5 Chapter 1 Backup and Recovery Table of Contents Overall Backup and Recovery Flows Usage Description Preparation Backup Implementation Recovery Implementation Overall Backup and Recovery Flows Data backup is a preventive measure for major faults. The NetNumen U31 system periodically backs up system data, and saves the data onto a third-party server for emergency use. For the system backup flow, refer to Table 1-1. Table 1-1 Backup Flow Sequence Operation Manually Backing up the Whole Database Structure Manually Backing up Basic Data Manually Backing up Files Manually Backing up Logs Manually Backing up Alarms Manual Backing up Performance Data For the system recovery flow, refer to Table 1-2. Table 1-2 Recovery Flow Sequence Operation Recovering the Whole Database Structure Recovering Basic Data 3 Starting the OMM server Recovering Logs Recovering Alarms Recovering Performance Data 1-1

6 NetNumen U31 R06 Backup and Recovery Guide 1.2 Usage Description You can use the system backup and recovery functions in the following scenarios: System data loss If system data is lost, for example, an NE/performance task/user is deleted by mistake, you only need to recover the basic data by using the latest file that is automatically backed up. Table 1-3 System Data Loss Recovery Flow Sequence Operation Recovering Basic Data Damaged OMM installation file If an OMM installation file is damaged, for example, the netnumen volume is damaged, you need to recover the file. Table 1-4 OMM Installation File Recovery Flow Sequence Operation Manually Recovering OMM Installation Path Damaged database file If a database file is damaged, for example, the emscn volume is damaged and the database fails to be started, you need to re-establish the database instance, and recover the file. For details, refer to Table 1-5. Table 1-5 Database File Recovery Flow Sequence Operation Creating a Database Instance Recovering the Whole Database Structure Recovering Basic Data 4 Starting the OMM server Recovering Logs Recovering Alarms Recovering Performance Data Recovering USPP Data 1-2

7 Chapter 1 Backup and Recovery Note: If a USPP accesses the NetNumen U31, you must perform Backing up USPP Data and back up the USPP data. If the database is damaged, you can use the backup data for USPP recovery. 1.3 Preparation Hardware Preparation For the hardware preparation, refer to Table 1-6. Table 1-6 Preparation Item Quantity Description Third-party server 1 Periodically saves backup files, which is used for system recovery when the system is damaged. If the third-party server is not configured and a server disk is damaged, all system files and backup files are lost, and thus the system cannot be recovered SFTP Information By default, the system saves backup files to the specified path (sftp://sysbak:***@ :21128/backup/sysbak/alldb) on the server, and users can access the files by SFTP. For the username and password for the SFTP access, refer to Table 1-7. Table 1-7 SFTP Access Information Username sysbak Password SysBak Backup Implementation There are two types of NetNumen U31 system backup as follows: Periodical backup: Periodically backs up related data, and uploads backup files to a remote server. Manual temporary backup: Manually backs up related data before software/patch upgrade, system parameter/important data modification, and backup and recovery demonstration. 1-3

End of Steps 1.5 Recovery Implementation Creating a Database Instance If the database instances cannot be started normally, you cannot directly recover the database. Instead, you need to create a database instance, and then perform the database recovery. Steps 1. Delete the faulty database instances by running the following command. For details, refer to the database installation manual. $dbca 2. Re-create a database instance by referring to the database installation manual. Note: The SID of the new instance must be the same as that of the instance in the database. The path to save the database instance must be the same as original path. 3. After the instance is created, start the instance and the interception function. End of Steps Recovering the Whole Database Structure To restore the database structure, you can use the offline recovery tool in the <EMS server installation path>/ums-server/utils/usf-backup directory, select a backup file for whole database structure recovery when the EMS server is not started. The whole database structure recovery consumes about 50 minutes in the CGSL system, and 90 minutes in the Solaris system. The recovery time varies with products. 1-24

29 Chapter 1 Backup and Recovery Prerequisite The database instance is started normally. Steps 1. Stop the NetNumen U31 service programs. 2.
