2 Day-by-Day Itinerary DAY 1 Thursday, 12/20/07 - Depart USA Depart JFK airport on your 4:10 PM flight to Prague. Do your best to get some sleep while onboard; we have a busy day tomorrow! DAY 2 Friday, 12/21/07 - Arrive in Prague We arrive early this morning at Prague airport and are picked up for transport into the Golden City. Arriving at our hotel at about 7:30AM (probably too early for room check-in), we have time to eat breakfast or explore until 9:00AM when our included tour begins. While other European capitals were leveled during World War II, Prague survived virtually intact. During the reign of Charles IV, King of Bohemia and Moravia, it was the seat of the Holy Roman Empire. Later it was the vital center of the Habsburgs. Our 3-hour walking tour takes us nearby to The Jewish Town. All of the sites, except the Old- New Synagogue, are incorporated into The Jewish Museum in Prague. The Maisel Synagogue houses an exhibition presenting a cross-section of the history of the Jews in Bohemia and Moravia, from the foundation of the Jewish communities there (10th century) up to the period of their emancipation (18th century). The Spanish Synagogue, a stunning building, has an exhibition devoted to the history of the Czech and Moravian Jews from the 18th century to present day. The Pincas Synagogue, dating from 1535, is the work of the Horowitz family. After the Second World War, the synagogue was turned into a Memorial to the Jews of Bohemia and Moravia murdered by the Nazis. The Old Jewish Cemetery, founded in the first half of the 15th century. The Klaus Synagogue, located at the entrance to the Old Jewish Cemetery, was the largest synagogue in the Jewish ghetto and the seat of Prague's Burial Society. It. houses a permanent exhibition entitled 'Jewish Customs and Traditions'. The Ceremonial Hall houses the second part of the exhibition 'Jewish Customs and Traditions'. We check into our hotel around noon. After lunch on your own in one of Prague s many fine cafes or restaurants, your afternoon is at leisure. You may be ready for a well-needed rest! Perhaps you simply want to grab a map and explore the neighborhood surrounding our hotel. Or you may want to take advantage of our being in Prague during the Christmas season. During all of December, the main Prague Christmas markets operate daily from 9am to 7pm at the Old Town Square & Wenceslas Square (with smaller ones at Namesti Republiky & Havelske Trziste). A 'winter wonderland' awaits, as visitors come to soak up the atmosphere, browse the stalls and enjoy Christmas carols, warm food and hot wine. This evening we can all welcome Shabbat together at the nearby Gothic Old-New Synagogue the oldest surviving synagogue to be found in Europe. We are planning on enjoying our Friday evening meal together (The cost of this meal has not been included in the quoted trip price).

3 Accommodations: Hotel Cloister Meals: Included Tours: The Jewish Town (half-day) DAY 3 Saturday, 12/22/07 - Prague After breakfast, we may join the Jews of Prague at Shabbat morning services at the Old-New Synagogue. You have the rest of your day and evening at leisure to get to better know this beautiful city of stone and spires. Prague was lucky to have avoided war destruction and radical interventions in its architecture, an effect seen in many European cities. Prague is located on a series of hills along both banks of the river Vltava. This natural situation and more than one thousand years of undisturbed architectural development promoted Prague to one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. Follow a guide book or simply roam through the narrow lanes of the Old Town and the Lesser Town and let yourself yield to the surprises your feet may carry you to. Be sure not to miss the Old Town Square - the historical center of Prague. The Gothic Town Hall there features a tower with a mechanical astronomical clock showing not only the time, but also the lunar cycle and the position of the planets. On the stroke of every hour the individual statuettes which adorn the clock are set in motion and a procession of twelve apostles can be seen in the tower windows. While wondering down the side streets near Old Town Square, you may happen across a statue of Rabbi Loew, creator of The Golem. Accommodations: Hotel Cloister DAY 4 Sunday, 12/23/07 - Terezin After breakfast this morning we will be leaving on our full-day guided tour of Terezin. Terezin is the place where German occupation during the Second World War induced the most tragic chapter, not only in the history of one town, but in the catastrophic fate of many thousands of innocent victims. Our guide will introduce us to the entire complex of this former Nazi concentration camp with narration including authentic personal memories, chilling experiences and episodes from Terezin s grim history. Dinner tonight will be in Prague on your own. Accommodations: Hotel Cloister

4 Included Tours: Terezin (full-day) DAY 5 Monday, 1 2/24/07 - Prague Spend a day exploring the beauty of Prague at your own pace or take a trip outside the city to one of the many castles, chateaux or historical towns nearby. Since tonight is Christmas Eve (and our last night in Prague), if you haven t yet done so, consider heading to Old Town Square for the Christmas Market which is open until 7pm. Prague Christmas markets consist of rows of brightly decorated wooden huts, selling Czech handicrafts, hot food (corn on the cob and local specialties) and warm drinks. You ll find a variety of Czech glass, wooden toys, scented candles, hand-made jewelry and, of course, puppets, always puppets! Stay until after dark to see the Christmas tree, shipped from the Sumava mountains in the South of the Czech Republic. Erected in the Old Town Square, the tree is draped in a blaze of lights. Set against a dark gothic skyline, this is a spectacular sight. We are planning to dine together for dinner in the only strictly kosher restaurant in Prague. (The cost of this meal has not been included in the quoted trip price.) Accommodations: Hotel Cloister DAY 6 Tuesday, 12/25/07 - Arrive in Kladno After breakfast we transfer our belongings and take a short ride to the city of Kladno. The Holocaust Torah that Congregation Beth El safeguards was originally from a synagogue in the greater Kladno region. The Former Jewish Synagogue is a New Renaissance style building dating from 1884, built by a Prague contractor E. Brandt on the site of an older Jewish house. The west facade is decorated by black marble plates with the golden inscription of the Ten Commandments on them. At the present time the building is the seat of the Hus Charge of the Czechoslovak Hussite Church.

5 Members of the Hussite community are very anxious to meet us! They are proud of their town and would like to give us a tour. They have invited us to view their Christmas worship service and want to include us in their customary celebrations. The first written evidence of Kladno dates back from the eve of the 14th century; it was a small village owned by the family Kladensti. The village changed ownership several times and slowly grew into a townlet. The rise and growth of coal mining and iron industry around 1850 led to a dramatic transformation of Kladno and its vicinity from an agricultural townlet to an important industrial region of Bohemia, promoting it to a town in Kladno was badly affected by the Nazi era. A part of Kladno s population was involved in several resistance movement groups; moreover, a lot of Kladno citizens fought bravely for the liberation of Czechoslovakia. During the war and post-war periods Kladno territory extended gradually to include neighboring communities, promoting it to the status of city, but ultimately under a communist regime. In November 1989, the city of Kladno and its citizens became a part of the restored democratic society of the Czech Republic. Today or tomorrow we hope to visit the old Jewish cemetery of Kladno, research historical records to learn about the Jews of the area, gather old photographs of the synagogue as it once was, take pictures of the town as it is today, etc. Accommodations: Hotel Kladno DAY 7 Wednesday, 12/26/07 - Kladno & Optional Departure for Israel Today we continue visiting with our new friends in Kladno. No doubt we have more research to do to better understand the community that once housed and worshiped from the Torah that has been entrusted to us. There are also several buildings of historical significance to see as well as some interesting parks. This is our last night together as a group, since some of us are continuing on to Israel. Travelers to Israel will be transported to the airport for their 11:55pm flight to Tel Aviv. Accommodations: Hotel Kladno to Israel) (for those NOT continuing on

6 DAY 8 Thursday, 12/27/07 - Depart Visitors to Israel arrive in Tel Aviv very early this morning. We hope you are fortunate enough to be visiting family and friends! A special Mazel Tov! to Zoe Yasky and her family who are visiting Israel in celebration of Zoe s Bat Mitzvah! Those of us in the Czech Republic transfer to the airport after breakfast for our 11:00am flight home. Hope you ve had a great time and taken plenty of pictures to preserve the memories! We are going to share recollections of our Czech exploration with the Congregation when we get home.... DAY 14 Wednesday, 1/2/08 - Visitors to Israel Depart For Home Arrive at the airport in time to catch your 11:00am flight to New York. You arrive at JFK at 2:15pm.
