1 National Institute of Animal Welfare (a subordinate office of Ministry of Environment & Forests, Government of India) About NIAW National Institute of Animal Welfare (NIAW) is established as subordinate office of the Government of India under Ministry of Environment and Forests in the sprawling campus of 8 acres of land at Ballabhgarh, Faridabad, Haryana, in the NCT of Delhi. With the mandate of promoting animal welfare in the country, Government of India conceived and established this national institute with the purpose of fostering knowledge and training to personnel s working with animals in the state veterinary departments, municipal corporations, forensic labs, forestry departments, laboratories dealing with animal experimentation, sanctuaries, animal houses/ shelters, pharmaceuticals, diagnostic labs, nominees of Animal Welfare Board of India, CPCSEA members, SPCA members, institutional animal ethics committee, NGOs registered with Animal Welfare Board of India, students graduated in Veterinary and Animal Sciences, fisheries sciences, wild life sciences, biological sciences etc. The Ministry of Environment and Forests has entrusted the task of implementing the education and training programmes at the NIAW through Educational Consultants India Limited (Ed.CIL). Ed.CIL Educational Consultants India Limited (Ed.CIL), A Government of India Enterprise under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, which is the premier consulting and think tank organization for the education sector in the country. Ed.CIL offers technical services in the education and social sectors from conceptualization to turnkey implementation of educational institutions. For the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Ed.CIL conducts the following education and training programmes for the current academic year Education and Training in Animal Welfare NIAW is conducting three training programmes each of 1-week, 2-weeks and 4-weeks durations in the current year for in-service and NGO personnel. The details of these programme are available in the Training Calendar. The areas to be covered in each of the training include the following: One-week training programme Animal Welfare and Rights Two weeks training programme Animal Welfare and Jurisprudence

2 Animal Welfare Board of India Rules for recognition of Animal Welfare Organizations (AWO), Setting up of an AWO, Provisions of various animal welfare schemes, Up keep of animal house facility, Other animal welfare activities, Management of animal shelter house, Animal birth control and Immunization programme. Four weeks training programme Animal Welfare Animal Welfare Board of India Rules for recognition of Animal Welfare Organizations (AWO), Setting up of an AWO, Provisions of various animal welfare schemes, Up keep of animal house facility, Other animal welfare activities, Management of animal shelter house, Animal birth control and Immunization programme. Management of breeding house, Breeding Rules in details, Facility for animal rehabilitation, Use of animals in agricultural and related research, Up keep of wild animals, Latest developments in animal welfare concepts and alternatives to use of animals in scientific experiments, Filing of FIR in cases involving cruelty to animals, Business opportunities in animal care, SPCA and its role, Key, Judicial pronouncements in animal welfare, and organizing animal care and animal welfare camps. These training programmes are envisaged to benefit the employees of state and central government working with animals and related activities in state veterinary departments, forensic labs, forestry departments, laboratories dealing with animal experimentation, sanctuaries, animal houses/ shelters, pharmaceuticals, diagnostic labs, nominees of Animal Welfare Board of India, CPCSEA members, SPCA members, institutional animal ethics committee, NGOs registered with Animal Welfare Board of India, students graduated in Veterinary and Animal Sciences, fisheries sciences, wild life sciences, biological sciences and related areas who are desirous to gain knowledge, information and skills in animal welfare. Training Calendar The annual training calendar along with specified dates are illustrated in Annexure I. How to apply Please fill the nomination form and put tick in the type of training you wish to attend and mail well in advance to the following address by post/ / fax. How to reach NIAW You can reach NIAW following the guide map illustrated in Annexure II. Participants shall remit the fees through, a Pay Order/Demand Draft payable at Delhi/New Delhi in favour of "Pay & Accounts Officer, Ministry of Environment & Forests, New Delhi" Personnel working in the government (state or central) are exempted from payment of
