1 Nationwide WAN + VoIP connectivity Client: Multi-state network of universities based in a Southern state. Customer's requirement: The customer wanted to establish WAN connectivity between the Head office and 46 branch offices over BSNL's secured MPLS network. The IP based network design would primarily be used for Internet connectivity. The bandwidth required for the connectivity was 64Kbps at each remote location, while the Head office needed to have a 2 Mbps link. The connectivity needed to be between the Head office and the branch offices. The connectivity needed to be always-on with auto ISDN back-up connectivity, in case the primary leased line link failed. The customer preferred SNMP management option in the network devices. The WAN network would have MLLN connections in some of the branches. The customer preferred VoIP connectivity as an option. Summary of Dax solution: Dax recommended an IP based inter connectivity solution, which could be used for the said Internet connectivity. At the Head office, Dax recommended Modular Aggregation router that provides leased line as well as auto ISDN back-up connectivity to the branch offices. At each of the branch office, Dax recommended the customer to opt for Modular Access router with multi WAN Slots to provide leased line as well as auto ISDN back-up connectivity to the Head office, in case the primary leased line link failed. For VoIP connectivity, Dax recommended 4-port FXO based VoIP Gateway in the Head office and 2-port FXS based VoIP Gateway in each branch office.

2 Details of Dax solution: Dax recommended an IP based inter connectivity solution, which could be used for Internet connectivity. Head Office: Dax recommended DXMP 1761 Modular Aggregation Router that has 4 Network Module slots and 1 # fixed fast Ethernet port. One slot of the DXMP 1761 Modular Aggregation Router was recommended to be loaded with 2- port Sync/Async high-speed WAN module. One WAN link was meant for connecting the Head Office with the said 46 branch offices through BSNL MPLS Network, while the additional WAN link may be used for any suitable future application. The second slot of the router was recommended to be loaded with 4-port ISDN BRI U module to provide auto ISDN back-up connectivity, in case the primary leased line link failed. Dax recommended the customer to have 2Mbps Leased line connectivity between the Head office and BSNL that enables multiple branch-h. O WAN sessions within the VPN tunnels provided by BSNL. Branch Offices: For each branch office, Dax recommended DXMP-1700 Modular Access Router, which has 4 WAN slots and 1 # fixed Fast Ethernet port. One slot of the DXMP-1700 Router was recommended to be loaded with Sync/Async WAN module to provide leased line connectivity to the Head office through BSNL MPLS Network. The second slot was recommended to be loaded with ISDN S/T module to provide auto ISDN back-up connectivity, in case the primary leased line link failed.

3 MPLS (Multi protocol Label Switching): Multi protocol Label switching (MPLS) is a short fixed-length label that generates and acts as a shorthand representation of an IP packet's header. Subsequent routing decisions (made by Label Switched routers) are made based on the MPLS label and not the original IP address. This new technology allows core network routers to operate at higher speeds without needing to examine each packet in detail, and allows more complex services to be developed, allowing discrimination on a QoS basis. MPLS is a method of forwarding packets at a high rate of speed. It combines the speed and performance of Layer 2 with the scalability and IP intelligence of Layer 3. Routers on the edge of the network (label edge routers [LERs]) attach labels to packets based on a forwarding equivalence class (FEC). Packets would then be forwarded through the MPLS network, based on their associated FECs, through swapping the labels by routers or switches in the core of the network called label switch routers (LSRs) to their destination. All Dax Maipu Routers support MPLS label edge route function. Managed Leased Line Network (MLLN) MLLN is designed mainly for having effective control and monitor on the leased line so that the down time is very much minimized and the circuit efficiency is increased thus achieving more customer satisfaction. In MLLN network, conventional PCM primary MUX and subscriber Modems are replaced by versatile MUX and Network Terminating Units (NTU) respectively. NTUs are programmable for different data speeds ranging from 64 Kbps (n x64 Kbps: nx1 to 32) depending upon the customer demand, thus having bandwidth control without changing Modem at his premises. Advantages of MLLN: Bandwidth Management as per the customer requirement (n x 64Kbps, 64Kbps to 2048Kbps) Saving the modems cost. NTUs are provided by BSNL without any charges.

4 VoIP Connectivity: Head Office: Dax recommended DX3804 FXO Gateway, which has 4 VoIP ports providing voice communication between the Head office and the said branch offices over the IP network. The FXO based VoIP Gateway gets connected to the EPABX, which in turn gets connected to normal telephone handsets. Thus, 4 users in the central location could make and receive concurrent calls from any of the remote locations within the network. Branch Offices: At each branch office, Dax recommended DX3502A FXS Gateway, which has 2 VoIP ports and 2 # fixed Ethernet ports. FXS VoIP Gateways connects to the LAN Switch vide Ethernet port at one end and connects to telephone Handsets at the other end vide RJ11 ports. One end of the FXS device would be connected to the LAN Switch and the other end would get connected directly to the handsets. Highlights of the solution Scalability of the solution: DXMP-1761 Modular Aggregation Router at the Head Office has free slots, which can be used for connecting more branches additionally in future just by loading appropriate modules. Thus, the solution is easily scalable. Ideal Central Site routing solution: DXMP-1761 Modular Aggregation router proposed at the Head office supports RISC based MPC8240@ 200 MHz with 68Kpps throughput. Robust design and high throughput makes it ideal for central site deployment, where high port density and high throughput on the router is required. Support for rich QoS functions: DXMP-1761 Modular Aggregation router provides guaranteed bandwidth and various network

5 services such as queue management (PQ, FIFO and WFQ) and MPLS. Thus, DXMP-1761 router offers a cost-competitive multifunction service platform for any enterprise application. Redundancy support: The Head office is connected to the branch offices through leased line as well as auto ISDN back up. If the leased line fails, the back up would automatically initiate the connection and maintain the uptime. When the leased line is restored, the auto ISDN back-up connection will disconnect automatically. Thus, the solution ensures 100% redundancy. Management option: Dax Maipu routers support SNMP. Hence, they can be managed from any industry standard SNMP software. Support for Industry Standard Routing Protocols: Dax Maipu routers support Industry standard LAN/WAN Protocols such as Default Gateway, Static Route, RIP V1/V2, OSPF, BGP, DDR, IGRP etc, thereby ensuring interoperability with other vendor products. Interoperability: Dax Maipu routers support standard compatibility for flawless interoperability. Its modular design supports various interfaces that guarantee easy upgradeability and scalability. Operating system Platform Independency: Dax Maipu routers are operating system independent and PC / Server independent. Router function is based on IP protocol. Thus, when the customer changes their operating system platform, all WAN connectivity devices would function normally with out the need for change in the configuration. In-built Security Mechanisms: Dax Maipu routers allow end-to-end secured encryption, with VPN module option too available (Product code: DX-IPSEC-SW). The routers support industry standard security protocols such as L2TP and GRE tunneling by default, thereby not having to invest additionally for such security features. Comprehensive Support for Managing the Network : With the availability of Master Plan software in Dax Maipu routers, the entire network can be managed. This software also provides integration with most popular/widely used management software likes HP Open View, Cisco Works etc. Robust Design: Dax Maipu routers adopt the standard 19' anti-electromagnetic-radiation chassis, which can be placed on a standard rack. Support for Bandwidth Optimization: Dax Maipu Routers support WAN optimization features such as dial-on-demand routing (DDR), bandwidth-on-demand (BOD), compression, filtering and spoofing to reduce WAN costs. Thus, the router can optimize the available bandwidth. Highlights of VoIP Solution Reduces Voice communication charges to zero: Dax VoIP solution reduces the traditional (STD) voice call charges across the above said IP network. Since it uses the existing IP network, STD lines can be avoided and thus communication charges can also be brought to zero. Hotline facility: Dax VoIP Gateways supports Hotline configuration, by which any 2 # locations can be configured with Hotline VoIP connection similar to regular telephone Hotline. The user need not dial the remote number. A permanent connection similar to Hotline can be configured in the IP network. Supports G.711 A/u-Law, G voice coders: Conformance to ITU standards for conversion of analog voice lines into digital ones and sampling ensures quality of speech close to conventional phone call. T.38 fax detection Support: Dax VoIP Gateways support Fax over IP with G.729, which consumes less bandwidth. With this support, the fax transfer will also be done through the existing IP network. Support for Web Based Management: Web management allows configuration of Dax VoIP devices in the network from any web browser, thereby facilitating easy network administration. Call Manager support for handling calls from 100 remote VoIP devices: With Dax FXO based VoIP gateways supporting in-built Call Manager, VoIP calls within the IP network can be routed using the in-built Call manager, which can handle as many as 100 Remote VoIP devices. Thus, the user can save investing in expensive Call Manager with Dax VoIP solution. Dax VoIP gateways also support Call routing through a Call Manager. Dax VoIP Gateways automatically discovers the Gatekeeper server connected to the Intranet Support for FXS to FXO direct mapping: With FXS to FXO direct mapping support, any remote FXS port will act like an extension of the PBX in the central site to which the FXO gateway is connected. This increases the usage comfort level of FXS VoIP devices and adding new FXS devices is just like adding more extensions to the PBX, allowing engineer friendly network expansion.
