1 SYLLABUS COURSE TITLE Elements of European Cultural History DEPARTMENT Faculty of Physical Education COURSE CODE DEGREE PROGRAMME FACULTY QUALIFICATION LEVEL STUDY MODE Physical Education 1st level Full-time (undergraduate studies) COURSE FORMAT Additional studies YEAR AND SEMESTER 1 st year, 1 st semester COURSE COORDINATOR Mgr Agnieszka Huzarska INSTRUCTOR(S) Mgr Agnieszka Huzarska COURSE OBJECTIVES This course offers the serious student the opportunity to explore the cultural history of Europe from ancient times to the present. Through readings, research, slides and videos, students will be provided with some of the major landmarks in European cultural and intellectual history. Course objectives - to provide students with: understanding of the historical foundations in Europe understanding the historical and cultural challenges Europe faced in the past promoting the importance of cultural history in engaging students with moral, social and cultural issues the ability define the most important points in cultural history in Europe the ability to recognize that some differences among people stem from cultural history understanding of the role of religion in the development of human civilization the ability to build an understanding of the cultural and social development of human civilization the ability to interpret past events involving human beings through the social, cultural, and political milieu PREREQUISITES TIME AND ECTS CREDIT POINTS Basic knowledge of European history and geography Lecture 5 hours, class 10 hours, 2 ECTS By the completion of this course: LEARNING OUTCOMES KNOWLEDGE: 1. K_W01 the student knows and understands the terms relating to cultural history, including physical education 2. K-W12 the student has general knowledge of cultural history 3. K_W01 the student knows cultural heritage institutions and basic terms used to talk about SKILLS: 1. K_U06 the student can use various resources in order to find information, they know how to

K_U06 the student can prepare and present the results of their projects, they can use audio and equipment. 3. K_U19 the student can make use of source materials and draw conclusions. COURSE ORGANISATION LEARNING FORMAT AND NUMBER OF HOURS Lecture: 5 hours Class: 10 hours 2 ECTS COURSE DESCRIPTION OUTLINE OF THE COURSE LECTURES: 1 Cultural history significance, basic cultural concepts,timelines 1 hrs 2 Europe and origins of Europe. 1 hrs 3 The concept of cultural heritage. Cultural heritage institutions. 1 hrs 4 Religions in Europe and their role in shaping different European cultures. 1hrs 5 Diversity in European cultures. 1 hrs OUTLINE OF THE COURSE CLASSES: 1 Ancient cultures. 2 hrs 2 The culture of Middle Ages. 2 hrs 3 The significance of the Renaissance for the European development. 1 hrs 4 New ideas in political and social theory in the Age of Reason. 1 hrs 5 The culture of the XIX century 1 hrs 6 Dynamic cultural development in the XX century Europe. 2 hrs 7 Excursion to the Underground Tourist Route in Rzeszów. 1hrs METHODS OF INSTRUCTION REQUIREMENTS AND ASSESSMENTS Lectures,, essay The final grade is based on: final test (40%), group project (30%), essay (20%), taking part in group (10%). The marks are converted into percentage.

K-W12 the student has general knowledge of cultural history 3. K_W01 the student knows cultural heritage institutions and basic terms used to talk about 1. K_U06 the student can use various resources in order to find information, they know how to select information about culture and present it to other students using various techniques and the form of an essay. 2. K_U06 the student can prepare and present the results of their projects, they can use audio and equipment.
