2 Configuring the RTX Base Station Finding the IP Address of the RTX Base Station The RTX Base Station requires a DHCP server to boot for the first time. After it boots there are three recommended methods for finding out its IP address so that it can be connected to for configuration. 1. Native RTX DECT Handset: a. Press Menu and then *47* to put the handset into base station search mode. b. Then use the cursor down/up to select the base station based on its MAC address. 2. DHCP Server Leases: a. Look at the DHCP server active leases table and find the IP based on the MAC address of the base station. 3. IP Scanner: a. Use an IP scanner such as Angry IP Scanner from b. Find the IP by MAC address in the scan results Note: Fresh installations of AngryIP do not show the MAC address column. Enable that functionality under Tools > Fletchers c. Example: The IP address can be set statically under the Network menu of the RTX Base Station Administration web interface. While a static LAN IP is not required, it does simplify adding phones in the future. PAGE 2 Fontel Inc

3 Accessing the RTX Base Station Web Interface Use a web browser to browse to the IP address of the RTX Base Station. The default login is admin/admin RTX Main Screen RTX Base Station Required Firmware Version Version 3.24 or better of the RTX firmware is required to connect Konftel devices. Click on the Home/Status menu to check the firmware version. Contact CTD Technical Support - support@ctdconnect.com to get the latest firmware if the base station is not on at least Adding SIP IP PBX Setting to the RTX Base Station Prerequisite Information: IP PBX Address or Hostname and audio codec capabilities from the IP PBX vendor or hosted provider. To add an IP PBX to the RTX Base Station: 1. Click on Servers from the RTX Main Screen. 2. Click Add Server in the Servers screen. PAGE 3 Fontel Inc

4 Blank Add Server Screen 3. For all IP PBX systems that are on the same LAN as the RTX Base Station and for most remote IP PBX/Hosted Providers set NAT Adaptation to Disable. 4. Configure both the Registrar and Outbound Proxy to the IP Addess or DNS Hostname of the IP PBX. a. Note: Proper DNS resolution must be configured under the Network menu if a hostname is used for these settings. Sample IP PBX/Hosted Provider Settings 5. If G.722 HD Audio is supported by the IP PBX, click Reset Codecs under Codec Priority and then use the Up/Down buttons to move G.722 to the top of the list. a. 5 Sample Codec Priority Settings 6. Do not change ANY other settings on this page unless speci cally required by the IP PBX. 7. Click Save to save the IP PBX settings. Adding Extension Settings to the RTX Base Station Prerequisite Information: Registration credentials from IP PBX vendor or Hosted Provider for each phone to be registered. To add the extension registration information for the Konftel 300Wx: 1. Click on Extensions from the RTX Main screen. 2. Click on Add extension in the Extensions screen. 3. Populate the Add Extension form elds as follows: a. Extension = Registration ID/User ID for the extension to be registered. b. Authentication User Name = Authetication ID for the extension to be registered. i. Note: This is often the same as the Registration ID/User ID but this is not always the case. c. Authentication Password = the password for the extension to be registered. d. Server will be auto-populated with the server that was created in the Adding SIP IP PBX Setting to the RTX Base Station section. Sample Add extension Settings 4. Click Save to save the IP PBX settings. 5. Repeat this section for any additional phones that will be connected to this RTX Base Station. PAGE 5 Fontel Inc

6 6. Once this is complete the Extensions page will show a list of all of the phones that were added. a. Note: The IPEI for all phones will be FFFFFFFFFF prior to the phones making a DECT connection. Sample Extensions Settings PAGE 6 Fontel Inc

7 Configuring the Konftel 300Wx Phone Entering the Konftel Service Mode The Konftel 300Wx comes set to US-Extended for its DECT REGION in its default USA configuration. In order to connect it to the RTX DECT Base enter the Konftel Service Menu and change its DECT REGION to US-NONEXTENDED. Service Menu Mode DECT REGION Menu To enter the Service Menu: 1. Press MENU (top center Gear button) once. 2. Then press HOLD (lower left button) for two seconds. 3. Then press the LINE MODE (lower right button) for two seconds. To change the DECT REGION in Service Menu mode: 1. Scroll down to DECT REGION. 2. Press OK. 3. Toggle the cursor to US-NONEXTENDED. 4. Press OK. 5. Press the button to escape back to the main menu. 6. Turn the phone off and then back on by long holding the red onhook button. PAGE 7 Fontel Inc

8 Pairing the Konftel 300Wx with the RTX Base Station Back in the RTX Base Station Web Interface: 1. Click on Extensions. 2. Check the far left checkbox next to the phone that you want to register. 3. Click Register Handsets to put the Base Station into registration mode. On the Konftel 300Wx Phone s Keypad: 1. Press the MENU (Top Center Gear button). 2. Scroll down to SETTINGS. 3. Press OK. 4. Scroll down to DECT. 5. Press OK. 6. Press OK on REGISTER. 7. Press OK on BASE Enter 0000 at the ENTER PIN CODE prompt. 9. After a couple of seconds the screen should say SUCCESS. a. NOTE: If it says FAILURE try the complete pairing procedure again and then call technical support if it does not work the second time. 9 10. Refresh the Extensions page in the RTX Web Interface to confirm that the IPEI field is now populated with something other than FFFFFFFFFF. 11. Also in the Extensions page confirm that the State column shows Registered as above which indicated that the SIP registration the IP PBX/Hosted Provider was successful. 12. You should now be able to make calls to and take calls from the Konftel 300Wx. PAGE 9 Fontel Inc

10 What if it does not work? There are too many variables involved in setting up any VoIP device on an IP PBX or Hosted Provider to go into all of the possible gotchas in a document like this but there are a couple of things to check before calling technical support if something is not working. If the Konftel 300Wx does not pair with the RTX Base Station (ie. IPEI number does not change from FFFFFFFFFF), go through that pairing procedure again and try to do it a little faster. The RTX Base Station will stop listening for pair requests if none come for some period of time. If the Konftel 300Wx phone does pair with the RTX Base Station but does not show Registered in the State column or in the IP PBX/Hosted Provider, check the registration credentials again to make sure they are correct. Also check the SIP Log menu in the RTX Base Station web interface to see if the registration failure cab be identified. Often a 404 Not Found or other message will lead to the cause of the issue.
