2 The most extensive range of CE marked fire dampers available in Europe CE marked fire dampers will be central on our stand at Mostra Convegno Rf- Technologies has received notification of conformity to the European Construction Products Directive for its complete range of European tested fire dampers and fire damper cartridges. This allowed the company to start applying the CE marking on these products as early as February The CE (Conformité Européenne) marking is a "passport" recognized by all the 27 Member States of the European Union, enabling a product to be placed on the market in any Member State. CE Marking indicates that a product complies with a European technical standard called a harmonised European Norm (EN). These standards have been established to remove technical barriers to trade for construction products. They are the new reference for national standards. Once a manufacturer has demonstrated that its product complies with the requirements of the relevant norm, he can affix the CE marking to the product. CE marking includes technical information in the form of declared values. Together with the standard, it gives all the information needed by regulators and actors on the construction market to judge whether the product is suitable for a particular intended use in the country in which it is sold, according to the regulations that apply there. The Construction Products Directive and the more recent Construction Products Regulation set the foundation for CE marking for construction products. Under the Directive, uniform assessment methods of the performance of fire dampers have been compiled in the EN 15650:2010 product standard. Fire dampers are evaluated against criteria that relate to fire resistance, durability and aeraulic performance. A period of coexistence of one year has begun on 1 September 2011, during which manufacturers of fire dampers are free to apply CE marking or continue to use the old national standards without CE marking. On 1 September 2012, conflicting national standards must be withdrawn and only CE marked fire dampers may be placed on the European market. Their role is to restore the fire resistance grade of the penetrated wall, thus preventing the spread of fire through those ducts by stopping flames, smoke and hot gases in case of fire. 3 Sealing off fire dampers with coated mineral wool: Rf-Technologies offers a certified solution In its efforts to simplify the fire-safe installation of its fire dampers, Rf- Technologies is the first European manufacturer to offer a proven solution to seal off fire dampers with fire resistant coated mineral wool; the configuration has been tested and will be classified according to the European standards. Installation contractors are looking for ways to simplify and accelerate the sealing of wall openings in compartmentation walls. The use of mineral fibre boards that are pre-coated with a fire resistant layer on one or both sides guarantees a fast and easy sealing of the opening. For the first time, a fire damper has been successfully tested with such a sealing in compliance with the current European standards. The fire damper is installed in an opening in a light partition wall or a concrete wall. It is connected to the ventilation ducts. The coated sealing material is then applied back and front in the opening around the damper and guarantees a fire resistance up to 90 minutes. An additional benefit of this method is that the opening around the fire damper can be larger: up to 300 mm around the damper. Therefore, it offers an ideal solution for construction sites where the openings are too large for a standard sealing with mortar or for a dry mounting. We are happy to showcase a certified solution for a fire-safe sealing with coated mineral wool, said Rf-Technologies Managing Director Bernard Santens. This brings an answer to market demands in several European countries where this sealing method is widespread. The sealing with coated mineral wool has been tested with the CU2 and CR2 fire dampers. 4 Certified air transfer grills provide natural ventilation through fire resistant walls and doors Rf-Technologies is showcasing its range of fire resistant grills at Mostra Convegno The company offers a wide range of fire resistant grills that meet the strictest European standards regarding the penetration of fire resistant walls, floors, ceilings, and doors. The fire resistant transfer grills are mounted in the walls or the doors to prevent flame and heat propagation in the event of a fire. The functioning of a fire resistant transfer grill is based on the dilatation properties of the intumescent materials in the profiles. When the room temperature reaches 100 C, the material expands to attain several times its original thickness. The slats then melt together to constitute a non-combustible mass that procures a fire resistance similar to that of the penetrated construction. This way, it impedes the passage of the flames and heat. The range of Rf-Technologies transfer grills fully complies with the strict European standards set by the Directive on Construction Products. They have been tested according to the EN , and standards; they hold fire resistance classification reports according to EN up to EI90/EW90 in standard walls, floors and wooden fire door panels, depending on the model. The wide range of dimensions goes from 100x100 mm till 1200x800 mm (width x height). The grills are extremely easy to install in all kinds of walls, using standard construction materials such as sealing glue or mortar. They guarantee superior natural ventilation through the streamlined shape of their slats. The Gz60 grill is an aesthetically finished non-vision model approved for mounting into any type of wall, including fire resistant wooden door panels. In order to satisfy architectural preferences, the grill is available in three standard RAL colours. A fixed or variable finishing frame ensures a perfect result for the opening in the wall. This grill offers a harmonious architectural solution for the natural ventilation of hospitals or office buildings. The Ge grill is available in various degrees of fire-resistance (60 or 90 minutes). The Ge60-XL model also disposes of a reinforced frame in HDF, which ensures its rigidity, even for the largest dimensions.
