1 AT-S60 Version Management Software for the AT-8400 Series Switch Supported Platforms Software Release Notes Please read this document before you begin to use the AT-S60 management software. The AT-S60 Version management software is supported on the AT-8400 Series switch. Hot Swapping Line Cards and Locked Security Level. The switch will stop forwarding traffic if you remove a line card that has one or more ports operating in the Locked security level. To avoid this problem, always examine the security level of the ports on a line card before you disconnect a link or remove a line card from the chassis, and change the security level of any ports operating in the Locked level. Hot Swapping Limitation. Before you install or remove a line card, make sure you remove all cable connections. When installing a card, you can connect a cable after the WAIT/REMOVE LED on the AT-8401 management card turns a steady green. Hot swapping a card that has a link may cause the switch to become unstable and require a reboot. IGMP Snooping and Leave Requests. The AT-8400 Series switch does not forward leave requests from host nodes to multicast routers when it is configured with IGMP in multi-host mode. This can result in situations where the last host node will continue to receive multicast packets from a multicast router even though all host nodes have issued leave requests. The multicast router, however, will stop transmitting multicast packets to the switch once the aging timer expires. IGMP Snooping Limitation. If your network configuration includes a server and a router connected to two separate ports on the AT-8400 Series switch and you want to configure IGMP snooping on the switch, the router will not receive multicast traffic. The switch will only forward multicast traffic to ports that send out IGMP reports. If your configuration is such that the router and multicast stream reside on separate ports, use an unmanaged switch to connect the server and the router to the same port on the AT-8400 Series switch. Locked Security Level. Changing the security level of a port from the Locked level to either the Limited or Secured level requires that you first change the port s security level to Automatic. Operator Login. Logging in as Operator does not allow you to change any switch parameters. However, an operator, by using the Save Configuration Changes selection, can save changes that were made to the parameters of a switch by a Manager. PN Rev A 2 Allied Telesyn, Inc.

3 Remote File Downloads. This version of the AT-S60 management software does not support downloading a software image or configuration file to the switch from a Telnet management session. To download files remotely, use a web browser management session. You can also download files from a local management session through the RS-232 Terminal Port on the AT Fabric Management card. Static Multicast Addresses and Port Number. The MAC address table does not display the port number(s) of static multicast MAC address. The port number for this type of address is displayed in the table as --. Port Trunks and Distribution of Source MAC Addresses. Source MAC addresses assigned to the ports of a port trunk are not redistributed when a port is added or removed from the trunk. Redistribution will occur if a link goes down or a MAC address ages out of the MAC address table. This is not a problem if RSTP is enabled on the switch. STP and Secondary Links. A secondary data link will experience a throughput loss for the first 15 seconds after it transitions to the forwarding state from the blocking state. The throughput loss disappears once the 15 seconds have passed. Redundant Links and Spanning Tree Protocols. An AT-8411 TX line card with more than five ports functioning as redundant links to other network devices can significantly impair the speed of convergence for STP, RSTP, and MSTP. You can avoid this problem by selecting ports on different line cards to function as redundant links. If you are experiencing convergence problems and your switch contains an AT-8411 line card with more than five ports functioning as redundant links to other network devices, reduce the number of redundant links on the AT-8411 line card. Reducing the number of redundant links will correct the convergence problem. Multiple Spanning Tree (MSTP). Due to different vendor implementations of the new IEEE 802.1s standard, compatibility issues concerning MSTP instances between the AT-8400 Series switch and switches from other vendors may exist. This can result in compatibility issues between different MSTP implementations. For this release, MSTP is compatible only with other AT-8400 Series switches. VLAN Port Entry Issue. When creating a VLAN, if you enter a port number, a comma, and a space before the next port number, the VLAN creation is rejected. This occurs on local and Telnet management sessions. To correct this issue, enter VLAN ports separated by a comma without a space, for example: ,8.4-8,9.1 Default VLAN Tagged Display Issue. There is a display issue when deleting tagged VLAN ports. A problem occurs if you create another VLAN (with a PVID other than 1) and you assign the ports in the new VLAN as tagged ports and then delete the new VLAN. The ports assigned to the new VLAN revert to the Default VLAN (with a PVID of 1) with the default value of untagged; however, the display shows these ports as tagged. To correct this problem, reboot the switch and the display accurately shows the ports as untagged. FAN LED. The fan LED does not change to amber if the fan unit is removed. 4 AT-8413 Line Card and Auto-Negotiation. Enabling or disabling Auto-Negotiation on the twisted pair port on the AT-8413 line card while the port is forwarding traffic at 10 or 100 Mbps may impair port performance. Throughput may drop to 60%. Resolving this requires disabling and enabling the port. To avoid this problem, you should always disable the port before enabling or disabling Auto-Negotiation. AT-8413 Line Card and Gigabit Performance. The twisted pair port on the AT-8413 line card, when operating at 1000 Mbps, has a maximum throughput of 1,407,373 packets per second in half-duplex operation. AT-8413 Line Card and Half-duplex Mode. The 10/100/1000 Base-T twisted pair port on the AT-8413 line card will experience a throughput loss if configured to operate at 1000 Mbps at half-duplex. This is not an issue when the port is operating at full-duplex. DELETE MSTP MSTIID Command. This command is nonfunctional. To delete MSTI IDs, use the menu or web interface. DELETE VLAN Command: no error given for partial command. If you enter delete vlan=name, the ports in the VLAN are not deleted and you do not receive an error message stating that you entered a partial command. To delete the ports in a VLAN, you must specify the name of the VLAN as well as which ports you want to delete, for instance delete vlan=name vid= , 5.1-8, DELETE VLAN Command: all option is not functional. The all option of the DELETE VLAN command is not completely functional. If you want to delete all the ports on a VLAN, you cannot use the all option unless every port in the chassis belongs to that VLAN. To delete specific ports, you must specify the ports to be deleted, for instance delete vlan=name vid= , 8.1-8, RESET MSTP and SET MSTP DEFAULT Commands. The former command returns all MSTP parameters to the default settings, but does not delete MSTI IDs. The latter command does the same thing, but it also deletes the MSTI IDs. SET ASYN Command. The help message for this command lists 56,700 bps as a valid speed for the RS-232 Terminal Port. This speed is invalid. The correct speed is 57,600 bps. SET IP ROUTE Command. This command is nonfunctional. To set the default gateway address, use the Telnet or web interface. SET PORT SECURITY Command. If you want to assign limited security mode to a port and you want to specify how many MAC addresses can be learned on this same port, you must use two separate commands. If you combine both in one command, for instance, set switch port 7.8 securitymode=limited learn=1 The port will be assigned the automatic security level. 5 set switch port 7.8 securitymode=limited set switch port 7.8 learn=1 SET STP PORT Command. You cannot return a port s STP parameter settings to the default values with this command if STP is disabled. For instance, the following command returns an error message if STP is disabled: set stp port=8.2 default To correct this problem, enable STP before you return a port s STP parameters to the default values. SET SWITCH PORT Command. The PRIORITY option in this command is nonfunctional. To set a port s priority, use the menu or web interface. SET SWITCH PORT Command and the AT-8413 Line Card. You cannot use the SET SWITCH PORT command to change the speed of the 10/100/1000 Base-T port on an AT-8413 line card. To change port speed on this line card, use the menu or web interface. SHOW CONFIG Command. Typing Q to stop the information displayed by this command may not work the first time. Type Q again to stop the display. PN Rev A 5 Allied Telesyn, Inc.
