5 PORSEC 2016 Fortaleza-CE - Brazil Our belief is that the PORSEC 2016, in Fortaleza, taking into account the current socialpolitical-economical situation of the country and the state of Ceará, arouse the interest of our region and its potential for oceanographic research-related studies, which includes satellite oceanography.

6 PORSEC 2016 Fortaleza-CE- BRAZIL We emphasize that at this time, when the country has been systematically allocating resources to ocean studies and outlining strategic policies for the Atlantic Ocean, the PORSEC 2016, if held in Fortaleza, can bring to the workshop attendants major contributions to these discussions, since the city seems to have a strong synergy with the oceans. Furthermore, here in the sunshine state, the PIRATA Project was conceived. It is one of the boldest oceanographic projects designed to monitoring the Tropical Atlantic at near real time. It was designed in 1995 in Fortaleza, during the IPCC meeting, in partnership with the United States of America and France: N/O ANTARES (DHN) PIRATA (Prediction and Research Moored Array in the Atlantic).
