Representative Project UCDHSC Medical Campus For the University of Colorado at Denver (UCD) at the 9 th Avenue Campus, Walsh provided the following services: Inspection of 30 buildings (3 million square feet) for asbestos and other hazardous materials Management of seven Environmental Consulting Firms Completion of remediation designs Oversight of remediation performed by six Environmental Remediation Firms removing regulated asbestos containing material and other regulated building materials prior to demolition of the structures. Inspection, Design and Oversight. For UCD, Walsh addressed 30 buildings scheduled for renovation or demolition. We managed seven sub consultants and Walsh staff are provided inspection, design and oversight activities for this project. Requirements of the RFQ were to utilize other environmental consulting companies for a portion of the work. During the course of this project, we managed seven (7) Environmental Consulting Companies. The teams are screening for suspected LBP with a field XRF and are taking inventory of potentially hazardous materials including fluorescent lamps, PCB ballasts, smoke alarms/exit signs with radioactive sources, PCB transformers, mercury vapors, and batteries. Upon completion of the inspections, we produced technical specifications for remediation. We assissted the CMGC in the bidding and selection of abatement contractors and will provide the oversight during the abatement process. Deliverables for this project included inspection reports and extensive design documents and final closeout report. An interesting element of this project is the challenge of generating the standard operating removed laboratory hoods and ducts decontaminated radiological rooms Removed asbestoscontaining underground steam lines removed power plant remediated asbestos and leadbased paint in 23 buildings within orange line procedures for inspections, design, and oversight, then training the sub consultants on these procedures to ensure the standardization of the product delivered to the client. Removed and remediated 12 USTs and contaminated soil
Representative Project Asbestos/LBP/Hazardous Material Inspections, Design and Oversight Services for Colorado State University Rambouillet Room and Braiden Dining Hall Walsh performed a variety of asbestos and hazardous material services during remodeling activities of the Lory Student Center for Colorado State University (CSU). For the Rambouillet Room remodel project, the initial phase of the project included collecting confirmatory samples of suspect materials to determine asbestos content. The inspection team also compiled an inventory of potentially hazardous materials including fluorescent lamps, PCB ballasts, smoke alarms/exit signs with radioactive sources, fire suppression equipment and mercury containing thermostats. The second phase was to develop a scope Damaged block asbestos insulation on of work for the removal of materials to be affected by the complete grease hood specified for removal from renovation of the former kitchen, dining and meeting areas. The Rambouillet Room, CSU Campus. scope of work included a detailed specification including scheduling, drawings, contractor work practices, and regulatory requirements for completing the project. Walsh assisted during the walk through and helped CSU evaluate submitted bids. The third phase was to provide strategic onsite project management and conduct air monitoring for CSU. We performed similar activities during the Braiden Dining Hall Kitchen Remodel project in In addition, we conducted strategic project oversight/air monitoring and emergency asbestos spill response clearance sampling for CSU during the Lory Student Center Food Court and University Club renovation phases, respectively. Transit Center Walsh also provided asbestos consulting services to Colorado State University and the City of Fort Collins as joint stakeholders for the Transit Center Phase II project located on the northern side of the Lory Student Center. The construction project created a new entrance at the north end of the Lory Student Center, Recently completed Transit Center addition, CSU Campus. adding more than 14,000 square feet, renovating more than 7,000 square feet of existing space, and demolition of an existing building. We performed asbestos inspection, lead based paint screening, regulated building material survey activities, and prepared a detailed specification for abatement and provided project oversight and air monitoring activities during the demolition and renovation portion of the project.
Representative Project: Asbestos Services for Adams State College Walsh has provided industrial hygiene services to Adams State College for more than 10 years. Some example tasks follow. ES Building/Plachy Hall Gymnasium For a classroom/office building and gymnasium, WALSH performed confirmatory measurements of acoustical ceiling spray and 2 x 4 ceiling tiles to determine a scope of work for asbestos removal and for incorporation into a project design specification for the removal. Asbestos removal was being conducted to eliminate the need for small removal projects every time the college needed to repair plumbing and electrical systems above the contaminated ceilings. The design phase included a comprehensive specification including scheduling, project phasing, drawings, equipment staging, contractor work practices, and regulatory requirements for completing the project. The unique aspect of this project was the inclusion of replacement materials in the asbestos abatement contractor s contract. WALSH conducted the walk through and helped ASC evaluate bids. WALSH conducted air monitoring and construction management for ASC. After asbestos removal in the ES Building, the ceiling plaster was covered with new acoustical ceiling texture. Telecommunication Upgrade WALSH completed an asbestos and lead paint screen of all buildings on campus for inclusion in specifications for a campus wide telecommunications upgrade project. The inspection was intended to give contractors an idea of potential asbestos and lead hazards at each building s entry point and proposed cable run locations. The inspection allowed contractors to include pro active plans for avoiding known hazards and potential delays during the project. Business and Economics Building WALSH completed an asbestos and lead paint inspection and removal budget estimate for a planned renovation of the Business and Economics Building. After budget approval, WALSH completed design specifications for interior demolition and asbestos removal for use by the project architect. WALSH assisted the General Contractor in hiring an asbestos removal contractor to conduct both interior demolition and asbestos removal prior to renovation. Use of one company to perform both tasks for this project resulted in cost savings to the View of Business and Economics building college. WALSH was also onsite to perform construction after interior renovation and window removal. management services for the college, including environmental monitoring, negative exposure assessments, clearance monitoring, and project closeout documentation. The abatement and demolition portion of the project was completed on time and on budget.
Representative Project: Asbestos Services for Western State College Walsh Project Managers: Dan Benecke, Chris Thompson Walsh completed inspections and designs for removal of asbestos containing materials (ACM) and other hazardous materials and for demolition of four buildings at Western State College. This is part of a twophase project where new student housing is being constructed after the initial four buildings are demolished. The first phase was complete in The current phase includes inspection, design and project management for removal of ACM from five existing dormitories (Shavano Complex). After asbestos removal and demolition of the buildings a new field house and gymnasium will be constructed. The designs include information regarding ACM and other hazardous materials to be removed, estimates for removal, schedule, work procedures, inspections by owners, clearance criteria, project coordination, and bid information. Walsh also conducted the pre bid conference and walkthrough and assisted the college with bid evaluation. Photos show Beckwith Hall before and during demolition. Demolition Drawing indicating the extent of the project.
Representative Project: Asbestos Services for University of Colorado Colorado Springs The photos above show Main Hall with all floors removed after ACM removal. The remodeling is now complete. Walsh Project Managers: Dan Benecke and Chris Thompson Walsh completed an asbestos and lead paint inspection, completed design specifications, and managed the interior demolition and asbestos removal for Main Hall and Cragmor Halls on campus. Our services also included onsite construction management and air monitoring services during asbestos removal and demolition. Interior demolition of one of the structures consisted of removing walls and floors up to the outside shell of a four story wood framed building, requiring extensive shoring of exterior walls and completing the demolition in phases. This project was part of a historical preservation program at the campus, so special attention and care was required to preserve the original look of the buildings. The project started in December, 2000 and scheduled completion of asbestos removal and interior demolition occurred through April, Reconstruction of the interior was completed in April, The second building, Cragmor Hall, was scheduled to begin in April of 2002 but was delayed until 2004 due to funding constraints. Current Project: ACM Spill Response in North Nevada Building Photos show the roof, sample location and dust in hallways
