1 Lighting Showroom Lighting Requirements Introduction The Chevrolet Showroom Lighting Strategy consists of ambient and accent lighting strategically arranged to provide focused lighting on vehicles, customer touch points and graphics. The lighting plan utilizes energy efficient low wattage color corrected metal halide or integrated LED lamping. The goal of the lighting strategy is to present the Chevrolet vehicles to customers in the best possible light while achieving a measure of energy conservation. Lamping The required Metal Halide lamp technology is T6G12CMH. Integrated LED (non screw-in base type) is also an energy efficient and suitable appearance option that can be specified for use at dealer showroom facilities. Fixture and Performance The lighting is achieved through recessed adjustable commercial-grade units. The fixtures shall be fully adjustable with 358 degrees of rotation x 0-35 degrees of vertical aim (nadir). The typical fixture plan shall be aimed 30 degrees elevation and located 45 degree off axis (display). The fixture shall deliver the following minimum acceptable candela values, measured from nadir: 16,000 candela (or greater) at 30 degrees 15,000 candela (or greater) at 25 degrees 13,000 candela (or greater) at 35 degrees The showroom fixtures shall illuminate the displays and vehicles such that the minimum level foot-candles are achieved across the range of surfaces. Foot-candles on displays, maintained using.80 LLF 80/20/20 for modeling. The desired contrast ratio is as follows: Vehicles, Graphics, Displays : Floor and Walls (3:1 5:1) The fixture optics shall be lockable to ensure consistency while aiming and to maintain the retail showroom lighting integrity through re-lamping. The fixture shall have gaskets to ensure no visible light leaks. The fixture shall be equipped with Electronic ballast/drivers that may be serviced through the fixture aperture with electrical quick connects for ease of ballast maintenance. The customer connection made with a good lighting plan can influence emotion and enhance the car buying experience through a Dealership while driving more new car sales. Lighting for the Chevrolet program is provided through a national account managed by Wiedenbach Brown Inc. WB has worked with General Motors to develop a high performance cost effective lighting package for the Dealer that enhances the Chevrolet customer experience with maximum energy savings through operating efficiency. WB will develop a project specific lighting design for the site and interior of each project. The final lighting plan delivered will be engineered to meet the prototypical design consisting of Chevrolet compliant lighting equipment specified by WB and exclusively approved for the facility reimage program. WB has been retained by GM to provide these services for each project and there is no fee to the Dealer or Dealers consultants. Next Steps for the Dealers Electrical Engineer: The Electrical Engineer is responsible for the circuiting the WB lighting plan, developing the emergency lighting (path of egress), circuiting, energy calculations, code compliance, and lighting controls as required. All developed WB lighting plans, fixture specifications, technical information and pricing are the property of WB to be used as instruments of service for the Chevrolet program only. The Engineer will receive from WB a finalized lighting plan consisting of project specific lamp, ballast and fixture specifications engineered for the design. Design substitutions or product alternates are not approved by Chevrolet for the program. 52
