4 What is Power Factor? Power factor for an AC powered system is defined as the ratio of the real power flowing to the load, to the apparent power in the circuit. PF is a dimensionless number between 0 and 1. Power Factor is unity (1) when the voltage and current are in phase. For two systems with the same real power, the system with the lower PF will have higher circulating currents (higher apparent power) 2013 Microchip Technology Incorporated.
