2 Introduction Spatial statistics and econometrics include techniques and methods to model spatial data taking into account interaction (spatial spillover) effects and spatial heterogeneity. It is an active and fast growing area of research, spurred by the increasing availability of spatial data, i.e. georeferenced data. These techniques, many of which are still in their early development, use different analytic approaches and are applied in fields as different as economics, sociology, and geology. This four-day Training School aims at getting acquaintance with the techniques of spatial statistics and econometrics, along with the main issues posed by the statistical treatment of georeferenced data and by the construction and estimation of spatial econometric models. Students participating in the Training School will gain an up-to-date and accessible overview of the relevant theory as well as exposure to empirical applications in economics. All the lectures will share a hand-on approach, showing how to use statistical software (R) to analyze real-world cases. The ideal candidates for the Training School are Ph.D. students, Master students, post-doctoral fellows, and researchers in economics, sociology and statistics interested in the analysis of spatial data with particular reference to new economic geography and regional growth applications. Applications should include a CV and a research proposal and should be sent to Roberto Basile via (roberto.basile@unina2.it) by Dec 31, Upon acceptance, applicants receive an award letter by mid-january. COST pays accepted applicants a fixed amount as a contribution to expenses for travel, accommodation and meals: Local trainee (from Vienna): 100 National trainee (from Austria): 630 International trainee (other countries): 780. Payment will be made after the end of the training school.

6 General Information How to reach the WU o By Public Transport o By Car Campus WU is located between the two U2 subway stations Messe-Prater (exit Messe) and Krieau (exit Krieau). The Department Building 4 (D4) is closer to the station Messe Prater (a 5 minutes walk). One-way fare: 2,10 EUR, Tickets must be purchased from the ticket machine located at the entrance of each metro station. The underground parking garage is located under the main boulevard running through the campus. The entrance to the garage is on Trabrennstrasse. All exits of the garage lead to the outside, so that visitors can enter all campus buildings from their main entrances on the ground floor.
