1 Governor and Clerk Training part of EES for Schools Summer Term 2016 Programme for Governing Bodies and Clerks

2 Welcome to the 2016 Summer Term Training Offer for Governors and Clerks I am delighted to welcome you to the summer term training offer for governors and clerks. Research shows that governors need a range of important qualities if they are to be effective; governing boards are key strategic decision makers accountable for ensuring the best possible education for every child. They also play an important role in maintaining a successful and stable workforce and for financial management and efficiency. Safeguarding and wellbeing remains, rightly, at the forefront of governors accountabilities. Governors have a duty to support and protect vulnerable children whilst preparing young people for adult life by building character and resilience and enabling them to access high quality work or study options. Moving to a system where every school is an academy is an integral part of the government s programme of reform. The government s white paper Educational Excellence Everywhere highlights significantly changing expectations of governors making it more important than ever that new governors are properly inducted and that all governors receive the development they need to effectively fulfil their role. Our training is facilitated by a growing team of experienced and knowledgeable tutors with a wealth of governor or clerking experience. As well as new dates and venues for our most popular training courses, materials have been reviewed to reflect current best practice. In response to changes in the educational landscape and the specific needs of our schools, we have also developed additional workshops for the summer term: Joining or Forming a Multi Academy Trust (MAT) Hot Topic Dealing with Parental Concerns and Complaints Working in a School-led Improvement Partnership Special School Governors Understanding Learning Achievement Essex Clerks Conference Half Day Conference for Special School Governors No school is an island; the move to an increasingly autonomous school-led system is based upon the clear principle that schools are responsible for their own improvement and that schools working together is the most effective way of sharing learning and good practice to secure rapid and sustained improvement. There are now over 20 formal partnerships in Essex is your governing body part of one? If you would like to request a local workshop for your group of schools please contact enquiries.governorservices@eesforschools.org to arrange. Please note we need at least 10 governors to make a workshop viable. All our courses can be booked online via the EES for Schools Training website EEScpdportal.org If you choose not to subscribe, governing bodies and clerks are welcome to choose the pay-as-you-go option. With thanks for all you do for your school. I look forward to meeting you at one of our training events. Debbi Botham Governor Services Manager EES for Schools 2 Governor and Clerk Training
