2 Summer Spanish Language Study Program San Sebastián lies just 13 miles west of the French border, within the Basque Country. This beautiful city, which is surrounded by green mountains, offers beautiful beaches, mountaintop parks with amazing views, great shopping, restaurants, churches and bakeries. An easy city to navigate and travel by foot, San Sebastián is a wonderful place to learn Spanish and Spanish culture, and to experience the Basque culture at its best! Tentative Program Highlights: San Sebastián orientation tour Four and a half hours per day of Spanish instruction (8-12 students per class) at the Lacunza International House language school Home stays with Spanish families Four to five transferable semester units Weekend excursion to Barcelona Day excursions to Biarritz, St. Jean de Luc, Bilbao, and Guernica Attendance at cultural activities plus local visits to monuments, galleries, and museums Optional travel to other historic sites and countries after the program ends

3 Program Director Mr. Roberto Robledo, program director and professor of Spanish and English as a Second Language, has been a member of the Santa Barbara City College faculty since He has a B.A. and an M.A. in Spanish from California State University at Long Beach. Professor Robledo has directed eleven summer programs for the college and took the first group of SBCC students abroad in In 1997, he directed SBCC s Spanish Language Study in Santander, Spain, in 2001 in Málaga, Spain, in 2005 in Santiago de Compostela, Spain, and in the summer of 2006, he directed a program in Costa Rica. In the summer of 2007, he directed SBCC's first summer program in San Sebastián, Spain.

4 Program Requirements: One semester of Spanish is recommended but not required. If you are currently enrolled at another school, you will enroll at SBCC for the summer session. Students accepted to this program are required to attend a mandatory pre-departure meeting, which is usually held in May. Students must be at least 18 years on the date of departure. A twenty-student minimum is required or the program is subject to cancellation. Who May Participate? College and university students, graduate students, high school seniors, and professionals in education, nursing, law enforcement and other fields who desire to become bilingual or improve their Spanish skills. Applicants do not need to be currently enrolled at SBCC. Courses and Credits: All units are normally transferable with the exception of Spanish 120. Check with your counselor for possible. exceptions. Course Name Units Spanish 101, 102, 103, or Spanish 150 or Total semester units 4-5 Financial Aid: Financial Aid is not awarded for summer programs; however, if you need assistance you may want to visit the SBCC Financial Aid Office to inquire about loans. Information Meetings: Information meetings will be scheduled in the fall and the spring. Visit the SBCC Study Abroad website for dates and locations. Parents are welcome.

5 Application Procedure: We encourage early application as the number of places in the program is limited. In addition, early application allows you more time to plan for the trip. Application forms will be available in the fall from the Study Abroad Office, Mr. Robledo, and online at the Study Abroad Office. An interview with the program director will be scheduled upon receipt of your application and deposit. If you live outside the Santa Barbara area, the director will interview you by telephone. Scholarships Travel and Housing: Registering with Tour Resource Consultants: SBCC has contracted with Tour Resource Consultants (TRC) to provide travel and housing arrangements for the program. After you are accepted by SBCC to the program, you will register online with TRC and receive payment, housing and travel arrangement information from them. You will not be officially part of the program until we have received confirmation from TRC that you have registered and paid your deposit. Transportation: An optional group flight will be arranged by TRC at a supplemental cost. Information on the group flight will be available later on this fall. Housing: Program participants will be housed with a host family in San Sebastian and in a hotel (double occupancy for both) in Barcelona. If you are eligible for financial aid during the semester, you are encouraged to apply for a Benjamin A. Gilman scholarship which can be worth up to $3,000. Go to to learn more. The application deadline is March 1 st. Apply early and even before you have been accepted to the study abroad program. If you would like to apply for a SBCC scholarship, please pick up a scholarship application form in the SBCC Study Abroad Office or you may download it from the study abroad website. The deadline for submission for summer programs is May 1 st. Award amounts vary according to the number of qualified applicants.

6 ITINERARY: DEPART FROM LOS ANGELES Day 1: Saturday, July 4 Transfer on own to Los Angeles Airport for flight to Bilbao, Spain. Meals: In-Flight ARRIVE BILBAO, SPAIN TRANSFER TO SAN SEBASTIAN Day 2: Sunday, July 5th Upon arrival at Bilbao Airport, a private transfer will be waiting to take the group to nearby San Sebastian to rendezvous with host families on campus. Dinner will be with host family. Meals: In-Flight and Dinner SAN SEBASTIAN Days 3-28: Monday, July 6th- Friday, July 31 Breakfast and dinner will be with host family.. A total of 90 hours of Spanish language instruction will be offered at Lacunza San Sebastian Language Institute 4½ hours per day, 22 ½ Hours per week, Monday through Friday, for four weeks (20 days). Class schedule is 9:30am-11:00am and 11:30am-1:00pm for group classes (8 to12 students), and 1:15pm-2:45pm for mini-group classes (3 to 8 students). During program the following excursions will be organized for the group on weekends: o Half-Day San Sebastian Orientation Walking Tour, conducted by Lacunza staff o Full-Day Biarritz Tour Eight Hours beach and shopping -- with private motorcoach and guide o Full-Day Guernica Peace Museum/Guggenheim Museum Tour Eight Hours including admission to Guggenheim Museum and walking tour of the city with private motorcoach and guide

7 o Three Day, Two Night Barcelona Excursion departing Friday afternoon following class, returning Sunday evening, with private motorcoach and guide to accompany group round-trip from San Sebastian. Excursion will include round-trip private motorcoach charter, two nights at the Guillermo Tell Hotel including breakfast, welcome dinner and 1 ½ days sightseeing in Barcelona, including admission to Sagrada Familia, Cathedral de Barcelona and Parc Guell. Meals: Breakfast and Dinner (no dinner second night in Barcelona) SAN SEBASTIAN BILBAO LOS ANGELES Day 29: Saturday, August 1st Breakfast with host family, time permitting. Early morning transfer from San Sebastian to Bilbao for return flight to Los Angeles. Meals: In-Flight

8 Land Program Price Includes: 27 nights home stay accommodation on a twin bedded room including daily breakfast AND dinner with the host family in San Sebastian (excludes dinner one night in Barcelona). Roundtrip private transfers from the Bilbao Airport to Lacunza San Sebastian. Meet and Greet assistance provided upon arrival into Bilbao. A total of 90 hours of Spanish language instruction at Lacunza San Sebastian Language Institute 4 ½ hours per day, 22 ½ Hours per week, Monday through Friday, for four weeks (20 days). 11 General Terms & Conditions RESERVATIONS & PAYMENTS: To register for this program: A $500 deposit is required by Friday, April 3, Balance Due/ Final Payment by Friday, May 1, Deposit payments may be made by Credit Card and Debit Card through our website. If website payment is unavailable, please contact Tour Resource Consultants LLC ( TRC ) to learn about procedures for tendering payment. Personal checks and alternative methods of payment (such as PayPal) will not be accepted for initial deposit. Late registrations may be subject to a Late Registration Fee of $200. If you fail to make any required deposit or payment on time, a Late Fee of $200 may be imposed. If the Balance Due is not paid by the payment deadline, a Late Payment Fee of $200 will be imposed. CANCELLATIONS: All cancellations must be submitted in writing to TRC, and are subject to the terms of the Agreement for Services with your educational institution. The cancellation date is the date on which TRC receives the signed written notification of the intent to cancel at its place of business. 12 More Terms & Conditions REFUNDS All refunds will be based upon the cancellation schedule provided above. Refunds may take 30 days or longer to process. No refunds will be made until payments are recovered by Tour Resource Consultants LLC from its suppliers. No refunds will be made on any services, meals or accommodations resulting from a participant s absence from the tour itinerary or from the non-utilization of these program components by the participant. TOUR PRICES All rates, quoted in U.S. dollars, are based upon the exchange rate reflected in the group s tour proposal. The price will be adjusted and may increase if group airfare reservations, air taxes/fuel surcharges, international tariffs or currency exchange rates are revised. Your study-abroad administrator, teacher or group leader will advise you of any such changes. TRAVEL DOCUMENTS U.S. citizens are required to possess a valid passport for international travel. Please see our website, for resources helpful in applying for passports and renewing passports, as well as other valuable resources. In some instances visas may be required. Holders of U.S. passports and passports of countries other than the United States should inquire about individual visa requirements from the consular offices of the countries in which they will be traveling. Tour Resource Consultants LLC does not assume responsibility for obtaining passports or visas, nor responsibility if participants do not acquire the required documentation and must cancel participation in the program as a result. Cancellation fees stated above will still apply.

13 More Terms & Conditions PROPERTY DAMAGES Any damages to homestay, apartment hotel premises are the sole responsibility of the tour participant and participant agrees to indemnify and hold Tour Resource Consultants LLC harmless from such claims and damages. ONLINE REGISTRATION Updated itineraries and important notices for this group will be posted on the TRC website, in a secure members area of the website exclusively for this group. The secure members area for this group is accessible only to registered members of this group. Please ask your professor, study abroad administrator, or group leader for the unique tour code for this group. 15 How your deposits are protected with TRC Escrow Protection. Pursuant to its registration under the California Sellers of Travel Law (CST# ), Tour Resource Consultants LLC ( TRC ) has voluntarily chosen to deposit 100% of all credit card payments received from you via our website or checks received from your study-abroad program or tour directly into a Trust Account. This means that such funds will be separate and apart from the operating funds of Tour Resource Consultants LLC. Tour Resource Consultants LLC has also agreed to allow an independent Certified Public Accountant to review its financial receipts records for various dates randomly selected by the CPA during the prior year to verify its compliance with this procedure. How Deposits/Payments received are Protected. When TRC receives your funds through this website, they are automatically deposited into a Trust Account. If Tour Resource Consultants LLC is providing air transportation on a scheduled air carrier as a part of the tour package, TRC will pay the air carrier for your ticket in advance of your scheduled departure date. In addition, TRC will pre-pay all hotels, meals, land transportation and/or providers of travel services and other components of your studyabroad program or tour insofar as it is feasible and practical. Only after all such expenses for the program or tour are paid will the remaining funds be transferred to the regular funds of Tour Resource Consultants LLC.

16 What is not protected. The Trust Account maintained by TRC does not protect you or any provider of travel services from loss (monetary or otherwise) resulting from the following: Your cancellation or interruption of your trip for any reason including death, injury, illness of you or a family member. However, all of TRC s study-abroad programs and tours include group travel insurance policies which provide some coverage for trip cancellation and trip interruption. See Travel Insurance pages, above. Any delays in delivering any of the travel services. Any disputes involving TRC or any provider of travel services regarding the type or quality of services promised or rendered. Funds (including credit card payments) not received and collected by TRC. Travel agent payments through a miscellaneous charge order (MCO) unless Tour Resource Consultants LLC advances its own funds into the Trust Account to cover the MCO or the proceeds of the MCO are received by TRC prior to the date of your departure. Failure of you or your travel agent to make a timely claim for a refund in the unlikely event of a default by the airline or TRC. The air carrier ceases to operate after TRC has paid for your airline ticket. The payment of funds to your travel agent for services not provided by Tour Resource Consultants LLC, including in some cases, airline tickets. Various types of travel insurance programs are available to protect you from some of the above losses. All of TRC s study-abroad programs and tours include group travel insurance policies. See Travel Insurance pages, above. The Trust Account maintained by TRC does not guarantee payment to any party which provides travel services to you.
