Please, read this information carefully and make sure you don t miss any deadlines. How to get to Luleå The International Office will not make travel arrangements for you. Be aware of that the distance from Stockholm to Luleå is km. Make sure that you have changed money in to SEK, you will need cash in order to transport yourself from the airport, train station etc. NOTE! You will not be picked up at the airport, train station, bus station etc. By plane The two airlines flying from Stockholm Arlanda airport are Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) and Nordic Airlink. Their flight schedules can be viewed at: and IMPORTANT! You must take your luggage through customs in Stockholm! Your luggage will NOT be routed directly to Luleå from your home country. If you don t take it through customs in Stockholm yourself, it will still be in Stockholm when you arrive to Luleå. Flying Stand By To fly stand- by means flying without a ticket booked in advance. If you are planning to fly stand-by from Stockholm to Luleå you can only buy that ticket at Arlanda airport in Stockholm. The ticket costs 200 SEK and can only be used by persons under 26 years of age. You have to buy the ticket in a special ticket machine marked Ungdomsbiljett, if possible try to have exact change. After you have bought the ticket you have to wait for a free seat in a plane flying to Luleå, go to the gate and wait there; the staff will announce the stand by seats after everyone with a booked seat is onboard. Generally, on Fridays and Sundays it s difficult to fly stand-by. It can also be difficult to get seats at the beginning and end of a semester, since a lot of students are travelling to and from Luleå during this time. From the airport in Luleå In Luleå, the airport bus leaves app 15 minutes after arrival (only planes from Stockholm) and it costs 45 SEK. The cost for a taxi from the airport to the centre of Luleå is app 200 SEK and to the university app 250 SEK.

3 By train The train company that frequents Luleå is called Connex. For timetables and more information have a look on ( click on Norrlandstågen in English for information in English) From the train station in Luleå The easiest is to take a taxi from the train station to the university, housing agency or hotel you are going to the first day in Luleå. By bus There are buses going to Luleå from Stockholm City. You will have to take the airport bus/airport train to Cityterminalen in the centre of Stockholm. The bus company that takes you from Stockholm to Luleå is called Tapanis, their web page is (only in Swedish). There are only one bus on Friday and one on Sunday afternoon/evening. For more information please call: + 46 (0) The bus trip from Stockholm to Luleå will take about 12 hours. A one way ticket is app 530 SEK. From the bus station in Luleå The easiest is to take a taxi from the train station to the university, housing agency or hotel you are going to the first day in Luleå. By car If you are planning to come to Luleå by car you should take into account that the driving conditions will alter a lot during the winter season with all the snow and ice in the streets. Winter tires (preferably with spikes) are required! When arriving in Luleå look for signs with Universitet, locate the B-building (Centrumhuset) on your campus map; Search for Reception

4 What to do once you have arrived in Luleå Once you have arrived in Luleå you need to go to If you arrive during office hours 1) - your accommodation- the housing agency where you have booked your room/apartment to pick up the keys 2) - the university, International office and register If you do not arrive during office hours a hotel/youth hostel the first night/nights Please, be aware of the opening hours, explained below! On Saturdays and Sundays offices are always closed. If you arrive after opening hours or during the weekend, you will have to stay in a hotel or youth hostel the first night/nights. If you have booked your accommodation at Lulebo and Studentbo you have to go to their office and collect your keys.
