5 SECTION 1 GENERAL 1 Introduction 1.1 Objective The objective of this class programme (CP) is to describe the type approval (TA) scheme for rotating electrical machines. For a description of the Society's type approval scheme in general and further information on general conditions and procedures for obtaining the Society's TA certificate, see the Society's document DNVGL CP 0338 Type approval scheme. The procedures and requirements described in this CP are applicable for obtaining Society TA certificate based on requirements in: DNV GL Rules for Classification Ships RU SHIP Pt.4 Ch.8 Electrical installations the Society's document OS D201 Electrical installations the Society's document CG 0339 Environmental test specification for electrical, electronic and programmable equipment and systems. Section 1 Guidance note: This class programme is not applicable for obtaining EU Marine Equipment Directive (MED) certificates. Visit for information on MED certification. ---e-n-d---of---g-u-i-d-a-n-c-e---n-o-t-e Scope This CP gives a description of the procedures and requirements related to documentation, design and type testing applicable for TA of. This CP does not set the design requirements to the. TA is based on compliance with design requirements given in the rules and/or other regulations and standards. The CP describes the applicable design requirements and how to document compliance with the requirements in order to obtain a TA certificate for the equipment. This includes, where relevant, technical requirements for how the type tests shall be performed. 1.3 Application TA of equipment in accordance with this CP is not mandatory, but may be used as an alternative to case by case design approvals for machines < 300 kw to be installed on vessels classed with the Society. A TA certificate in accordance with this CP will confirm compliance with the requirements in the rules as specified in [1.1]. The TA certificate will not confirm compliance with requirements in other parts of the rules. In case additional requirements in other parts of the rules shall be covered by the TA certificate, this shall be specified in the application for TA and will be stated in the TA certificate. 2 Documentation For TA of the following documentation shall be submitted: 1) main drawings for assembled machines relevant details. 2) references to design standards, rules, specifications etc. 3) test results (from tests already carried out, if any). 4) applicant's proposal to type test and routine test. 5) documentation of reliability and endurance on board ships and mobile offshore units, if any. 6 6) special operational limitations: The approval of rotor shafts is mandatory for propulsion motors. In order to include the rotor shaft into the type approval, the following documentation shall be submitted: NDT procedure including acceptance criteria (UT + MPI) for shaft and welds details of the weld and welding procedure for the rotor. 7) field of application. 8) list of type designations for each variant. 9) construction details: voltage power speed. temp. class insulation class enclosure (IP) class explosion protection + certificate from recognised test laboratory special properties, if any. 10) test programme, which as a minimum includes the elements for type testing, See Sec.3. 7 SECTION 2 PRODUCT REQUIREMENTS The shall comply with the relevant requirements of the following publications in its latest edition including amendments: 1 Design requirements DNV GL rules for classification - ShipsRU SHIP Pt.4 Ch.8 DNV GL rules for classification - High speed and light craft the Society's offshore standard DNVGL OS D201 as governed by applicable standards IEC : Part 301 Equipment-generators and motors the Society's document CG 0339 Environmental test specification for electrical, electronic and programmable equipment and systems IEC series, Section 2 2 Test requirements The testing is divided into: visual inspection electrical/mechanical tests environmental tests. 2.1 Visual inspection By visual inspection, it shall be verified that the test sample is in conformity with the approved plans. 2.2 Electrical/mechanical tests The tests shall be according to the relevant parts of the tables given in Sec Environmental tests Tests related to endurance and reliability of the product on board ships, should take account of the environmental strains on board vessels. In case of insufficient experience from service on board ships (or equivalent), the following tests may be required as type tests: salt mist test according to the Society's document DNVGL CG Voltage regulator The voltage regulator used for the testing shall be included in the type approval certificate and tested according to Sec.3 Table 2, items 9 and 11.
