2 OC Orthopaedics: 3 levels of care Physical Therapist (PT) Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) Physical Therapy Aide
3 Physical Therapy Daily routine Day begins at 6:30 am and finishes about 7:00 pm. Hours include evenings and weekends 2 to 3 hours of paperwork a day The hours and days that Physical Therapist work will vary with the facility. Responsibilities include patient evaluation, treatment and management. Must be sensitive to patients conditions. Must be able to multi task and plan ahead. Be a good listener. Education and Salary State License after 6-7 years of education College (2-3 years post graduate education Start at $25/hr and up to six figures.
4 PHYSICAL THERAPIST ASSISTANT (PTA) PTA Perform Tasks Under supervision of physical therapists. They provide part of a patient s treatment. This involves exercises, massages, electrical stimulation, paraffin baths, hot and cold packs, traction, and ultrasound. PTA s record the patients responses to treatment, report outcome to physical therapist. PTA cannot evaluate or change treatment plans. Can work without a therapist present. Education and Salary 2 year accredited program Able to give hands-on care under direction of the therapist. Can not do evaluations or change treatment plans. Can work without a therapist present. $15-30/hr
5 Physical Therapist Aide Education and Salary No college education required Obtain on-the-job experience Can do limited hands-on care under the direct supervision of the PT Minimum wage and up based on experience Physical Therapist Aide Make therapy sessions productive. Under direct supervision of a physical therapist or physical therapist assistant. Duties of Aides Clerical tasks, ordering depleted supplies, answering the phone, filling out insurance forms and other paperwork. Extent an aide performs clerical tasks depends on the size and location of the facility.
6 Medical and Health Service Manager Nature of Work Manage Plan Direct and coordinate Supervise delivery of health care Workers are Specialists Charge of specific clinical departments or generalist who manage entire facility or system.
7 EDUCATION FOR MEDICAL AND HEALTH SERVICE MANAGEMENT A bachelor s degree is adequate for entrylevel positions in smaller facilities In physicians offices, on the job experience may substitute for formal education Master degree is the standard credential for most generalist positions.

10 Typical Day Verifying insurance for surgical cases Scheduling surgeries Taking pre operative health histories Going over surgical orders with patients Acting as liaison between Physician offices Hospital Surgical center Insurance companies Supply companies General public Trouble shooting in any area that is needed

14 Major Areas of Practice Dietitian Provides services for hospitals and nursing homes Community Dietitian Counsel individuals and groups, work in public health clinics, home health agencies and health maintenance organizations.
