THE DESCRIPTION OF INDIVIDUAL SUBJECTS A DAY STUDIES ARTS EDUCATION WITHIN VISUAL ARTS THE SUBJECTS OF GENERAL EDUCATION COURSE TITLE: Aesthetics YEAR OF STUDY, SEMESTER: Year III - (Semester V) - Within the structure of 3-year studies, the course is realised in Year I (Semester I) NUMER OF CREDITS ECTS: 1 TEACHING METHODS: oral philosophy PREREQUISITES: Possession of basic knowledge in aesthetics. OBJECTIVE OF COURSE: Becoming familiar with aesthetic doctrines from the prehistoric times up until contemporary times. Formation of general humanistic intellectual awareness that contributes to the substantiation of attitudes and ability to distinguish the value of aesthetic phenomena. Strengthening of aesthetic sensitivity. COURSE CONTENTS: The lecture involves the aesthetics of ancient times, the aesthetics of modern times, contemporary aesthetics, including the 20th century aesthetics until postmodernism. COURSE TITLE: Philosophy and logics YEAR OF STUDY, SEMESTER: Year II - (Semester III, IV) - Within the structure of 3-year studies, the course is realised in Year I (Semester I, II) NUMER OF CREDITS ECTS: Year II (2 + 2), Year I (2 + 1) TEACHING METHODS: Oral, lecture philosophy PREREQUISITES: Possession of basic knowledge in philosophy. OBJECTIVE OF COURSE: Broad historical outline of European philosophical ideas, detailed characteristics of selected main philosophical ideas of the 20th century. Formation of basic skills of logical thinking. COURSE CONTENTS: The course involves the basic outline of the history of philosophy, the review of argumentative systems (practical logics) and issues of systematic philosophy. Strona 1/6

2 The historical and philosophical outline of the outlooks of Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, sceptics, St Augustine, St Thomas, Descartes, Berkeley, Kant, Hegel, Marx, Nietzsche, phenomenology, existentialism and post-modernist trends (definitions of a work of art, the theory of beauty, the theory of aesthetic values and aesthetic experience). The issues of systematic philosophy involve the outline of the human theory (biological level, mental level, overmental level) with focus on the specific personality of an artist. Basic knowledge of computer system and its functioning. Learning the structure of computer memory; logical and physical memory, memory kinds and the use of memory (read-only memory, discs). Learning the rules of the net and work in the net as well as improvement of its operation and the use of system applications. COURSE CONTENTS: The use of a computer as a source of information and tool for the processing of information. Creation of various computer documents in the available software, filing and sending documents. Operation of external computer devices: printer, scanner and digital camera. COURSE TITLE: Image editors YEAR OF STUDY, SEMESTER: Year II - (Semester II, IV) - Within the structure of 3-year studies, the course is realised in Year I (Semester II) NUMER OF CREDITS ECTS: Year II (1 + 1), Year I (2) TEACHING METHODS: practical NAME OF LECTURER: mgr Anna Sieczka PREREQUISITES: Basic knowledge of computer programmes OBJECTIVE OF COURSE: The Image editors course introduces full-time students who completed the course in IT basics into the wide range of issues concerning graphic design and prepares for the practical actions in this field. Classes aim at making students familiar with the construction of programmes for vector editing and raster (bitmap) editing, such as Corel (Corel Draw, Corel Photo Paint, Corel Trace) and Photoshop. Course participants realise the tasks with graded difficulty. Exercises are supposed to familiarise participants with the functioning of graphic software, prepare for the implementation of projects and basic forms of publishing graphics and graphic design. The acquired skills will form a basis for other courses in computer graphic design. As a result of the organised educational process, the student should: Strona 3/6

4 - get to know the rules, techniques of construction, techniques of collection, sending, exchange of visual messages with the use of media techniques. - describe the rules for using computer equipment, printers, plotters, scanners, camcorders, digital cameras. - explain the concepts, definitions and terminology used for digital image processing. - define concepts from the theory of information, discretisation and digitalisation of signals. - describe the rules and methods for processing digital pictures and saving, compressing, tranfer and visualisation of the pictures with the use of printers and videoprinters. - describe hybrid methods for obtaining photos and other images. - define the possibilities of graphical interface that enables the realisation of particular tasks. - explain the application of basic laws of physics and mathematics for the digital image processing. - use standard software for saving and processing images Image parameters setting. (Exercise: image of a dice) - Text editing /Paragraph text and ornamental text/ Object management /Welding, cutting, joint space. Using object manager. Exercise: image of an Olympic flag. Bit maps. - Bit maps routing, modifying bit maps, correction or adjustment of image tones. The use of special effects for bit maps. Techniques of filling objects with bit maps. Import, export and joining objects. Raster editing. Photoshop /Presentation of the work area. Working with graphic image files. Working with the image view, Selecting the image filling. /changing the fill of the image, copying and pasting the selected area, using the palette from the History palette. 5 YEAR OF STUDY, SEMESTER: Year III - (Semester V) NUMER OF CREDITS ECTS: 1 TEACHING METHODS: server and practical pedagogy PREREQUISITES: Basic knowledge of music. OBJECTIVE OF COURSE: Gaining elementary knowledge of the history of music (with listening to pieces of music), particularly the history of Polish music, including Polish folk music. Mastering basic knowledge of musicology and the elements of music aesthetics. COURSE CONTENTS: The course is devoted to varied phenomena that create musical culture. Emphasis is placed on the presentation of the history of music, both international and Polish (e.g. Chopin, old Polish music). Other issues discussed involve music aesthetics, analytical penetration of selected musical forms, issues concerning the specificity and history of jazz, general description of musicological studies. Audio presentation of pieces of music constitutes an integral part of the lecture. In the contemporary world the integration of different fields of art takes place very fast. More and more often and more and more eagerly artists attempt to combine even totally different fields of art. The possibility of combining visual arts with music is nothing new (e.g. 'Meeting with Arts organised for the last few years by WSLiZ are events with music integrated with visual arts, Grzegorz Sztwiertnia s paintings emitting sounds etc.). This course is supposed to be helpful for arts teachers, artist-educators and promoters of creative actions. It is aimed at familiarising students with the methodology of teaching music and literature, among other issues. This integration is wider in range as it may involve film (video - art), nature (land - art), human body (body - art, performance, happening), speech and written word (performance, happening), theatre (stage design and costumes) etc. COURSE CONTENTS: Transformation of speech (a short literary piece; fairy tale or poem) to an image. Translation of a literary work to an image with the use of the minimum of formal resources. Attention to retaining the clear main problem of the text and its universality in the transformed visual form. Selection of an appropriate work for the transformation. Strona 5/6
