dial-in users concurrently. At the remote end, Dax recommended Dax 56K External Modem or ISDN T/A modem (as it was a standalone PC). Highlights of Dax solution: Highlights of the Dax BATM BT1-0524T switch: Zero configurations required for setting up the switch: All ports in the switch support auto detection of 10 Mbps or 100 Mbps speed depending on the configuration. In addition, the ports supports Auto MDI/MDIX with which the switch can automatically recognize if the port is connected to a network node or cascaded to a switch and connect accordingly. This ensures hassle free connectivity. Maximum Network uptime in Dax BATM Layer 3 Switch: Dax BT1-0524T is an advanced multi-layer, multi-service platform switch with wire speed nonblocking architecture specifically designed for the needs of high-powered networks. The T5Routing switch provides dependable performance and large number of redundancy features to ensure
maximum network uptime. Support for VLAN: Dax BT1-0524T supports both Port based or Tagged based VLAN. By implementing VLAN, the broadcast traffic is restricted to each VLAN group. As a result, the broadcast traffic of a single segment does not reach another segment. This reduces the collision between domains and the network traffic gets regulated. In -built redundancy in Dax BATM Layer 3 Switches: To ensure maximum network availability, Dax BATM switches have logical level redundancy with resilient links, IEEE 802.1d Spanning Tree, IEEE 802.1w Rapid Spanning Tree, link aggregation, and dynamic routing protocols. Non -Blocking Switch Fabric in Dax BATM Layer 3 Switch: Dax BTI-0524T Layer 3 Switch supports full non-blocking crossbar matrix switch fabric that provides a 20 Gbps switching backplane, allowing peak data transfer rate across all the ports. Fail Over / Redundancy Link: DXBT1-0524T switch supports Spanning tree protocol, which enable the backup loops between switches. In case if any one of the Switch in the network fails, the connectivity between the switches will function without fail by choosing the alternative path thereby providing 100 % Redundancy for the entire network Effective network traffic regulation: By implementing VLAN in DxBT1-0524T, the broadcast traffic is restricted to specified workgroup. As a result, the broadcast traffic of a single segment does not reach another segment. This reduces the collision between domains and the network traffic gets regulated. In -built Routing Function in the Switches: Dax DXBT1-0524T has layer 3 management features, which offers several routing protocols such as RIP, RIP2 and DVMRP, OSPF and BGP, ensuring effective segmentation of the network based on IP addresses. Support for Management: DAX DXBT1-0524T provides SNMP Management features with default MIB2, Bridge MIB, Ethernet MIB and RMON MIB. Thus, the user can manage these switches from any industry Standard NMS software. Operating System Independency: Dax switches are operating system independent and PC / Server independent. Thus, when the user changes their operating system platform, all LAN connectivity devices can function normally with out any need for any change in the configuration. Support for Web based configuration & Telnet Support in the DX-BT10524T Switch: DX -BT1 0524T switch supports Web based configuration. Thus, the switch can be configured from any standard web browser. Dax DX-BT1 0524T also provides complete control of the switch with a menu-based command line interface accessible in band via telnet or out of band via serial port. Highlights of the Dax DXNB110B WAN Interface Converter: Powerful compatibility : DXNB110B interface converter supports 10M full-duplex/half-duplex modes, switches between the direct mode and cross mode vide push-button option. Additionally, the Ethernet port supports the 802.1Q standard (VLAN and Tag transparent -transmission) as well as the full-duplex 802.3X flowcontrol mode and half-duplex backpressure mode, thereby ensuring no loss of data even in a congested network scenario. WAN channel indicators: DXNB110B interface converter has the function of WAN channel detection. According to the indicators' status, the user can find out the status of WAN channels rapidly. When the WAN channel
is in order; DXNB110B will send the status message of the Ethernet to the other end automatically through the WAN interface. Simultaneously, the indicators on the panel can represent whether the Ethernet port at the other end bridge is in order. When there is some network abnormity, the user can quickly track it. Easy updating: The user can easily update the DXNB110B system program through the computer serial-interface. Highlights of the Dax Eicon DIVA Server PRI PCI-30M: DSP Programmed for ISDN: Dax Eicon Diva Server PRI 30M's DSP is programmed specifically to handle all Layer 1/fax protocols that would otherwise be off-loaded to the server's processor. This ensures maximum security in data transmission, higher speed (33MIPS), and a server that performs faster and more efficiently. Multiple Operating System support: Dax Eicon Diva Server PRI solutions function with a variety of operating systems, including Windows 2000, Windows NT, Redhat Linux 7.2/7.3/8.0, SuSe Linux 7.3/8.0/8.1/ Enterprise Server and DOS. The Diva Server Software Suite CD supporting these operating systems is included with the Dax Eicon Diva Server PRI. Availability of Digitally signed drivers for Windows 2000 sever ensures complete compatibility with the operating system. Open systems architecture design and availability of software development tool kit allows support for applications like fax, UMS, CTI and VoIP. Easy Application Development: Dax Eicon Diva Server PRI solutions offers Diva Server SDK, a software development kit that provides application programming interfaces which allow the customer to easily develop their own communication applications for all Diva Server adapters. Support for Call Waiting Feature in Dax 56K External Modems: Using V.92 technology, the users of remote locations can use the call-waiting feature from the Telco. Whenever the user is online, the user will be able to put the modem "On -hold" and answer the phone without losing Internet connection. V.92 support is available in Dax 56K external modem for all major OS like Win9x/WinME/Win2000/WinXP. Highlights of the Dax DX-2064T Gigabit Ethernet Card: Support for VLAN and QOS in Giga Ethernet Cards: DX2064T Giga Ethernet Card supports VLAN functions when connected to a VLAN of the DXBT1-0524T Switch. Thus, the user gets additional security through port based VLAN available through the switch and MAC based VLAN available through DX2064T Ethernet cards. Support for 802.1q Priority Queuing in Giga Ethernet Cards: Dax DX-2064T supports Priority queuing feature when connected to the Dax DX-BT1 0524T switch supporting 802.1q QOS features for more effective and appropriate bandwidth. This is useful for nodes, which run time sensitive applications requiring bandwidth at specific time intervals such as Video conferencing, Voice chat etc. Support for Load Balancing in Gigabit Ethernet Card: DX -2064T supports load -balancing feature. Two cards can be installed in a server and connected to a switch, which supports link aggregation. In a network, the Server is the most bandwidth hungry component. In order to make sure that the Server has the maximum bandwidth and can process more network requests, the server can be loaded with 2 # Gigabit cards and the traffic to the server would be handled by both the cards. For both the cards to share the load, it requires special Driver software, which is provided. Support for Fault Tolerance: DX -2064T supports Fault Tolerance feature. Two cards can be installed in a server and connected to a switch, which supports link aggregation. In a network, the Server is the most critical component. In order to make sure that the Server link is always on and to reduce any link failure, the server can
be installed with two Gigabit cards. Thus, the server will be connecting to switch through Dual link. Even if One NIC fails or if one Link fails, the secondary card / link will take over. Thus, a fault tolerant design can be established with DX-2064T cards. Support for Jumbo Frames: DX -2064T supports Jumbo Frames. Jumbo Frames are Ethernet frames, which are larger than 1518 bytes that can be used to reduce server CPU utilization and improve wire efficiency of the entire network. By putting more data in fewer packets, Jumbo Frames can increase throughput and decrease CPU utilization, resulting in improved network performance.
