6 GREATEST GAIN PLATINUM AWARD FOR STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT OUR SUCCESS STORY North Cobb received the highest state award for greatest gains in student achievement based on the Georgia High School Graduation Tests and Adequate Yearly Progress reports. Out of Georgia s 450 high schools, only 8 high schools received this accolade.

7 HONOR ADVANCED PLACEMENT SCHOOL OUR SUCCESS STORY The State Board of Education has recognized NCHS as an Honor Advanced Placement School in all five categories available. AP ACCESS AND SUPPORT SCHOOL: Schools with at least 30% of their AP exams taken by students who identified themselves as African-American and/or Hispanic, and 30% of all AP exams earning scores of 3 or higher. AP MERIT SCHOOL: Schools with at least 20% of the student population taking AP exams and at least 50% of all AP exams earning scores of 3 or higher. AP STEM SCHOOL: Schools with students testing in at least 2 AP math courses and 2 AP science courses. AP S.T.E.M. ACHIEVEMENT SCHOOL: Schools with students testing in at least 2 AP math courses and 2 AP science courses and at least 40% of the exam scores on AP math and AP science exams earning scores of 3 or higher. AP Humanities School: Schools with students testing in all of the following AP courses: at least one ELA course, two social science courses, one fine arts course and one world language course.

8 ADVANCED PLACEMENT STATISTICS OUR SUCCESS STORY School Year 30% of NCHS graduates have passed 1 AP exam. Nearly 50% of test takers were 9 th /10 th graders. 78% of students taking AP exams scored a 3 or higher on at least 1 AP exam AP exams were administered in 24 subject areas at NCHS.

9 READY-TO-WORK PROGRAM OUR SUCCESS STORY Privately-funded construction classes - Superior Plumbing - Archer Restoration Services Approximately 250 students 20 Jobs for Highest Performing Students We currently offer 16 CTAE Career Cluster Pathways that are designed to show students the relevance of what they re learning in the classroom.

11 GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS Students must earn a total of 23 credits: 4 English 4 Mathematics 4 Science 3 Social Studies 1 Health/Physical Education 3 CTAE and/or World Language and/or Fine Arts 4 additional elective units Counselors will conduct classroom guidance lessons and supplementary parent nights to support students in meeting these requirements.

12 SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION HOPE Scholarship GPA in core curriculum (English, Math, Science, Social Studies and World Language) - Rigor Requirements Zell Miller Scholarship - Designated Valedictorian or Salutatorian (or) GPA in core curriculum - Rigor Requirements - Test Components SAT combined score (or) - 26 ACT composite score Rigor Requirements - Class of 2019 must pass four courses defined as Rigor Courses (Chemistry, Physics, Advanced Alg, Pre-Cal, 2 nd -4 th level World Language)

13 EARNING CREDITS Students earn credit for a course by earning a passing grade (70 or higher) in the course. Grading Scale A = 90 or higher B = C = D = F = 69 or below Minimum Grade Level Placements Freshmen = Less than 5 credits Sophomore = 5 credits Junior = 10 credits Senior = 16 credits

14 EARNING CREDITS Cobb County School District Promotion Requirements: 9 th to 10 th : 5 units (1 each in required or core Lit., Math, Science) 10 th to 11 th : 10 units (2 units each in required or core Lit., Math, Science) 11 th to 12 th : 16 units (2 units each in required or core Lit., Math, Science)

15 GRADE POINT AVERAGE GPA determined by quality points A = 4 B = 3 C = 2 D = 1 F = 0 Honors classes sophomore level and up earn extra.5 quality point; AP and FL IV & up earn extra 1.0 quality point Colleges recalculate GPA based on academic class only and add quality points differently 3.5 or higher GPA for Honors graduate

16 FINAL EXAMS & END-OF-COURSE TESTS (EOCT) EOCT Courses: (*denotes freshmen EOCT courses) *Biology American Lit/Comp *9 th Lit/Comp US History *CCGPS Coordinate Alg Economics CCGPS Geometry The EOCT is weighted at 20% of a student s final course grade. All final exams in non EOCT courses are also weighted at 20% of a student s final course grade.

17 PATHWAYS All students must have a pathway upon graduation. - Advanced Academic (ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies) - 4 credits in designated area (Social studies is 3 credits) - 2 years in same World Language - 1 AP course in designated area - CTAE courses in a designated pathway - Fine Arts - 3 courses in same program - World Languages - 3 years in same language

18 GENERAL GRADING POLICIES Interim progress reports will be issued to students every 6 weeks. Report cards are issued at the end of the S1 and S2; these final grades are reflected on the high school transcript. Parents can access the Synergy Parent Viewer to track assignments, grades, and attendance throughout the semester.

19 EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES Students should start thinking about what school club or athletic team they might be interested in joining. Colleges like for students to be able to document their participation in school activities. Learning to manage your time between school work and extra curricular activities is a very important life skill. Please refer to the NCHS website for a complete list of clubs, organizations, and athletic teams.

20 BENEFITS OF THE 9 TH GRADE ACADEMY The purpose of the Academy is to facilitate a smooth ninth grade transition for students socially and academically. All core classes are housed in the Academy. Students leave the Academy for their elective classes.

Foster confidence in your student by gradually transferring responsibility to them.
