2 Notepad Basics Create a Notepad: From the home page, tap Notepads. Tap Tap to create a New Notepad. to open the notepad. Page # Indicator Text-to-speech Home Spell Check Area Tap to select the word Tap to hear the word Delete Keyboard # Indicator Return Numerals & Symbols Keyboard Down Type: New notepads open with a QWERTY keyboard that can be used to start typing. Type uppercase: Tap the Shift key, then tap the letter. Quickly insert a period and a space: Double-tap the space bar. Scroll between linked keyboards: Swipe left or right to move between keyboards. 2 Page

3 Position the Insertion Point: Tap once to place the insertion point in a line of text. Move the Insertion Point: Touch and hold to bring up the magnifying glass, then drag to position the insertion point. Select a word: Double-tap the word. Select a paragraph: Triple-tap anywhere within the paragraph. Cut or Copy Text: Select the word, then drag the grab point to select more or less text. Tap cut or copy. Paste Text: Position the insertion point, then tap Paste. Get the definition of a word: Select the word, then tap Define (not always available). Get alternative words: Select a word, then tap Suggest (not always available). Speak and highlight text: tap. Tap it again to stop. 3 Page

4 Notepad Settings Access settings: in the notepad, tap. Change keyboards: Tap Keyboards, then tap to select the keyboard or keyboard folder. Folders contain multiple keyboards that are linked to one another. All the keyboards that you make in the Keyboard Editor can be accessed from here. Edit Pages: Tap Pages. Select a page: Tap the page. Deselect a page: Tap the selected page or tap another page. Change font, font size, font color and page color: Select the page, then tap the icon (see below). Add image: Select the page, then add an image from the ipad library or the Abilipad library. Move a page: Select the page, and then use to move it. It can move one space at a time. 5 Set text-to-speech: Tap Preferences, and then select to speak letters, words and / or sentences as you type. AAMode places an next to the so that text can be deleted quickly. 6 Keyboard Editor From the page, tap Keyboards Tap the to create a New Keyboard. Tap to open the Keyboard Editor: Use these characters to enter the text. Create your keyboard In this space. Tap keys to select them. Delete Font Audio Merge Delete Undo Space Color Font Size Add image Unmerge Clear Redo Select keys: Tap the key. Up to two keys can be selected at a time. Deselect keys: Tap the selected key to deselect it. 6 Page

7 Insert text into keys: Select the key, then use the characters at the top to type letters, words, sentences, numerals and characters. Change letter case: Tap. Insert a space: Tap to insert a space on a key. If you insert a space at the end of a word or sentence, the space will be automatically be inserted when typing in the notepad, thereby reducing keystrokes. Delete text: Tap to delete text while the key is selected. After you leave a key, you will need to use the X to clear the text. Merge cells: Tap adjacent cells, then tap. Two keys can be merged at a time. Unmerge Cells: Tap the merged cell, then tap. Add Images to keys: Select a key, then tap. Choose pictures from your ipad or from the Abilipad Library. For larger images, first merge the keys. Crop Image: Use Apple s Photo app > select the photo > tap EDIT, and then CROP. Drag the corners of the grid, drag the photo to reposition it, and then tap Crop. To set a specific ratio, tap Constrain. Audio: Tap the to start recording and the to stop. Tap the to play the audio. Recorded audio will play when the key is tapped in the notepad. Color the grid, key and color: Tap text, background or grid, then select a basic color, custom color or use color templates. DEFAULT GRID COLOR Tip: use this color it you want the background of your keys to blend in with the grid color Select the area to color Select ON if you want to apply a color only to select key(s) Change the color of the text and background for individual keys: Select keys, then set Apply only to selected keys to ON position, then choose colors. 7 Page

8 Clear key: select the key, then tap to remove all the text and images from a key. Delete keys: select the key, then tap. Note that once a keyboard is saved, you cannot restore a deleted key. If you want more flexibility you can match the background color of the key to that of the grid, as this has the same effect as deleting it. Undo / Redo: tap to undo or redo up to 10 actions Editing a Saved Keyboard If you want to keep your original keyboard, first make a copy of it before making changes to it. Copy the keyboard: open the folder, tap EDIT on the homepage, select the keyboard, tap and DONE. Make changes to the keyboard: Select the keyboard, edit it, and return to the home page. 8 Page

9 Getting Organized Use folders to organize notepads and keyboards on the home page. Instructions related to notepads and keyboards are the same for this section. Import from Dropbox or Abilipad Library & Tutorials Switch between Notepad and Keyboard views Switch to Edit Mode Create a New Notepad Tap on the name to change it Create a folder: Touch and hold the notepad, then drag it on top of another. Open a folder: Tap the folder. Close a folder: Tap outside the folder. Add a notepad to a folder: Touch and hold the notepad, then drag it onto the folder. Remove a notepad from a folder: Touch and hold the notepad, then drag it out of the folder. Delete a folder: Move all notepads out of the folder. The folder is automatically deleted. 9 Page

10 Rename a folder, notepad or keyboard: Tap the name field and enter a new one. Place notepads in a specific order in the folder: Tap the name field. Place numbers in front of the names, or name the notepads alphabetically. Copying a Notepad: Tap, then select the notepad, tap. Tap DONE. Deleting a Notepad: Tap, then select the notepad, tap. 11 Sharing Your Work Share a notepad: If a notepad is inside a folder, first tap the folder to open it. Tap notepad, then via or Dropbox., select the Share a keyboard folder: Tap, select the folder, then via or Dropbox. This function applies only to keyboard folders, not notepad folders. Share your work online: If a notepad is inside a folder, first open the folder. Tap notepad, tap, then tap Abilipad Library. Complete all the fields, then tap SUBMIT., select the Important Notes: These are Abilipad files. Therefore only Abililpad users will be able to open and download them on their ipads. In notepads, under, there is an option to the notepad text and pictures. If a Notepad has a corresponding keyboard or keyboards, they will be sent together. Shared files are reviewed and edited (if necessary), before being posted online where other users can download it. Only share your own original work. 11 Page

12 Importing a Document Download from an Open the on your ipad, tap on the attachment and then select Open in Abilipad. Download from Dropbox: Tap, tap Dropbox, then select the file. Notepads are delivered singly on the home page, whereas keyboards are delivered in a New Folder because multiple keyboards may accompany a notepad. Download from Abilipad library: Tap view selected files. Tap DOWNLOAD., select Abilipad Library, browse through the library. Tap to 12 Page
