Join your fellow travelers for a welcome dinner at a local restaurant. (D) Day 3: Saturday, September 20, 2014 Paris Today s tour of Paris highlights life in the city during the German occupation and through the Liberation. View symbolic sights such as the Opera, the Ministry of Navy at the Place de la Concorde and the grand Hotel Meurice, residence of Dietrich von Choltitz, the German military governor of the city. Visit the small commemoration garden close to the Bir Hakeim Bridge. Here on July 16, 1942 over 11,000 Jews were arrested and confined to Velodrome d Hiver before deportation during what became known as the Vel d'hiv roundup. (B) Day 4: Sunday, September 21, 2014 Paris Today you have a chance to explore Paris, truly one of the world s great cities, at your leisure. Perhaps you will take an optional tour to visit the magnificent Versailles Palace, the chateau of Louis XIV. Tonight, enjoy dinner with a view on the first floor of the Eiffel Tower. (B, D) Day 5: Monday, September 22, 2014 Paris - La Roche-Guyon - Caen - Bayeux Set off for the Normandy coast. During WW II, the largest invasion in history took place on these hallowed beaches. Visit the imposing La Roche-Guyon Castle, former headquarters of Field Marshall Erwin Rommel, the man responsible for Germany s imposing Atlantic Wall. Enjoy an insightful visit to the Memorial Peace Museum, built to commemorate those who gave their lives in the epic Battle of Normandy in Later, stop off at a local cider

4 farm to experience a little of the local culture and sample Normandy s drink of choice. (B, D) Day 6: Tuesday, September 23, 2014 Bayeux - Landing Beaches Join a local expert on a tour of the Landing Beaches. Stop at the strategically vital Pegasus Bridge, captured by the heroic British 6th Airborne Division in the opening hours of the invasion. Then, make moving visits to Sword, Juno and Gold beaches to view the remains of a Mulberry Harbour, the ingenious portable harbor developed by British engineers. Continue to the still-intact Longues-sur-Mer, location of the former German Artillery battery set between Omaha and Gold beaches. (B) Day 7: Wednesday, September 24, 2014 Landing Beaches As you continue exploring the landing beaches, pause and reflect on the struggles and heroism that took place so many years ago. Depart to visit Utah, westernmost of the Allied landing beaches. Then head to the town of St. Mere Eglise made famous by paratrooper John Steel and the film The Longest Day. Visit the parachute-shaped Airborne Museum which honors the paratroopers sacrifices. Afterwards, stop at the Pointe Du Hoc Ranger Memorial to see where the valiant men of the 2nd Ranger Battalion put the success of what General Eisenhower called the Great Crusade above all else and scaled 100-foot cliffs on D-Day morning to seize the fortified enemy position and take control of the landing approaches to Omaha and Utah. Later, visit Omaha Beach, Omaha Memorial Museum and the U.S. Military Cemetery. (B) Day 8: Thursday, September 25, 2014 Bayeux - Le Mont St. Michel - St. Malo This morning you travel further back in history during a visit to the Bayeux Tapestry, a 230-foot embroidered cloth depicting the events leading up to the Norman conquest of England. Continue to Le Mont St. Michel, a place of worship that rests on the border between Normandy and Brittany. Explore one of the most beautiful abbeys in France which dates back to the 11th century. 5 Day 9: Friday, September 26, 2014 St. Malo - Chartres - Paris Charles De Gaulle This morning depart for the medieval town of Chartres for a guided visit of its splendid Cathedral, spared during the war by an American officer who questioned the need to destroy it. Savor some free time before returning to Paris Charles de Gaulle for your final overnight. 6 Experience It! Omaha Beach Visit Omaha Beach. Today this hallowed ground is a site for rest, relaxation and remembrance. But 70 years ago, in June 1944, this beach was the center of a war where bombs and bullets laced the sand. The D-Day landings were the largest military operation in history and the beaches of Normandy bore the brunt of the invasion. It was Omaha that witnessed the most vicious fighting of World War II. Early dawn that chilly June morning, almost 7,000 boats hit the beaches and tens of thousands of soldiers from Canada, the USA, the UK and elsewhere began pouring onto the shores. While little physical evidence remains of this battle today, its impact on the lives of so many, and the history of our world, will forever be remembered. The palace and gardens of Versailles reflect the extravagant tastes of King Louis XIV, the "Sun King." On this excursion travel by coach to Versailles, where your local guide will recount the history of the palace and lead you through the various rooms of the State Apartments. Of particular interest are the Queen's bedchamber and the famous Hall of Mirrors. You then have leisure time to explore the incredible gardens, some of the most famous in the world, which took over 40 years to complete. Please note that the motor coach is not permitted to drop off at the entrance to Versailles and the grounds of Versailles are quite large. Walking will be required to fully enjoy this excursion.
