1 How to disable Java in Firefox 1. Open Firefox, click the Firefox button (Figure 1) and select Addons. (In Linux, OS X and Windows XP, click the Tools icon and select Add-ons). 2. 2 How to disable Java in Safari 1. Open Safari, select the Safari menu and choose Preferences. 2. Click the Security tab and uncheck the Enable Java box (Figure 3). How to disable Java in Internet Explorer These steps were derived from advice given in CERT's vulnerability note on CVE Open Internet Explorer. 2. Type ALT+T to activate the Tools menu and choose Manage Plugins. Choose All items from the Show dropdown menu. Disable Java Plug-in --version number--" (Figure 5). It is safe to simply disable all of the items that begin with Java, but be sure to get this one. Close Internet Explorer. Figure 5 3. Hit the WINDOWS button + R and type regedit (approve UAC prompt if necessary). Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Java Plugin\{version}\UseJava2IExplorer and change (Default) to 0 (Figure 6). (Note: 64-bit Windows users will need to change HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\JavaSoft\Java Plug-in\{version}\UseJava2IExplorer to 0).

Click File -> Save As... and call it DisableJava.reg. Put this file on your Desktop. 6. Double-click the file on your Desktop and approve any UAC prompts. At this point, Java should be disabled.
