2 From the Principal New Assistant Principal After an extensive process, I am delighted to inform you that we have selected our new Assistant Principal. Mr Greg Keary has been successful at interview and will take up his position at the beginning of Term 2. Some of you may remember Mr Keary who was with us here at Kellyville Ridge last year as a classroom teacher before moving to Riverbank PS. Mr Keary will be responsible for Stage 3 and will be teaching 5C. We thank Miss Campbell for the wonderful job that she has done at setting up the class. 3-6 Athletics Carnival A reminder that our 3-6 athletics carnival is scheduled for Monday 21 st March. All children will need to be at school by 8.00am and make their way to the hall for roll marking. The first bus will be leaving school at 8.15am. Children not attending the carnival are expected to come to school. Classes will be operating for these children. Please be aware that the carnival will go ahead whether it is raining or not as the Blacktown venue has an all-weather track. Paul Kelly Cup Success A huge congratulations to our two Paul Kelly Cup teams who competed this week. The boys played well throughout the whole competition and represented the school with great dignity and exceptional sportsmanship. They then cheered on the girl s team who played superbly and came out as the ultimate winners. Mr Hope and Mr Storey are extremely proud of both our teams. Parent Teacher Interviews Parent teacher interviews are scheduled for the last week of term. 3 From the Deputies MULTICULTURAL SPEAKING COMPETITION Congratulations to the students who took part in the finals of this speaking competition. As the adjudicators, we were absolutely delighted with the standard of the speeches and the maturity of all the students involved. Congratulations to the four winners who will now go on to compete against students from other schools. Well done! EASTER ACTIVITIES Easter is rapidly approaching and we are going to run our Easter Eggstravaganza again this year. Details are provided later in the newsletter. We are asking once again for donations of Easter eggs for the P&C Easter Guessing Competition (Raffle). Easter eggs can be sent to the office for collection. Raffle books have come home this week and prizes will be drawn at our Easter Eggstravaganza. MORNING ROUTINES We would now ask that parents say goodbye quickly and leave their children ready to line up when the bell goes. This makes it much easier for the children to be settled and the staff to convey messages. Please encourage your child, particularly Kindergarten children, to proceed to their class lines by themselves. This encourages them to be more independent and also hastens the lining up process. Also, a reminder that no-one is to be in a classroom before school. Children are to hang up their bags and go directly into the playground where they are supervised from 8.30am. ABSENCE NOTES When you are sending in notes for your child s absence, please make sure that you state a specific reason for the absence. Unfortunately, if a reason is not given, the absence will be entered as Unjustified. Mrs J.Maher Mr I. Duncan MINDQUEST 2015 This event is held over a weekend at Glenwood High School and is aimed at students K-6 that have a particular interest or talent in a variety of areas. It includes a number of workshops including Secret Missions (suitable for Year 1 and Year 2), The Wonderful World of Harry Potter (suitable for Years 3 and 4) and Digital Animation (Suitable for Years 5 and 6). There are 27 different workshops in all. The workshops will be at Glenwood High School and run on the weekend of Saturday 4 th and Sunday 5 th June. Application forms are available from the front office. Applications close on Friday 6 th May Cubbyhouse Vacation Care Enrolments are now open for Cubbyhouse Kellyville Ridge Vacation Care for the upcoming school holidays from the 11th to the 26th of April. Enrolment forms can be obtained from the school office, from before and after school care or from the website. Please do not hesitate to contact Cubbyhouse if you have any questions or problems.

4 K-2 Premier s Reading Challenge Update K-2 students are to experience 30 books during the Premier s Reading Challenge. We will be reading 25 books during our library and class programs. This year we are asking parents and students to read 5 books at home. These books can be free choice or on the Premier s Reading Challenge list. At the end of the challenge parents will be asked to submit their child s reading log (including the 25 books entered at school and the 5 books entered at home.) This gives the school permission for your student to be involved. Years 1 and 2 should have their user name and log in from last year. Kindergarten will be receiving their log in details in the coming weeks. For Kindergarten, please record your books on paper until your child receives their user name and log in. If you have any further questions please see your class teacher or myself in the library. Thank you for your cooperation. Happy Reading. Rachel Scott Premier s Reading Challenge Coordinator For more information please see the PRC website Kellyville Ridge celebrates Harmony Day on Tuesday 22 nd March The Harmony Day theme for this year is Our Diversity is our Strength and is a day that we embrace cultural diversity and share what we have in common. It is about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone. As our 3 6 Athletics Carnival falls on the 21 st March, students at Kellyville Ridge will be celebrating Harmony Day on Tuesday 22 nd and all students at Kellyville Ridge will be involved in celebrating Harmony Day. Books related to the theme will be read to the students next week during library and displays for Harmony Day will showcase the celebration. Around the school, posters will be displayed with our school statistics about the children s countries of origin. In the classrooms, children will participate in Harmony Day activities. Children can wear orange clothes, the colour for Harmony Day. As it is Sport in Schools they must wear joggers and bring their school hat.
