3 Foreword DB Systemtechnik: Technical expertise for the worldwide market of railway DB Systemtechnik, the engineering centre for Deutsche Bahn AG, is one of Europe s biggest centres of excellence on railway technology. DB Systemtechnik is a high-performing, customerdriven service provider that, as well as authoritatively serving the DB Group by dint of its specialist knowledge is also increasingly active on the global railway market. With technical units and 18 test centres, DB Systemtechnik covers a wide range of railway engineering. 780 employees deal with the orders placed by our customers at home and abroad. Two business segments ensure that customer enquiries are addressed in a professional manner. The engineering services segment focuses primarily on looking after our customers' fleets of rolling stock. We provide advice in procurement, operation and maintenance and also when it comes to the redesign of rolling stock. The segment for approval manage - ment, tests and certification offers all kinds of testing for components and whole vehicles. DB Systemtechnik guarantees its customers independence, neutrality and confidentiality in respect of work. 6 The DB Systemtechnik in Europe With its English subsidiary Engineering Support Group (ESG) and the Notified Body Railway Approvals Ltd. (RAL) DB System - technik aims to become the leading provider of railway engineering and testing services in Europe. Railway Approvals now in Minden RAL is a Notified Body (NoBo) which is an organisation that has been accredited by an EU Member State to assess whether a product meets certain defined standards. 7 The DB Systemtechnik in Europe DB Systemtechnik office Paris In order to do a better job of processing existing orders, DB Systemtechnik opened an office in Paris in June 2012 of this year. Employing French staff enables us to significantly improve the quality of the service we provide. Following pilot measurement runs in France and the establishment of rules and regulations for homologation services, we are now in a position as the first non-french company to perform trials related to vehicle approvals in France solely with our own experts.
