(March 6, March 10, 2013). Conference Attendance, "43rd SIGCSE Technical Symposium on Computer Science Education", ACM/SIGCSE. (February 29, March 3, 2012). Conference Attendance, "42nd SIGCSE Technical Symposium on Computer Science Education", ACM/SIGCSE. (March 9, March 12, 2011). Seminar, "Water Works Educator Training", National Science Foundation/Texas Girls Collaborative Project. (January 24, January 28, 2011). WaterBotics is the curriculum component of a National Science Foundation ITEST Scale-Up grant. This five-year, $2.5 million programs aims to reach between 6,000 and 11,000 middle and high school students and youth with an intensive science and engineering experience based on a series of underwater robotics design and programming challenges. Seminar, "ABET Program Evaluator Training", ABET Inc. (April 9, April 11, 2010). Attended training session necessary to become an ABET Program Evaluator Conference Attendance, "41st SIGCSE Technical Symposium on Computer Science Education", ACM/SIGCSE. (March 9, March 13, 2010). Workshop, "Alice 3 and Java for CS1 & AP CS", ACM SIGCSE. (March 12, 2010). his workshop, designed for instructors of CS1/AP, introduces Alice3 with built-in transition from Alice to Java. The workshop offers hands-on experience programming with Alice3 and integrating a transition to Java IDE, e.g. NetBeans. Alice3 builds on Alice2 s powerful program visualization technique, enabling students to see objects and work with object- oriented programming. Participants will learn how to use Alice3 to build virtual worlds and how to use this approach in CS1 courses (introductory programming for majors and non-majors and AP CS). Conference Attendance, "40th SIGCSE Technical Symposium on Computer Science Education", ACM/SIGCSE. (March 3, March 8, 2009). Workshop, "Greenfoot - Introducing Java With Games And Simulations", ACM SIGCSE. (March 4, 2009). Greenfoot is a programming environment, developed by the creators of BlueJ, that allows teaching of object-oriented programming concepts using Java in a highly engaging and motivating context. Built in the tradition of Turtle Graphics, Karel the Robot and Squeak, Greenfoot offers a more integrated, graphical, interactive experience than previous systems. Building widely differing scenarios, such a simulations or games, is easy and quick, and scenarios can easily be published
5 on a website (greenfootgallery.org). Greenfoot should be of interest to anyone teaching Java, especially in early programming courses (including schools). The workshop is practically oriented and allows participants to use Greenfoot in their classroom immediately. Conference Attendance, "Texas Engineering Technology Consortium Best Practices Conference", TETC. (February 11, February 12, 2009). Faculty Development Conference Attendance, "SIGCSE 2012," Association of Computing Machinery, Raleigh, NC. (February 29, March 3, 2012). Programming Lab Demonstration, "MyProgrammingLab Demonstration," ACM SIGCSE, Raleigh, NC. (March 2, 2012). A demonstration of MyProgrammingLab - a database of programming exercises correlated to specific Pearson CS1/Intro to Programming textbooks. Conference Attendance, "2011 ABET Symposium," ABET, Inc., Indianapolis, IN. (April 14, April 16, 2011). Conference Attendance, "SIGCSE 2011," Association of Computing Machinery, Dallas, TX. (March 9, March 12, 2011). Conference Attendance, "SIGCSE 2010," Association of Computing Machinery, Milwaukee, WI. (March 9, March 13, 2010). Workshop, "Alice 3 and Java for CS1 and AP CS," ACM SIGCSE, Milwaukee, WI. (March 12, 2010). Workshop, "Introducing Computing with Personal Robots," ACM SIGCSE, Milwaukee, WI. (March 10, 2010). The Institute for Personal Robots in Education (IPRE) is pleased to offer a pre-symposium hands-on workshop for instructors interested in using robots as a stimulating context for CS education. First run as a series of summer workshops in 2008, this updated pre-symposium will introduce you to a fresh, but proven practical approach to CS1 that uses personal robots. Workshop, "Writing More Effective NSF Proposals," ACM SIGCSE, Milwaukee, WI. (March 10, 2010). This workshop will focus on writing effective education NSF proposals. The workshop will cover the following topic areas: writing effective goals, objectives and outcomes; writing a convincing rationale; preparing a responsive evaluation plan; preparing an effective and believable dissemination plan; and dealing with the realities of the review process. The workshop will use a structured guidedinteractive methodology that leads participants through each of these topics by introducing the issues related to the topic, engaging participants in group exercises designed to explore and share their understanding of these issues, and then providing some expert opinion on these issues. Workshop, "National Science Foundation Day," National Science Foundation, Murfreesboro, TN. (December 18, 2009). Workshop, "Roadshow Roadmap: Getting Started with K-12 Outreach," ACM SIGCSE, Chattanooga, TN. (March 6, 2009). Despite interest in creating and sustaining K-12 outreach programs, many institutions are hampered by a lack of understanding of the K-12 community, resources to develop high-quality presentation materials, and knowledge of current research regarding best practices for encouraging student interest in computing. The primary objective of this workshop is to improve the availability and quality of college outreach programs by providing the attendees with key strategies for creating an effective roadshow. We will share our experiences of working with K-12 teachers and creating viable, self-
6 sustaining outreach programs that connect with K-12 students and have particular relevance for underrepresented groups. Attendees should be interested in developing an outreach program to serve their local area with the aim of addressing the dropping interest in computer science education and careers among young people, and especially among women and minority students. Workshop, "Greenfoot - Introducing Java With Games And Simulations," ACM SIGCSE, Chattanooga, TN. (March 4, 2009). Greenfoot is a programming environment, developed by the creators of BlueJ, that allows teaching of object-oriented programming concepts using Java in a highly engaging and motivating context. Greenfoot should be of interest to anyone teaching Java, especially in early programming courses (including schools). The workshop is practically oriented and allows participants to use Greenfoot in their classroom immediately.
